  • Patent number: 5283573
Abstract: This invention relates to a method an apparatus for measuring traffic flows or in other words, the flows of vehicles, inside and near a crossing, and is directed to provide method and apparatus capable of extracting vehicles with a high level of accuracy.Overlap of vehicles can be avoided by setting the field of a camera not to a range from the inflow portion to the vicinity of center of the crossing, but to a range from the center to the vicinity of the outflow portion (151) of the crossing. Accordingly, accuracy of traffic flow measurement can be improved.

  • Patent number: 5197129
Abstract: An input/output device has a processor which processes data strings received by the device. When a data string is received, it is passed to a serial interface and a timing means. The serial interface generates a signal which interrupts the existing processing by the processor and causes the process to start processing of the newly received data string. At the same time the timing means measures the length of the data string and compares it with a predetermined length set by user-controllable data setting means. If the data string length reaches the predetermined length, the processor is triggered to stop processing the new data string and to recommence the processing it was performing prior to interruption. The unprocessed part of the new data string is stored in a memory. In this way, urgent data strings, which are generally short, are processed rapidly and longer data strings are processed after the urgent data strings.

  • Patent number: 4625536
Abstract: A set-up method for unequal speed circumferential rolling. The setting values of the circumferential speeds of a higher speed roll and a lower speed roll and the roll position are obtained by using, as rolling parameters in a rolling schedule, the inlet and outlet thicknesses, the forward and backward tensions, the radii of the rolls, the frictional coefficients and the ratio of the circumferential speeds of the rolls. The setting values are computed such that these values meet the rolling conditions within both the load limit value and the tension limit value.

  • Patent number: 4379395
Abstract: An improved system and method for controlling the interstand tension in a tandem rolling mill by computing the interstand tension on the basis of detected process data, computing the difference or error between the computed interstand tension and the desired value, and controlling the speed of the rolling stand drive motors so as to cancel the error. A shear is generally disposed upstream of the tandem rolling mill to shear the leading and trailing ends of a workpiece. When the shear is cutting the trailing end of the workpiece, a backward tension is produced between the shear and the first rolling stand of the tandem rolling mill, resulting in abrupt variations of the process data used for the computation of the interstand tension. The system operation will become unstable when such abruptly varying process data are used to compute the interstand tension for the purpose of the motor speed control.

  • Patent number: 4373364
Abstract: A temperature controlling method for heating, with a heating furnace having at least one heating zone provided with a controllable heating means, materials charged into the heating furnace such that an aimed temperature of the material is reached by the time when the materials leave the heating furnace. The characteristic feature of the invention resides in that the instructions for changing the operating condition of the heating furnace in response to a change in the rolling condition of the rolling line connected to the heating furnace is treated as a change in the period of stay of the material in the heating furnace. In the controlling system in accordance with the invention, determination of the material temperature rise pattern in response to the change in the staying period of the material in the furnace is made to minimize the supply of fuel to the heating means, and the set temperature of each heating zone is calculated from the thus determined temperature rise pattern.

  • Patent number: 4240147
Abstract: The present invention provides a method and a system for controlling strip thickness in rolling mill, especially adapted in the case where material is rolled by a tandem rolling mill. According to the present invention, the change in the strip thickness from one sampling epoch to another is calculated on the basis of two sampling values, i.e. strip thickness and strip thickness deviation, at the entrance side of a mill stand; the press-down speed and the workpiece tension are determined according to such a condition as to minimize the calculated change during the sampling period; and the press-down speed and the interstand tension are regulated by the thus determined mill speed and tension when a certain portion of the strip reaches the stand bite of the next mill stand.

  • Patent number: 4030326
Abstract: Gage control apparatus and methods for tandem rolling mills are disclosed which are based on the low of constancy of mass flow. The apparatus and methods are attained by the discovery of the fact that the forward slip ratio of a mill stand varies as a linear function of the reduction ratio particularly when a plate material is rolled under relatively low tension. A ratio between thicknesses of the plate at the output and input sides of a particular stand of the tandem rolling mill and a ratio between circumferential speeds of rolls of the adjacent stands are used to calculate a thickness of the plate at the ouput or input side of each of the stands other than the particular stand. Each of the stands other than the particular stand is adjusted in its roll gap in accordance with a deviation of the calculated thickness from a desired thickness so as to cancel the deviation.
