2. Description of the Related Art

It is well known to those skilled in the art that a protector is generally used for protecting a golf club. When not in use, a golf club should be protected well as it is put into a protector, this especially being true for a costly wood, e.g., #1, #2, and #5 woods, and for a costly putter.

A conventional golf club protector comprises a head portion to protect the head of a golf club and a body portion to protect the shaft of a golf club. Generally, the head portion is knitted from a good flannel material, while the body portion is fabricated from an elastic material and is in a shape of an elongated cylinder.

When a golf club is secured in a protector, the head of the club is covered completely and the indentifying number of the club is not visible making club selection difficult during play. Therefore, some protectors are permanently marked with markers on their outside. However, in this way, one protector can only be used for a specific club, and cannot be used for other clubs, which can be inconvenient.

Alternatively, some protectors are marked by a detachable marker tag. Although in this way, one protector can be used for different types of clubs by replacing one marker tag with another, it is also inconvenient to carry many sets of marker tags.

DETAILED DESCRIPTION OF THE INVENTION

FIGS. 1-12 illustrate a display device for a golf club protector in accordance with one embodiment of the invention, comprising an enclosure having a front cover 1 and a back cover 2 connected through a plurality of screws 3, a connective member 4 for connecting with a golf club protector is set on the top of the enclosure. Preferably, the connective member 4 is a long hole serving for a cloth strip to pass through to connect with the golf club protector. A marker display window 5 is formed on the front cover 1 of the enclosure. A disk 6 capable of rotating intermittently, a tumbling apparatus, and a non-return apparatus acting on the disk 6 are disposed inside of the enclosure. The disk 6 is fitted on a rotating shaft and rotates around the rotating shaft.

The tumbling apparatus comprises a repositionable tumbling lever 8 and a matched assembly of a ratchet 9 and a ratchet wheel 10. The outer end of the tumbling lever 8 protrudes out of the tumbling slot 14 at a side of the enclosure. The inner end of the tumbling lever 8 is connected to the pinhole 91 of the ratchet 9 by means of a connecting pin 81. The assembly of the tumbling lever 8 and the ratchet 9 rotates around a rotating column 15. An opening 82 serving for the rotating column 15 to pass through is formed on the tumbling lever 8. A torsion-spring capable of repositioning the tumbling lever 8 is disposed on the assembly of the tumbling lever 8 and the ratchet 9. One end of the torsion-spring is fixed on the torsion-spring fixing end 92 of the ratchet 9. The other end of the torsion spring is wound around the rotating column 15 of the tumbling lever. The ratchet wheel 9 is fixed at the center hole 18 of the disk 6. A fixed isolating plate 11 is disposed between the ratchet 9 and the disk 6.

The non-return apparatus comprises a non-return wheel 12 fixed circumferentially. A spring 13 is located between the front end of the non-return wheel 12 and the front cover of the enclosure. The back end of the non-return wheel 12 is engaged with the frond end of the ratchet wheel 10 by means of tooth mechanisms 121 and 101. A plurality of different markers 7 is distributed along the circumferential direction of the disk 6. When rotating the disk 6 intermittently, the different markers 7 are displayed orderly through the marker display window 5 of the enclosure, and only one marker is displayed at a time.

At an initial stage, the tumbling lever 8 is located on top of the tumbling slot 14 of the enclosure. The outer end of the tumbling lever 8 is exposed out of the tumbling slot 14. Since a torsion-spring capable of repositing the tumbling lever 8 is set on the assembly of the tumbling lever 8 and the ratchet 9, and one end of the torsion-spring is fixed on the ratchet 9, and the other end of the torsion-spring is wound around the rotating column 15 of the tumbling lever 8, the torsion from the torsion-spring needs to be overcome when tumbling the tumbling lever downward.

When tumbling the tumbling lever 8 downward, the ratchet 9 rotates around the rotating column 15 with the tumbling lever 8, engages with the ratchet wheel 10 to drive the ratchet wheel 10, and the disk 6 rotates synchronously. When the lever 8 is tumbled to the lower end of the slot 14, the disk 6 is rotated exactly to a position to display the next marker. At this time, releasing the lever 8, the ratchet 9 rotates backward to its initial position under the torsion force provided by the torsion-spring, and the lever 8 moves to the upper end of the slot 14 accordingly. During this back rotation, the ratchet 9 slides on instead of gearing with the ratchet wheel 10. Meanwhile, the non-return wheel 12 is disposed at the front of the disk 6, so that the ratchet wheel 10 and the disk 6 will not rotate when the ratchet 9 is sliding on the ratchet 10. A key member 16 is disposed on the non-return wheel 12, and is inserted into the key slot 17 at the inner side of the front cover 1 to fix the non-return wheel 12 circumferentially. A spring 13 serving to provide reliable engagement between the non-return wheel 12 and the ratchet wheel 10 is disposed between the front end of the non-return wheel 12 and the front of the enclosure, while the back end of the non-return wheel 12 is engaged with the front end of the ratchet wheel 10 be means of tooth mechanisms. By repeating the above process, the rotation wheel can be rotated about a certain angle to display a specific marker.

While particular embodiment of the invention has been shown and described, it will be obvious to those skilled in the art that changes and modifications may be made without departing from the invention in its broader aspects, and therefore, the aim in the appended claims is to cover all such changes and modifications as fall within the true spirit and scope of the invention.
