  • Patent number: 6068700
Abstract: A coating apparatus for a traveling web comprising two coating heads and a traveling path changing roller is disclosed. A bar coater is arranged close to a pass roller. The bar coater is fixed at such a position as to contact the web when the pass roller is moved down. An extrusion coater is arranged below a backup roller in such a manner as to move up and down. If the pass roller moves up and bends up the traveling path of the web, the web separates from the bar coater. Then, if the extrusion coater moves up, the web is coated with the coating solution by the extrusion coater. If the pass roller and the extrusion coater move down, the web is coated with the coating solution by the bar coater.

  • Patent number: 6013327
Abstract: A slide bead coating method and apparatus which is able to form a stable bead over the width of coating solutions and regularly coat the coating solutions on a web to an edge region and which is able to change the width of the coating solutions without stopping the coating operation even if the width of the web changes. A discharged liquid from a nozzle is applied on both side edges of the coating solutions flowing down a slide surface. Thereby, the stable bead can be formed at the side edges of the coating solutions, so that the coating solutions can be coated on the web to the edge region. Edge bead is formed at both side edges of the coating solutions through the nozzle, so that the width of the coating solutions can be adjusted.

  • Patent number: 5747216
Abstract: A presensitized plate which comprises a roughened and anodized aluminum plate having provided thereon a positive working light-sensitive composition layer which comprises a dye and can be made soluble in a developer upon exposure to light, wherein the dye concentration in the portion of the light-sensitive layer adjacent to or near the substrate is lower than that in the other portions of the light-sensitive layer. The presensitized plate according to the present invention has less color staining than PS plates of the prior art do and thus has excellent examining properties for plate-quality. The presensitized plate also has remarkable advantages of less stains around image-deleted areas during printing and high printing durability.

  • Patent number: 5508064
Abstract: A method for matting a recording medium comprises supplying a humidifying gas stream onto the outer periphery of an atomized stream of fine droplets of an aqueous solution containing a matting agent by atomizing device along the atomized stream for affixing the fine droplets on the recording material, drying the liquid material in a drying chamber for forming micro-projections of the matting agent. Convex-shaped micro-projections of the matting agent, strongly affixed on the recording medium, are formed without contaminating the working environment.

  • Patent number: 5250383
Abstract: A process for forming a multilayer coating. The process enables coating of multiple layers by a continuous process in which mixing and diffusion between the layers is prevented. The process is particularly useful for producing, e.g., electrophotographic photoreceptors or photosensitive printing plate precursors comprising two or more coating layers.

  • Patent number: 5083527
Abstract: A coating apparatus and a coating rod for use in a coating apparatus with which a very thin film coating can be formed with neither stripes nor repelling of the coating liquid and with an apparatus of reduced overall size. The coating rod is formed from a cylindrical base member, made of a material such as stainless steel, iron or brass, having a smooth surface with no wire wound thereon. In accordance with the invention, the surface of the rod is subjected to a nitrifying process.

  • Patent number: 4933215
Abstract: A coating method and apparatus in which a freely falling film of a coating solution is applied to a web moving along a continuously rotating backing roll. The film width is wider than that of the web. The coating solution is removed from the backing roll by a cleansing device such as one that applies a solvent to the backing roll and then suctions the solvent and coating solution from the backing roll.
