Two piece sump cover plate without water inlet

Two-piece sump cover plate, without water inlet, enables easy installation over the sump container. This two-piece cover plate also enables easy access to the interior of the sump container for servicing of the sump pump, replacement of the sump pump, or other necessary purposes without disassembly of the sump pump discharge conduit. This cover plate has two openings, one accommodates the discharge conduit of the sump pump and the other accommodates the pipe of the battery back up sump pump. The cover plate can have the option Of having only one opening that only accommodates the discharge conduit from the sump pump when battery back up sump pump is not used.

Description

[0001] This application claims priority for my provisional application No. 60/382,392 dated May 22, 2002.

BACK GROUND OF THE INVENTION

[0002] This invention relates to an improved two-piece cover plate for a sump pump container, which enables easy installation. The container or the reservoir contains a sump pump associated with a discharge conduit, which exits through the container cover and through the basement wall to an exterior location. The cover plate of a conventional sump container is a unitary one-piece cover. The disadvantage of such known sump cover plate is that they require disassembly of the sump pump discharge conduit in order to remove the cover plate to provide access to the interior of the sump container, such as for serving of the sump pump, replacement thereof, cleaning of the conduit inlet, or other necessary purposes. Sump cover with two connectable sections is known from U.S. Pat. No. 6,276,093 B1 One of the two sections 19 in FIG. 1 comprises a floodwater inlet drain as shown in FIG. 1 of U.S. Pat. No. 6,276,093 B1. Section 19 of the cover plate in FIG. 1 of U.S. Pat. No. 6,276,093 B1 also has an optional transverse opening 27 in FIG. 2 surrounded by an elevated collar 28 in FIG. 2 for supporting an alarm water level sensor 29 in FIG. 1 and FIG. 2. The water inlet drain 26 comprises a cup or housing 30 in FIG. 2 and FIG. 3 of U.S. Pat. No. 6,276,093 B1. The section 20 in FIG. 1 also has a drain housing 30 as seen in FIG. 1 OF U.S. Pat. No. 6,276,093 BI

[0003] In comparison to two sections sump cover plate of U.S. Pat. No. 6,276,093, the cover plate sections of this invention have neither water inlet drain nor water inlet drain cup or housing. Instead, the cover plate of this invention has two sections, each has two semi circular openings, which after assembly accommodates the conventional water-discharge conduit and the pipe from the back up battery operated sump pump.

SUMMARY OF THE INVENTION

[0004] This invention relates to a two-piece cover plate without water inlet for a sump container, which enables easy access to the interior of the sump container for servicing of sump pump without disassembling the discharge conduit. This invention also allows passage of a pipe from a battery back up sump pump.

DETAILED DESCRIPTION

[0009] Referring to FIG. 1 of the present invention, the sump container cover plate comprises two sections 7 and 8 divided along a line 4-4, which intersect two transverse openings 1 and 2, which accommodates the conventional water discharge conduit 10.( FIG. 3). and pipe from battery back up pump 11.(FIG. 3) respectively. One cover section contains an overlapping flange or lip extension 12 (FIG. 2) rests on the other cover section at area 13 (FIG. 2) along line 2-2 (FIG. 1) except in the area of the openings 1. (FIG. 1) surrounding the discharge conduit 10 (FIG. 3) and opening 2 (FIG. 1) surrounding pipe 11. (FIG. 3) for battery back up pump.

[0010] The cover section 8 is provided with three screw holes 9. (FIG. 1), to provide access for three ¼ inch bolts to the threaded nuts 14. (FIG. 2) into which they are to be engaged to fasten the cover section 8. (FIG. 2) to the cover section 7 (FIG. 2). Three threaded nuts 14 (FIG. 2) are welded to the under surface of the cover section 7 (FIG. 2) Corresponding to the screw holes 9. (FIG. 1) of the cover section 8. In place of the three threaded nuts 14. (FIG. 2) welded to the under surface of the cover section 7. (FIG. 2), three Pem Nuts 15. (FIG. 2a) will be incorporated in the cover section 7. (FIG. 2).
