Abstract: Techniques for providing notifications to a customer shopping at a brick and mortar store are disclosed. The techniques include providing a wireless network in a brick and mortar store, using a customer mobile electronic device to detect network identification data of the wireless network, and using a communications module to determine, from the network identification data, the location of the mobile electronic device within the brick and mortar store. The techniques also include a server selecting, based on the location of the mobile electronic device within the brick and mortar store, a notification which is related to a location within the brick and mortar store and transmitting the notification to the mobile electronic device.

Abstract: A computer-implemented method for providing shopping information for a plurality of contacts of a social network of a user to a computing device corresponding to the user includes receiving a request from the computing device to provide shopping information for one or more contacts of the social network. In one implementation, a method may receive information related to a list of one or more items available for sale at a physical store, wherein the list is associated with a user. Based at least in part on a distance between the user device and at least one item on the list of one or more items, the method may further providing an indication to the user device that the user device is proximate the at least one item on the list of one or more items.

Abstract: System and methods for generating a heat map for a retail location are disclosed. A system includes a user interface of a mobile device associated with a user and a monitoring system. The monitoring system monitors regions of a retail location and determines a plurality of crowd sizes corresponding to each region, each crowd size indicating a number of people present at a specified time. A heat map generation module generates a heat map based on crowd size. A map analysis module determines a shopping route based on a waypoint associated with a product and crowd size. The map analysis module receives a request for the heat map from the mobile computing device. The heat map generation module renders the heat map overlaid with icons and the shopping route. The map analysis module presents the heat map on the user interface.

Abstract: A system and method for automatically presenting a media file on a mobile device based on an analysis of metadata associated with the media file. The system evaluates a media file's metadata to determine whether the media file is relevant to a mobile device user based on time, date, location, subject matter, or other criteria. If the media file is relevant to the user, the system automatically displays the media file on the mobile device. By presenting the media file to a mobile device user, the system reminds the user of fond memories associated with past dates, people, events, or places. In some embodiments, the system may also prompt a user of the mobile device to take an action related to the media file presented on the mobile device, such as prompting the user to place a telephone call to a person pictured in the image.

Abstract: A user can initiate the transmission of data on a mobile device by making physical contact with another device. The physical contact can be any type of physical touch that is referred to as a “tap” or “tapping.” When a tap is detected by a device, the device may initiate near field communication (NFC) with the other tapping device. NFC may be used to communicate data between the two devices, or NFC may be used to exchange sufficient information to allow the devices to establish a communication channel via another communication link. In some embodiments, an NFC-enabled mobile device can be used to gather group data relating to users having mobile devices that are within NFC range of one another and which initiate the aggregation of group data by the tapping of three or more devices.
