Patent number: 6529754Abstract: A watch-type biometric measuring device having a pulse wave sensor unit for detecting a pulse rate by a reflective optical sensor, a housing 10 storing therein the sensor unit, and a wristband 20 is improved. The wristband 20 has short band pieces 21 and 23 near the housing 10, and long band pieces 22 and 24 far from the housing 10. The band pieces 21 and 23 have high flexibility, and permit movement of a living body. On the other hand, the band pieces 22 and 24 have low flexibility, and secure holding ability against the living body. With this configuration, it is possible to mount the biometric measuring device on a measurement site of the living body with high adhesion while minimizing the sensation of pressure.Type: GrantFiled: November 30, 1999Date of Patent: March 4, 2003Assignee: Seiko Epson CorporationInventor: Yutaka Kondo

Patent number: 6198951Abstract: When emitted light from LED 31 is incident on photodiodes 32 and 33 with luminance Pa and Pb, currents ia and ib are generated according to luminance Pa and Pb. When outside light is incident through the finger tissues on photodiodes 32 and 33 with luminance Pc, current ic is produced. The current i1 (=ia+ic) generated by photodiode 32, and the current i2 (=−ib−ic) generated by photodiode 33, are added at node X, and the current ic corresponding to outside light is thus cancelled. In addition, photodiodes 32 and 33 are disposed at different distances from LED 31. As a result, the current flowing to opamp 34 is current ia corresponding to luminance Pa because luminance Pb is extremely low. The opamp 34 then applies a current voltage conversion to generate pulse wave signal Vm.Type: GrantFiled: April 30, 1999Date of Patent: March 6, 2001Assignee: Seiko Epson CorporationInventors: Tsukasa Kosuda, Yutaka Kondo, Hajime Kurihara, Norimitsu Baba

Patent number: 5906582Abstract: An organism information measuring method and an arm wear type pulse-wave measuring method having a sensor unit having a size that does not cause any inconvenience to a user when the user is doing an exercise, such as jogging, so that information about an organism, such as the pulse rate, is measured. The arm wear type pulse-wave measuring apparatus has a wrist band for putting the body of the apparatus on the arm; and a sensor unit that is put on the root of a finger by a sensor securing band. If the finger is irradiated with light by a LED in the foregoing state, light reaches the blood vessel and is reflected. The reflected light is received by a phototransistor in such a manner that the quantity of received light corresponds to change in the quantity of blood occurring due to pulse waves of the blood. The LED is of a type capable of emitting blue light and has a light emission wavelength peak of 450 nm. The phototransistor has a light receiving wavelength region in a range from 300 nm to 600 nm.Type: GrantFiled: September 12, 1995Date of Patent: May 25, 1999Assignees: Seiko Epson Corporation, Seiko Instruments, Inc.Inventors: Yutaka Kondo, Katsuyuki Honda, Masayuki Kawata

Patent number: 5178409Abstract: Disclosed is a steering wheel equipped with an air bag system. The steering wheel has a controller having a processor which outputs a trigger signal for actuating an air bag in accordance with the strength of an impact arising from a collision of a car, upon sensing the impact, and a memory which stores a process by this processor; an inflator which generates a gas in accordance with a signal outputted from the controller; and an air bag which is inflated with the gas supplied from the inflator. Between the opposite surfaces of a controller case and an inflator case, there is provided a heat-insulating layer. This heat-insulating layer serves to reduce heat passing from the inflator to the controller when the air bag is inflated. Consequently, contents stored in the memory mounted in the controller will never be destroyed by heat, and it is possible to analyze the process of operation of the processor after a collision of a car body.Type: GrantFiled: April 24, 1991Date of Patent: January 12, 1993Assignee: Toyoda Gosei Co., Ltd.Inventors: Tetsushi Hiramitsu, Satoshi Ohno, Yutaka Kondo

Patent number: 5059076Abstract: A structure for preventing from readjusting an adjustment member, which adjusts an extent of operation by rotating the adjustment member, and more particularly, for preventing from readjusting an adjustment member in a carburetor. The structure for the adjustment member includes a hollow tube of a heat shrinkable resin to be fitted around the outer surface of a rotating operational portion of the adjustment member in such a manner that when the hollow tube is heated to be shrunk, it is securely fixed around the outer surface of the adjustment operational portion. Owing to such an arrangement, it will be impossible to fit a tool or the like onto the adjustment operational portion of the adjustment member once it has been available to the user, thus preventing the readjustment. Even if it is readjusted, the readjustment will be easily recognized during a particular inspection of performance.Type: GrantFiled: June 28, 1990Date of Patent: October 22, 1991Assignee: Aisan Kogyo Kabushiki KaishaInventor: Yutaka Kondo
