  • Publication number: 20090246395
Abstract: The present invention provides a coating method and a coating device that can both prevent the occurrence of streaks and nonuniform application. A coating device comprises an approximately cylindrical bar arranged to come into contact with a traveling web, and a feed device that feeds coating solution to the entry side of the web relative to the bar. Spiral grooves inclined at an angle of 20 degrees to 70 degrees (both inclusive) with respect to a plane orthogonal to the central axis of the bar, and smooth portions with which the web comes into contact at a percentage of 20% or more are formed on the surface of the bar.

  • Publication number: 20090151626
Abstract: A coating apparatus is provided which does not form lines having a constant pitch in applying a coating solution to a web (16) or a sheet medium by using a coating rod (12A, 12B, 12C) or a coating roller (12) even at a high speed. The present invention relates to a coating apparatus for applying a coating solution to a continuously running support medium via a coating rod (12C). A coating rod (12C) is a cylindrical body having an outer surface in which convex sections having a width P1 and concave sections having a width P2 are alternately formed in an axial direction of the surface, so that a series of convex and concave sections having a constant pitch P=P1+P2 are formed. Each of the convex sections includes a flat part having a maximum height roughness (Rz) of 3 ?m or less, and the flat part has a width P3 of 0.55 P or more.

  • Patent number: 7470327
Abstract: A peripheral surface of a coating rod has an area where grooves (convex portions) are formed. This area is ground by a grinding apparatus by which a maximum height Ry of the rod surface is adjusted to 15 ?m or less. Further, a ratio of D/W is adjusted to 0.01 or more, wherein D is a total distance of the convex portions of the rod actually abutting on a web in an axial direction of the rod, and W is a coating width of the web. Furthermore, straightness of the rod is adjusted to 30 ?m or less per 1 m, and roundness of the rod is adjusted to 10 ?m or less. Micro-projections are removed by grinding so that scratches of a coating surface are prevented from occurring. Coating unevenness is prevented by improving the straightness and the roundness.

  • Publication number: 20080000418
Abstract: According to the coating device and method of the invention, coating is performed while the coating liquid is sprayed from the coating liquid supply passage toward the lower surface of the web in a form of a curtain to form a fluid wall of the coating liquid between an exit of the coating liquid supply passage and the lower surface of the web, so that entrained air running with the web can be blocked by the fluid wall. The fluid wall can block entrained air, and therefore, allow stable coating without any defect such as a film cut in a coating film even when the web is run at speed high enough to form a film of entrained air on a web surface and coated.

  • Patent number: 7267722
Abstract: A coating apparatus for a traveling web comprising two coating heads and a traveling path changing roller is disclosed. A bar coater is arranged close to a pass roller. The bar coater is fixed at such a position as to contact the web when the pass roller is moved down. An extrusion coater is arranged below a backup roller in such a manner as to move up and down. If the pass roller moves up and bends up the traveling path of the web, the web separates from the bar coater. Then, if the extrusion coater moves up, the web is coated with the coating solution by the extrusion coater. If the pass roller and the extrusion coater move down, the web is coated with the coating solution by the bar coater.

  • Patent number: 6120853
Abstract: A slide bead coating method and apparatus which is able to form a stable bead over the width of coating solutions and regularly coat the coating solutions on a web to an edge region and which is able to change the width of the coating solutions without stopping the coating operation even if the width of the web changes.A discharged liquid from a nozzle is applied on both side edges of the coating solutions flowing down a slide surface. Thereby, the stable bead can be formed at the side edges of the coating solutions, so that the coating solutions can be coated on the web to the edge region. Edge bead is formed at both side edges of the coating solutions through the nozzle, so that the width of the coating solutions can be adjusted.
