    Abstract: A process is provided for catalytically converting cyclohexanone oxime to epsilon caprolactam. The conversion is characterized by exceptionally high selectivity and reduced rate of catalyst aging, even at single pass conversion above 90 percent. The conversion catalyst is a medium pore size crystalline zeolite exemplified by ZSM-5 which has low acid activity. Recycling unconverted oxime provides excellent ultimate yield of caprolactam.

    Abstract: A polar lubricating fluid comprising aliphatic molecules having hydroxy or ester functional groups. The alcohol lubricant molecules have at least 20 carbon atoms and the ester molecule comprises between 26 and 100 carbon atoms. The oxygenate content of both molecules is at least 0.2 mmoles per gram of lubricant. The alcohol lubricating fluid is produced by a process comprising hydroformylating olefins having at least 20 carbon atoms in the presence of a hydroformylating catalyst and synthesis gas comprising H.sub.2 and CO. The ester lubricating fluid is produced by a subsequent acylation. The reaction is carried out between 150.degree. C. and 300.degree. C.

    Abstract: In the process of converting an aromatic feedstock to an alkyl-substituted mono-nuclear aromatic product by contacting the feedstock with a coke-selectivated ZSM-5 type catalyst at elevated temperature under conversion process coking conditions to produce said alkyl-1-substituted mononuclear aromatic product selectively, the improvement which comprises:regenerating the process coked catalyst in contact with a non-oxidizing atmosphere comprising an effective amount of hydrogen at a temperature of about 800.degree. F. to 1200.degree. F. to restore activity of the catalyst while retaining selectivity. Advantageously, the conversion involves alkylation, disproportionation and/or isomerization to produce at least one lower alkyl or dialkyl benzene product.

    Abstract: This specification discloses a process for the production of oxygenated compounds, more specifically aldehydes and alcohols, by reacting an olefin with hydrogen and carbon monoxide in the presence of, as a ctalyst, an insoluble polymer containing a functional group, which may be an amine, thiol, phosphine, or arsine group, having chemically bonded thereto a metal of Group VIII of the Periodic Table. The metal can be, for example, rhodium, cobalt, or ruthenium. The olefin can contain more than one carbon-to-carbon double bond, may be an open chain or a cyclic olefin, and may be substituted. Further, the olefin may be contained in a refinery stream such as a cracked gasoline. The reaction may be carried out in the presence of a polar solvent.

    Abstract: A method is provided for increasing the catalytic activity of acid zeolite catalysts characterized by a silica to alumina mole ratio of at least 12 and a constraint index within the approximate range of 1 to 12, comprising contacting said zeolite catalysts with water for a sufficient treating time, temperature and water partial pressure to bring about said increased activity. The increase in catalytic activity is within a zone of enhanced activity, said zone is defined as encompassing all those conditions of treating time, temperature and water partial pressure and combinations thereof which yield catalytic activities greater than initial catalyst activity. The zeolite of enhanced activity of the method of the present invention can be utilized in improved acid catalyzed hydrocarbon conversion processes such as cracking, hydrocracking, alkylation, dealkylation, transalkylation, isomerization, dimerization, oligomerization, polymerization, addition, disproportionation, aromatization and hydration.

    Abstract: A process for alkylating aromatic compounds wherein the product aromatics are provided with one or more alkyl groups possessing at least two carbon atoms is disclosed wherein starting aromatic compound(s) and an alkylating atent which is a mixture of hydrogen and/or a hydrogen-containing substance which provides hydrogen under process conditions and a carbon oxide, e.g., a mixture of syngas (hydrogen and carbon monoxide) are reacted at elevated temperature in the presence of an activated catalyst containing metal values selected from the group consisting of iron, cobalt, ruthenium, manganese, rhodium and osmium, and a zeolite having a constraint index of 12 or less, e.g., ZSM-5. The alkylated aromatics can be dealkylated by known and conventional means to provide olefin and the dealkylated aromatics can be recycled to the alkylation zone.
