Abstract

A disposable protective cover for high back chairs including a flexible rectangular panel having a short upper edge, a short lower edge, and long opposed side edges. The flexible rectangular panel is positionable over an upper end of a high back chair. A pair of elastic straps are secured to the long opposed side edges of the flexible rectangular panel for securement of the panel to the upper end of the high back chair.

Description

BACKGROUND OF THE INVENTION

[0001] The present invention relates to a disposable protective cover for high back chairs and more particularly pertains to preventing a person's head and neck from contacting a high back chair that the public has used.

[0002] The use of furniture covering devices is known in the prior art. More specifically, furniture covering devices heretofore devised and utilized for the purpose of protecting furniture are known to consist basically of familiar, expected and obvious structural configurations, notwithstanding the myriad of designs encompassed by the crowded prior art which have been developed for the fulfillment of countless objectives and requirements.

[0003] By way of example, U.S. Pat. No. 2,227,180 to Falk discloses an automobile seat cover comprised of a single piece of fabric, attached to the upper end of a seat. U.S. Pat. Nos. 2,771,939 to Trubitt and 5,655,813 to Kirkpatrick disclose additional seat cover devices for protecting furniture.

[0004] While these devices fulfill their respective, particular objective and requirements, the aforementioned patents do not describe a disposable protective cover for high back chairs for preventing a person's head and neck from coming in contact with a high back chair that is used by the public.

[0005] In this respect, the disposable protective cover for high back chairs according to the present invention substantially departs from the conventional concepts and designs of the prior art, and in doing so provides an apparatus primarily developed for the purpose of preventing a person's head and neck from coming in contact with a high back chair that is used by the public.

[0006] Therefore, it can be appreciated that there exists a continuing need for a new and improved disposable protective cover for high back chairs which can be used for preventing a person's head and neck from coming in contact with a high back chair that is used by the public. In this regard, the present invention substantially fulfills this need.

SUMMARY OF THE INVENTION

[0007] In the view of the foregoing disadvantages inherent in the known types of furniture covering devices now present in the prior art, the present invention provides an improved disposable protective cover for high back chairs. As such, the general purpose of the present invention, which will be described subsequently in greater detail, is to provide a new and improved disposable protective cover for high back chairs which has all the advantages of the prior art and none of the disadvantages.

[0008] To attain this, the present invention essentially comprises a flexible rectangular panel having a short upper edge, a short lower edge, and long opposed side edges. The flexible rectangular panel is positionable over an upper end of a high back chair. A pair of elastic straps are secured to the long opposed side edges of the flexible rectangular panel for securement of the panel to the upper end of the high back chair. The straps each have an upper end and a lower end. The upper ends are secured to the opposed side edges of the panel downwardly of the upper edge. The lower ends are secured to the opposed side edges downwardly of the upper ends. The positioning of the straps with respect to the panel divides the panel into a small upper section, a large lower section and an intermediate section therebetween whereby the small upper section is positioned on a back side of the upper end of the high back chair, the large lower section is positioned on a front side of the upper end of the high back chair and the intermediate section is positioned atop the upper end of the high back chair.

[0009] There has thus been outlined, rather broadly, the more important features of the invention in order that the detailed description thereof that follows may be better understood, and in order that the present contribution to the art may be better appreciated. There are, of course, additional features of the invention that will be described hereinafter and which will form the subject matter of the claims appended hereto.

The invention is capable of other embodiments and of being practiced and carried out in various ways. Also, it is to be understood that the phraseology and terminology employed herein are for the purpose of description and should not be regarded as limiting.

[0011] As such, those skilled in the art will appreciate that the conception, upon which this disclosure is based, may readily be utilized as a basis for the designing of other structures, methods and systems for carrying out the several purposes of the present invention. It is important, therefore, that the claims be regarded as including such equivalent constructions insofar as they do not depart from the spirit and scope of the present invention.

[0012] It is therefore an object of the present invention to provide a new and improved disposable protective cover for high back chairs which has all the advantages of the prior art furniture covering devices and none of the disadvantages.

[0014] It is a further object of the present invention to provide a new and improved disposable protective cover for high back chairs which is of durable and reliable construction.

[0015] An even further object of the present invention is to provide a new and improved disposable protective cover for high back chairs which is susceptible of a low cost of manufacture with regard to both materials and labor, and which accordingly is then susceptible of low prices of sale to the consuming public, thereby making such a disposable protective cover for high back chairs economically available to the buying public.

[0016] Even still another object of the present invention is to provide a new and improved disposable protective cover for high back chairs for preventing a person's head and neck from coming in contact with a high back chair that is used by the public.

[0017] Lastly, it is an object of the present invention to provide a new and improved disposable protective cover for high back chairs including a flexible rectangular panel having a short upper edge, a short lower edge, and long opposed side edges. The flexible rectangular panel is positionable over an upper end of a high back chair. A pair of elastic straps are secured to the long opposed side edges of the flexible rectangular panel for securement of the panel to the upper end of the high back chair.

DESCRIPTION OF THE PREFERRED EMBODIMENT

[0024] With reference now to the drawings, and in particular, to FIGS. 1 through 3 thereof, the preferred embodiment of the new and improved disposable protective cover for high back chairs embodying the principles and concepts of the present invention and generally designated by the reference number 10 will be described.

[0025] Specifically, it will be noted in the various figures that the device relates to a disposable protective cover for high back chairs for preventing a person's head and neck from coming in contact with a high back chair that is used by the public. In its broadest context, the device consists of a flexible rectangular panel and a pair of elastic straps. Such components are individually configured and correlated with respect to each other so as to attain the desired objective.

[0026] The flexible rectangular panel 12 has a short upper edge 14, a short lower edge 16, and long opposed side edges 18. The flexible rectangular panel 12 is positionable over an upper end of a high back chair 20.

[0027] The pair of elastic straps 22 are secured to the long opposed side edges 18 of the flexible rectangular panel 12 for securement of the panel 12 to the upper end of the high back chair 20. The straps 22 each have an upper end 24 and a lower end 26. The upper ends 24 are secured to the opposed side edges 18 of the panel 12 downwardly of the upper edge 14. The lower ends 26 are secured to the opposed side edges 18 downwardly of the upper ends 24. The positioning of the strap's 22 with respect to the panel 12 divides the panel 12 into a small upper section 28, a large lower section 30 and an intermediate section 32 therebetween whereby the small upper section 28 is positioned on a back side of the upper end of the high back chair 20, the large lower section 30 is positioned on a front side of the upper end of the high back chair 20 and the intermediate section 32 is positioned atop the upper end of the high back chair 20.

[0028] The present invention allows a person to comfortably sit in a publicly used high back chair 20, such as those used on airplanes, trains, and movie theaters, and not have to worry about the personal hygiene practices of previous users. Once the person is finished sitting in the chair 20 can simply remove the device 10 and properly discard it in a garbage receptacle. The present invention will prevent the person's head and neck from making direct contact with the high back chair 20.

[0029] As to the manner of usage and operation of the present invention, the same should be apparent from the above description. Accordingly, no further discussion relating to the manner of usage and operation will be provided.

[0030] With respect to the above description then, it is to be realized that the optimum dimensional relationships for the parts of the invention, to include variations in size, materials, shape, form, function and the manner of operation, assembly and use, are deemed readily apparent and obvious to one skilled in the art, and all equivalent relationships to those illustrated in the drawings and described in the specification are intended to be encompassed by the present invention.

Further, since numerous modifications and changes will readily occur to those skilled in the art, it is not desired to limit the invention to the exact construction and operation shown and described, and accordingly, all suitable modifications and equivalents may be resorted to, falling within the scope of the invention.

Claims

1. A disposable protective cover for high back chairs for preventing a person's head and neck from coming in contact with a high back chair that is used by the public comprising, in combination:

a flexible rectangular panel having a short upper edge, a short lower edge, and long opposed side edges, the flexible rectangular panel being positionable over an upper end of a high back chair; and

a pair of elastic straps secured to the long opposed side edges of the flexible rectangular panel for securement of the panel to the upper end of the high back chair, the straps each having an upper end and a lower end, the upper ends being secured to the opposed side edges of the panel downwardly of the upper edge, the lower ends being secured to the opposed side edges downwardly of the upper ends, the positioning of the straps with respect to the panel dividing the panel into a small upper section, a large lower section and an intermediate section therebetween whereby the small upper section is positioned on a back side of the upper end of the high back chair, the large lower section is positioned on a front side of the upper end of the high back chair and the intermediate section is positioned atop the upper end of the high back chair.

2. A disposable protective cover for high back chairs for preventing a person's head and neck from coming in contact with a high back chair that is used by the public comprising, in combination:

a flexible rectangular panel having a short upper edge, a short lower edge, and long opposed side edges, the flexible rectangular panel being positionable over an upper end of a high back chair; and

a pair of elastic straps secured to the long opposed side edges of the flexible rectangular panel for securement of the panel to the upper end of the high back chair.

The disposable protective cover for high back chairs as set forth in claim 2, wherein the straps each have an upper end and a lower end, the upper ends being secured to the opposed side edges of the panel downwardly of the upper edge, the lower ends being secured to the opposed side edges downwardly of the upper ends.

The disposable protective cover for high back chairs as set forth in claim 2, wherein the positioning of the straps with respect to the panel divides the panel into a small upper section, a large lower section and an intermediate section therebetween whereby the small upper section is positioned on a back side of the upper end of the high back chair, the large lower section is positioned on a front side of the upper end of the high back chair and the intermediate section is positioned atop the upper end of the high back chair.
