  • Publication number: 20100040907
Abstract: It is an object to provide a magnetic disk substrate highly reliable to prevent the occurrence of crash failure even if a magnetic disk is rotated at high speed, and suitable for a hard disk that starts and stops by the load/unload method, and a magnetic disk using such a substrate. The representative structure of a magnetic disk substrate according to this invention is a disk-shaped glass substrate 10 having a generally flat main surface 11, an end face 12, a chamfered face 13 formed between the main surface 11 and the end face 12, and an offset portion, at the periphery of the main surface 11, raised or lowered with respect to a flat surface, other than the periphery, of the main surface 11, and characterized in that the magnitude of the offset portion is approximately uniform over the entire circumference of the glass substrate 10.

  • Publication number: 20090158775
Abstract: When mirror polishing is performed on a glass substrate by bringing a polishing pad into contact with the surface of the glass substrate while supplying a polishing liquid containing polishing grains to the substrate surface, the pH of the polishing liquid is maintained within a certain range or the agglomeration degree or dispersion degree of the polishing liquid is controlled. Consequently, an adequate mirror polishing rate can be maintained and there can be obtained a glass substrate having a good end shape.

  • Patent number: 6387425
Abstract: A method for producing low potassium juice with improved taste. The process includes the steps of treating potassium-containing juice with a cation exchange resin to remove 90% or more of the potassium content in the juice and adding a calcium compound which is calcium carbonate in the form of solid. The juice produced has improved taste and nutritional balance. It is also good for patients suffering from kidney failure.

  • Patent number: 6248362
Abstract: A process for delivering the orally administered active ingredients which are safe even in their successive administrations for a long period to the large intestine without elution of the ingredients before reaching the large intestine is disclosed. The process according to the present invention comprises a step of administering orally to animals including human a composite comprising a core containing the active ingredients, an internal layer comprising chitosan with which the core is coated, and an external layer comprising a gastric acid resistant material with which the internal layer is coated, wherein all of the materials in the composite have the empirically established safety to humans. When a material having an iron cation scavenging ability, particularly phytin is used as the active ingredient, it is possible to treat colon cancer efficiently by the process according to the present invention.

  • Patent number: 5267315
Abstract: The present invention relates to a secret identification number checking system for comparing a secret identification number stored in a magnetic card (11) and a secret identification number entered by the bearer of the magnetic card. Data to enable the comparison is stored in a card medium (13), and the card medium (13) and a transaction machine (17) mutually authenticate each other. When if both the card medium (13) and the transaction machine (17) are legitimate, the card medium (13) sends the data to the transaction machine (17) to permit the secret identification number stored in the magnetic card (11) to be compared with the secret identification number entered by the bearer of the magnetic card. The secret identification number checking system thus improves the security of transactions.

  • Patent number: 5070233
Abstract: An IC card reader/writer has frequency mode identifying means for determining whether or not an IC card loaded thereon has an identifiable frequency. When the frequency mode of the IC card is identifiable, clock frequency determining means reads frequency data representative of an operating clock frequency out of the IC card to determine an operating clock frequency particular to the card. Based on the determined operating clock frequency of the IC card, frequency setting means converts reference clock pulses being generated by reference clock generating means into clock pulses which match the clock frequency of the IC card, and feeds those clock pulses to the card. The reader/writer is capable of producing clock pulses the frequency of which is variable in matching relation to the frequency of operating clock pulses of an IC card.
