  • Publication number: 20010051526
Abstract: The invention relates to a method for locating a mobile station (5) my means of radio signals between the mobile station (5) and the mobile station network (1a, 2a, 3a, 4a) by forming separate location channels in addition to the communication channels. The location channels are, among others, the location access channel and the location receipt channel. The access channel is used to send a burst, which includes the identification of the mobile station (5), such as the International Mobile Subscriber Identification (IMSI). The location channels can be used in the locating methods based on the angle of arrival, time difference and transition time of the radio transmission, for example.

  • Patent number: 6327474
Abstract: The invention relates to a method for locating a mobile station (1) by means of the mobile station (1) and a location service center (LSC) (5) in the mobile network by dynamically distributing the computing between these two. Preferably the mobile station (1) measures impulse responses of received bursts to determine time differences, and preprocesses measurement results. The location service center (5) performs the final processing. According to the invention, dummy bursts are also used in the locating process. The method also includes an automatic locating procedure activated in conjunction with an emergency call.

  • Publication number: 20010009544
Abstract: The invention relates to a packet-switched radio system and to a method of locating a subscriber terminal in a packet-switched radio system. In the method (302) the core network of the radio system transmits a location service request message to the radio network of the radio system; (304) the radio network transmits information to a subscriber terminal in a paging message that the subscriber terminal is requested to initiate the location service; (306) the subscriber terminal that received the paging message transmits a paging response message to the radio network; (308) the radio network transmits the paging response message to the core network; (310) the network part locates the subscriber terminal on the basis of the information included in the paging response message.
