Abstract

The present invention embodies a zigzag member made up of relatively sharp angles where each side is spread out in an alternate direction from the next. The present invention allows the user to hold their hair back away from their face without the cumbersome bar of a traditional hair comb and creates texture in the hair by spreading apart each section of hair, between each zigzag.

BACKGROUND OF THE INVENTION

[0002] The present invention relates to a hair fastener. More particularly, a zigzag shaped retaining comb.

[0003] 2. Description of prior art

[0004] Many people like to secure and style their hair away from their face with various hair combs. A single retaining comb with a plurality of teeth extending from a comb base is the most commonly used. This embodiment is effective however the bar is cumbersome and the teeth keep the hair between each tooth confined and close to the next.

[0005] U.S. Pat. No. 2,547,295 has a series of wave like “serpentine” portions with sides between which pieces of hair are confined. It has thickened ends to keep each wave like portion close to the next. This, along with the wave portions, also keeps each tooth close to the next and keeps the hair between each tooth confined and close to the next.

[0006] The present invention embodies a series of zigzag portions made up of relatively sharp angles where each side is spread out in an alternate direction from the next. The present invention allows the user to hold their hair back away from their face without the cumbersome bar of a traditional hair comb and creates texture in the hair by spreading each lock of hair, between the zigzag formations, away from the next. It also allows the comb to be elongated without a lot of teeth. Normally, a plurality of zigzag shapes wouldn't stay held in the user's hair; however, the zigzags left and right sides have wave-like formations on them to help hold it in the hair.

SUMMARY OF THE PRESENT INVENTION

[0007] An object of the present invention is to provide a retaining comb, which is convenient, practical, and inexpensive for use in hair fastening.

[0008] A further object is to provide a hair retaining comb that has no bar or comb base that runs along the fastened hair section

[0009] A further object is to provide such an instrument where all the comb teeth are a zigzag formation.

[0010] A further object is to provide such an instrument that can be used unassisted by the individual styling their hair, eliminating the expense of a professional stylist.

[0011] A further object is to provide such an instrument that can be used to comb the user's hair before being used as a fastener.

[0012] A further object is to provide such an instrument that will quickly hold the user's hair up in a multitude of neatly secured styles.

[0013] A further object is to provide such an instrument that doesn't become loose on the user's head.

[0014] A further object is to provide such an instrument, wherein, the zigzag formation spreads the hair between each zigzag away from the hair in the adjacent zigzag.

[0015] A further object is to provide such an instrument that can have a decretive article attached to the ends of each zigzag.

[0016] According to one aspect of the present invention, there is provided a zigzag retaining-comb comprising, a single continuous wire bent into a plurality of zigzag formations. Each end of the wire has a few small wavelike formations like those seen on standard hairpins to help the zigzag retaining comb stay in the hair.

[0017] According to the arrangement described above the comb is placed into an upswept hair section and left in place. Wherein, the hair section is held in place and pieces of the hair section are spread apart from each other because of the spaced apart zigzag shape.

[0018] Accordingly a preferred embodiment of the present invention the entire zigzag formation is made from a single integral wire. The wire is substantially the same width throughout.

DETAILED DESCRIPTION OF THE PREFERRED EMBODIMENTS

[0026] Referring to FIG. 1 of the accompanying drawings. There is illustrated a hair fastener embodying the present invention. The hair fastener, generally designated by reference numeral 1, comprises a first tip end 10 and a second tip end 11, each said tip end 10 and 11 have wave-like portions 12 formed thereon. Between tip ends 10 and 11 are a plurality of zigzag formations 13.

[0027] In use FIG. 2 of the hair fastener 1 described above, the zigzag comb fastener is placed into upswept hair and left in place to secure it.

[0028] FIG. 3 shows a few decretive articles 9 attached to each end of the zigzag bends 13.

[0029] FIG. 4 Shows another embodiment illustrating a hair fastener embodying the present invention. The hair fastener, generally designated by reference numeral 8, comprises a first bobby pin 14 comprising a bar 15 slightly bent at its end 16 and a bar 17. Bar 17 continues to bend and form a zigzag formation 18. The last zigzag formation 19 continues on to create a second bobby-pin 20 consisting of bar 21 and second bar 22 with a slight bend at its end 23.

[0030] FIG. 5 shows a few decretive articles 24 attached to each end 25 of the zigzag formations 18.

[0031] The present invention being thus described, it is obvious that the same embodiment and uses may be varied in many ways. For instance, the zigzag formations could be one zigzag or a plurality of them. The bobby-pin formations could be of any shape known of bobby pins in the art and the wire could be injected molded plastic that forms the same shape as the wire embodiment. Further, any way to style the hair with the present invention applies. Such variations are not to be regarded as a departure from the spirit and scope of the invention, and all such variations as would be obvious to those skilled in the art are intended to be included within the scope of the following claims,

Claims

1. A hair fastener for use in styling hair of a human being comprising:

a zigzag member having a series of substantially sharp angles spread out in alternate directions; and,

a wave-like shape formed at each end of said zigzag member;

whereby, the zigzag member is placed into a section of hair to secure.

2. The hair fastener of claim 1 wherein said zigzag member is substantially the same width throughout.

3. The hair fastener of claim 1 wherein a decretive member is attached by attaching means to at least one bend of the zigzag member.

4. A hair fastener for use in styling hair of a human being comprising:

a zigzag member having a series of substantially sharp angles spread out in alternate directions; and,

a bobby pin integrally formed at each end of said zigzag member;

whereby, said hair fastener is placed into a section of hair to secure.

5. The hair fastener of claim 4 wherein said zigzag member is substantially the same width throughout.

6. The hair fastener of claim 4 wherein a decretive member is attached by attaching means to at least one bend of the zigzag member.
