Abstract: A method and apparatus for multiple radio access technology (multi-RAT) access mode operation for a wireless transmit/receive unit (WTRU) are disclosed. A WTRU and a network may enable a multi-RAT access mode of operation based on at least one of WTRU subscription, a service agreement of the WTRU, a roaming status of the WTRU, a selected access point name (APN), an Internet protocol (IP) flow class, a subscriber profile identity for the WTRU, requested quality of service, or a proximity indication indicating proximity to a cell supporting multi-RAT access mode. The WTRU may send a capability indication of support of multi-RAT access to a network, wherein the multi-RAT access mode is enabled based on the capability indication. A partial handover of bearers may be performed. In performing the handover, the target cell is determined based on a priority rule.

  • Patent number: 11350263
Abstract: Techniques may be used for restricted direct discovery in proximity services (ProSe). A ProSe function may receive from a discovery wireless transmit/receive unit (WTRU) a restricted ProSe Application identity (ID) of an application located at the discoverer WTRU requesting ProSe discovery. The ProSe function may derive a first and second ProSe codes for the discoveree WTRU and discoverer WTRU, and provide the ProSe codes to the discoverer and/or discoveree WTRUs. A ProSe application server may receive a revocation message from an announcing WTRU indicating a revoked WTRU. The ProSe application server may provide a ProSe discovery WTRU ID for the revoked WTRU to a ProSe Function. The ProSe function may instruct the announcing WTRU to stop announcing a ProSe code known by the revoked WTRU, and may provide a new ProSe code to at least one WTRU authorized to discover the announcing WTRU.

  • Patent number: 11350274
Abstract: Embodiments include methods and apparatuses for providing access to a network slice in a communication system. In an embodiment, a network server that implements a Control Plane (CP) Network Function (NF) may receive a Non-Access Stratum (NAS) message from a wireless transmit and receive unit (WTRU). The NAS message comprises a Mobility Management (MM) message for registration and a Session Management (SM) messages for a specific service provided by the network slice. After selecting the network slice, the network server may transmit the SM message to another CP NF in the network slice to establish a communication link between the WTRU and the network slice.

  • Publication number: 20220167224
Abstract: A method and apparatus are provided for updating a sequence hopping (SH) pattern of an uplink channel during handover from a current cell having a current SH pattern. A method may include receiving, from a base station associated with current cell, a transmission including information indicating a handover command that instructs the WTRU to handover to a target cell. The handover command may include information indicating a SH enablement indication and a SH parameter. The SH enablement indication may indicate that SH is enabled for a physical uplink control channel (PUCCH) transmission. A PUCCH transmission may be sent to a base station associated with the target cell, and the PUCCH transmission may include symbols derived from a sequence that is based on the SH parameter.

  • Publication number: 20220117015
Abstract: A method of supporting VM migration between a first WTRU and a second WTRU via a 5GLAN is disclosed. The first WTRU is a host of a VM and the second WTRU connects to the 5GLAN. The method comprises that the second WTRU receives the VM migrated from the first WTRU, wherein a tenant system interface (TSI) ID is associated with the VM; sends a PDU session request message to a session management function (SMF) of the 5GLAN, the PDU session request message comprising the TSI ID; and sends a PDU session response message from the SMF so as to establish a PDU session between the second WTRU and the 5GLAN.

  • Publication number: 20220061118
Abstract: A method and a system are disclosed for providing session continuity in a 5G system. A wireless transmit receive unit (WTRU) may receive, from a session management function (SMF), a first Non-Access Stratum (NAS) message indicating a Packet Data Unit (PDU) session re-establishment. Upon receiving the first NAS message, the WTRU may determine an old PDU session ID based on the NAS message and generate a new PDU session ID. The WTRU may transmit a second NAS message indicating a PDU session establishment request. The second NAS message may include the old and new PDU session IDs. Upon receiving the PDU session establishment request, the SMF may determine that the old PDU session ID is associated with an existing PDU session for which the PDU session re-establishment is requested. The SMF may also determine that the new PDU session ID is associated with a new PDU session to be established.

  • Patent number: 11246066
Abstract: A method and apparatus are provided for updating a sequence hopping (SH) pattern of an uplink channel during handover from a current cell having a current SH pattern. At least one downlink channel of each neighbor cell of the current cell is monitored. Information indicative of the monitored downlink channels of the neighbor cells is transmitted to the current cell. Prior to receiving a handover command from the current cell a target cell from among the neighbor cells is anticipated and a common downlink channel of the anticipated target cell is monitored to determine information representative of a target SH pattern of the target cell.

  • Publication number: 20210266254
Abstract: Systems, devices, and methods for addressing one or more approaches to path based forwarding is described. A packet frame format for a suitable layer may be used for the delivery of layer 2 packets across User Plane Functions (UPFs). Forwarding the packet frame format from an originating source wireless transmit receive unit (WTRU) over a first UPF to a second UPF, where the second UPF may then send the packet to a destination WTRU. The forwarding may be achieved by suitably swapping information for link-local layer 2 delivery at traversing UPFs. Further, path computation may be performed for registered layer 2 and above services in layer 2 forwarding. Also, forwarding HTTP/IP-over-ICN use cases for HTTP/IP communication over 5G native L2 bearer may be implemented.

  • Publication number: 20210259043
Abstract: Current wireless networks do not allow machine type communication (MTC) devices to have long discontinuous reception (DRX) cycles or sleep lengths. A long DRX cycle may allow MTC systems and devices to operate with much longer DRX/Sleep cycles/periods. This may facilitate the MTC operations for infrequent system access or infrequent system reaching (e.g. paged once in a week) with no or low mobility and may allow MTC devices to sleep for a long time with low power consumption.

  • Publication number: 20210250854
Abstract: Methodologies, technologies, etc., directed to handling of mutually exclusive network slices are provided herein. Pursuant to the methodologies and technologies a device or network may select a set of network slices that may serve the device simultaneously. The methodologies and technologies may involve using allowed Network Slice Selection Assistance Information (NSSAI), prior to applying exclusion rules and network slice exclusion rules, to enable selection of mutually exclusive network slices to be used by the device after registration. The methodologies and technologies may involve a device applying network slice exclusion rules for entries in the allowed NSSAI based on location and time when establishing a PDU session on a particular single NSSAI and/or involve requesting release of PDU session(s) served by currently accessed network slices when requesting establishment of new PDU session(s) on a network slice that cannot be accessed simultaneously as those currently accessed network slices.

  • Publication number: 20210211510
Abstract: Pinning service function chains to specific points of execution (e.g., service instances) in a network system may be provided. Available service instances may be solicited from service hosts. The service hosts may be exposed under a context identifier (e.g., a slicing identifier or a device identifier). A subset of the available service instances may be selected to serve a client. The client may be identified by a client-specific identifier. The selected service hosts may be instructed to register the selected service instances under a name that ties the client identifier and the service function identifier into a single name. The client may use the single name to initiate a service function chain. Service function instances may initiate a next hop in the named service function chain through using the client identifier derived from an incoming request.
