Drywall t-square circular saw holder attachment

This is a device which is attached temporarly to a Drywall T-Square and it will hold a Circular Saw in position, in relation to the devices' position on the T-Square. It is intended to be used in the performance of ‘Rip Cut’ operations with the saw, on sheet goods or materials.

Description
SUMMARY OF INVENTION

[0001] This new device installs on a drywall T-Square and allows a circular saw to be inserted into it, and it holds the saw in a straight line cutting position while performing ‘Rip Cuts’ on plywood or any sheet goods.

DESCRIPTION OF DRAWING

[0002] The following drawing shows in detail the manner in which this device attaches to a drywall t-square, in it's respective slot and how it is held in place by the thumbscrew, on the arm of the t-square. It also depicts where and how a circular saw is inserted into it, in order to guide the saw as it cuts, This model will accept any of various saws that have either a 5″ or 7″ wide base plate. The drawing also shows how the adjustment is made to accept one saw or the other.

DETAILED DESCRIPTION

[0003] This new accessory device is intended to be temporarly attached to the long or lateral arm of a drywall t-square. This is done by inserting the arm of the t-square through the ‘2″×{fraction (3/16)}″ t-square slot’ on the device. Once this is done, the device can be adjusted and fixed to any desired position, on the t-square arm, by the ¼″-20 thumbscrew on the device.

[0004] Once the device is in position on the t-square arm, the front edge of any standard circular saws base plate can be inserted into the ‘saw base plate slot’. Thus establishing a straight & steady cutting platform guide, by the device holding the saw in position, in relation to the position of the device on the t-square arm. This establishes certain advantages and promotes speed & productivity in repetative cutting operations, by omitting the need to use a straight edge and clamps in sheet material ‘Rip Cut’ operations, the need to measure and mark both ends of the material to be ‘Ripped’. Omits the need to re-measure identical size cuts on additional material—as long as the devices' original position on the t-square arm has not been moved. Since the device is attached to the t-square, it leaves the saw unencumbered to perform other cutting operations without needing to remove or reattach a device to the saw. The lateral adjustment of the device on the t-square arm is easily achived by simply releasing the ¼″-20 thumbscrew and with the saw still inserted in the saw slot, the pushing or pulling of the saw laterally from right to left will move both the saw and the device to the desired mark. At which time the thumbscrew can be re-tightened. The device has incorporated in it's design a 2″ removable saw stop which allows either 5″ wide or 7″ wide base plate saws.

DESCRIPTION OF USE

[0005] Take a sheet of plywood for instance, placed horizontally on saw horses or a work table, and mark either of the 4 Ft. ends to the desired cutting measurement. Take the device in one hand and the long arm of the t-square in the other, and insert the t-square arm through the appropriate slot on the device, and lay both flat on the marked end of the plywood. Now with saw in hand, insert the front lip of the saw's base into the ‘saw base plate ledge guide’. Now by moving the saw laterally either left or right, it causes the device to slide on the arm of the t-square along with the saw, while sighting down on the saw blade until it reaches the cutting mark. Now tighten the ¼″-20 thumbscrew on the device to prevent it from moving any further, and now the device will maintain the saw in a straight & steady cutting line, as the ‘Rip Cut’ procceds.
