  • Publication number: 20240040553
Abstract: Speed and service aware frequency band selection processes for mobility networks are described. In one embodiment, a system can comprising a processor and a memory that stores executable instructions that, when executed by the processor, facilitate performance of operations. The operations comprise selecting a frequency band for performance of data communication between a communication device (CD) and network equipment of a communication network based on a speed of the CD, and instructing the CD to employ the frequency band for the data communication based on the selecting. In various embodiments, the selecting is responsive to the speed exceeding a threshold speed indicating the CD moving a high speed and the selected frequency band comprises a low frequency band tailored for data communication at the high speed. The frequency band selection can also account for other contextual criteria associated with the CD, including services/applications used, location, and route/trajectory of the device.

  • Publication number: 20240007912
Abstract: The disclosed technology is directed towards switching the primary cell in a carrier aggregation scenario to improve performance. Measurement data of a mobile device (user equipment) is evaluated with respect to one or more various criteria such as cell carrier bandwidth, cell carrier load, cell-related capability and other carrier data (e.g., dynamic spectrum sharing versus clean, time division duplex or frequency division duplex), and others. Device conditions such as overheating can be considered as well. The evaluation results in a ranking of primary cell candidates. If a more optimal primary cell (candidate) is available, the primary cell in the carrier aggregation combination is switched to the candidate that is ranked the highest. Switching can be relatively very fast, such as based on already existing layer-1 (L1) and/or layer-2 (L2) measurement data. Layer-3 (L3) measurement data also can be obtained on demand, for example, to use in the evaluation.

  • Publication number: 20230422110
Abstract: Aspects of the subject matter described herein are directed towards indicating to a communications network the bandwidth capability data of a user equipment (mobile) device. This allows distinguishing between legacy user equipment that does not support larger bandwidths from newer user equipment that does. A network can thus limit the bandwidth via one of its supported bandwidth parts to a user equipment's bandwidth capability data, such as the maximum supported static bandwidth part of the legacy user equipment. At the same time, larger bandwidths can be assigned to user equipment devices capable of supporting larger bandwidths. Information elements can be used to communicate the bandwidth data from the user equipment to the network, e.g., during initial communications or as requested by the network. Once obtained, the bandwidth data of a user equipment device can be maintained by the network and forwarded to a target cells as part of cell handovers.

  • Publication number: 20230388912
Abstract: The disclosed technology is directed towards prioritizing selection of a new radio primary secondary cell (PSCell) for use by user equipment in non-standalone scenarios. User equipment (a mobile device) obtains measurement reports for available new radio frequency bands. The mobile device can prioritize the reporting of the measurement data so as to indicate to the network which candidate PSCell that the user equipment prefers to have selected. The network can bias selection of one candidate PSCell over others by providing different time-to-trigger periods for different available frequency bands. A mobile device can prioritize PSCell selection based on current conditions, such as based on application program needs, so as to use a PSCell with bandwidth that is appropriate for a current application program in use. The mobile device and network can collaborate to select a PSCell based on other conditions such as remaining battery capacity of the device and/or thermal conditions.

  • Publication number: 20230388899
Abstract: The disclosed technology is directed towards disabling mobile device communications when such communications can possibly interfere with aircraft equipment. Examples include disabling the C-Band communications of devices when proximate an aircraft and/or airport. A signal beacon can be sent to devices, and as one example, devices capable of C-Band communications can be configured to automatically disable this frequency band. Devices that cannot react to this signal can disable frequency band(s)/switch to airplane mode in other ways, including based on received notifications, or based on sensed condition data. For example, motion detection, possibly combined with location data and/or elevation data, can determine whether a device is aboard an aircraft that is taxiing, preparing for takeoff, taking off, preparing for landing or landing. Elevation data can detect when a device is below some defined ceiling elevation, to take action with respect to disabling one or more predetermined frequency bands.

  • Publication number: 20230308948
Abstract: Switching a device between bandwidth parts of a channel bandwidth can be managed. A bandwidth part (BWP) management component (BWPMC) can determine characteristics relating to communication rate, quality of service (QoS), or device power based on analysis of data relating to operation of the device, including data relating to service type of a service used by the device or traffic type of data communicated by the device. If heavy traffic is detected, BWPMC can determine whether switching from a smaller BWP to a larger BWP can improve communication rate or QoS. If so, BWPMC can initiate a switching timer. If heavy traffic is still detected when timer has ended, BWPMC can switch from smaller BWP to larger BWP, set another timer, and check again when that timer ends. BWPMC can bypass BWP switching for the device when power saving mode is on or low battery power is detected.
