  • Patent number: 8349616
Abstract: A method for assaying a sample for each of multiple analysis is described. The method includes contacting an array of spaced-apart test zones with a liquid sample (e.g., whole blood). The test zones are disposed within a channel of a microfluidic device. The channel is defined by at least one flexible wall and a second wall which may or may not be flexible. Each test zone includes a probe compound specific for a respective target analyte. The microfluidic device is compressed to reduce the thickness of the channel, which is the distance between the inner surfaces of the walls within the channel. The presence of each analyte is determined by optically detecting an interaction at each of multiple zones for which the distance between the inner surfaces at the corresponding location is reduced. The interaction at each test zone is indicative of the presence in the sample of a target analyte.

  • Publication number: 20120264427
Abstract: Embodiments are directed towards SMS-initiated mobile registration. A mobile device sends an SMS message to a mobile registration device. In response, the mobile registration device generates a random identifier and associates it with the mobile device identifier of the mobile device. Then, the mobile registration device sends a response SMS message to the mobile device, the response SMS message containing a Uniform Resource Identifier (URI) to a mobile registration web page, where the URI contains the generated random identifier. The mobile device uses the URI to navigate to the mobile registration web page, where additional registration information is provided. The mobile registration device associates the additional registration information with the mobile device based on the generated random identifier included in the URI, and creates a user account based on the mobile number from which the SMS message was received and the additional registration information.

  • Publication number: 20120190005
Abstract: Biopharmaceutical process development with recombinant protein producing mammalian cells has realized a tremendous increase in both productivity and product yields in the past years. These achievements can be mainly attributed to the advancements in cell line development, media, and process optimization. Only recently, genome-scale technologies enable a system-level analysis to elucidate the complex biomolecular basis of protein production in mammalian cells promising an increased process understanding and the deduction of knowledge-based approaches for further process optimization. The present invention describes a method for a rational cell culturing process using such a knowledge-based approach.

  • Patent number: 7888074
Abstract: The aim of the invention is to provide a device for duplicating and characterizing nucleic acids almost simultaneously and with a high sample throughput rate. The device consists of a chamber body with a recess whose edge sealingly holds an optically transparent chip. Said chip holds nucleic acids in individual spots on a detection surface. The chamber body is placed on an optically transparent chamber support with a bearing surface, in such a way that a capillary gap, which can be filled with a liquid sample, is formed between the detection surface of the chip facing towards the chamber support and said chamber support. The chamber body is provided with an inlet and an outlet, which are spatially separate from each other, and has a space, which laterally encompasses the chip and which has a gas reservoir. The chamber support is provided with heating elements.
