  • Publication number: 20070189528
Abstract: Two stations in a wireless local area network generate a key from a shared key by generating respective proprietary random numbers, using the shared key to encrypt the proprietary random numbers, sending each other the encrypted proprietary random numbers, using the shared key to decrypt the encrypted proprietary random numbers, and then combining both proprietary random numbers with part of the shared key. The generated key is then used to encrypt and decrypt data sent between the two stations. Exchanging the proprietary random numbers in an encrypted form enhances the security of the generated key.
