  • Patent number: 11575780
Abstract: An indicator (e.g., “5G+” or “5G”) displayed on a mobile device is based on whether the mobile device is connected in or (if idle) has the potential of connecting in a high channel bandwidth frequency band (e.g., n77 or mmWave). An accurate indication is displayed when the mobile device is connected, or when idle and the aggregated bandwidth is not directly known, such as when anchored to a lower bandwidth cell. When in idle mode, the mobile device can maintain cell identifiers (“fingerprints”) and determine a location estimated to be within a high bandwidth cell, to thereby determine potential high bandwidth operation (e.g., and display 5G+) when connected. When in the idle mode, the mobile device can evaluate neighbor cells including if within a high channel bandwidth cell's coverage to decide whether to select “5G+” or “5G” for display to indicate the potential high bandwidth operation (or not) when connected.

  • Publication number: 20230021592
Abstract: The disclosed technology is directed towards avoiding a misconfiguration that uses a Long Term Evolution (LTE) and new radio dynamic spectrum sharing (DSS) carrier as an LTE carrier and new radio primary secondary cell carrier concurrently for a dual connectivity mobile device. Network equipment can detect the misconfiguration and prevent its usage, or if already configured, deconfigure the LTE DSS secondary cell during setup of a dual connectivity mobile device. Alternatively a dual connectivity mobile device can detect the misconfiguration and notify the network to terminate one of the carriers. Information regarding the misconfiguration can be saved in the mobile device to proactively avoid the dual misconfiguration going forward. Such information can be communicated to other mobile devices, as well as the network.

  • Publication number: 20230020097
Abstract: Data can be sent simultaneously on the data links between long-term evolution (LTE) and new radio (NR) for dual connectively. However, a mobile device can indicate its capabilities to the network. The mobile device capabilities can comprise the number of total multiple-in multiple-out (MIMO) layers that the mobile device can support. Because different sectors or markets can have different spectrums that can make use of an increased or decreased number of layers, then assessing the MIMO layer capabilities of the mobile device can allow the network to dynamically adjust the LTE side and the NR side capabilities to optimize network utilization.

  • Patent number: 11539830
Abstract: A 5G stand alone system information broadcast message (SIB) can be drilled down into to determine a frequency range (sub 6 Ghz, millimeter wave, or both) that is accessible to a stand-alone user equipment based on a cell associated with the user equipment. The frequency range can be used to determine whether the user equipment shall display a “5G” icon or a “5G+” icon. The display can also be dependent on whether the user equipment is in idle/inactive modes or connected mode. Optionally, the user equipment can be a sub 6 Ghz dual band (frequency range 1 and frequency range 2) device, which can also be used to determine the displayed icon of the user equipment.

  • Patent number: 11540193
Abstract: Wireless network operations can choose a long-term evolution (LTE) and 5G new radio (NR) dual connectivity deployment architecture using LTE as the anchor radio access network (RAN) node and adding mmWave NR as a secondary node when available. However, dual LTE/NR radios can consume more power and contribute more heat, thus degrading performance of radio frequency components. The overheating can be addressed by the user equipment (UE) sending an information message to indicate areas in which it requests to operate with reduced capability. Consequently, the network can determine whether to grant the request, or the UE can switch between NR to LTE depending on NR downlink channel quality.

  • Patent number: 11540186
Abstract: When frequency range 1 (FR1) (e.g., Sub6 Ghz radio coverage), and FR2 (e.g., mmW coverage) are present in a given area, there can be a broader coverage from FR1 broadcasting in addition to targeted coverage from FR2 broadcasting. Consequently, FR1 can overlap FR2. To generate system efficiencies, the FR1 and FR2 spectrums can be combined by carrier aggregation (CA) and/or dual connectivity (DC). Thus, a hybrid approach can combine use of both CA and DC, based on radio access network instructions and radio frequency conditions experienced by a user equipment device as it transitions between CA and DC coverage areas.

  • Publication number: 20220377746
Abstract: This disclosure proposes a system to manage radio frequency (RF) interferences towards earth stations to solve needs of network providers. For example, user a user equipment that is close to an earth station can cause signal interference with the earth station as the user equipment is communicating with a base station. However, if the base station shares earth station location information with the user equipment, the user equipment can adjust its frequency and/or reduce its signal power to mitigate interference with the earth station. Alternatively, or in addition to, the base station can adjust its signal strength, and/or terminate a signal or resource that it is sending to the user equipment to prevent signal interference with the earth station.
