Description
BACKGROUND OF THE INVENTION

1. Field of the Invention

The present invention relates to clothing and more particularly, to a pallium formed of a single piece of fabric.

2. Description of the Related Art

Basically, a pallium is a band wound about the neck. Regular palliums include two types. I.e., the simple type and the complex type. A simple type pallium is a simple piece of fabric for the shoulders and sometimes for the arms. A simple type pallium may slip from the user's shoulders easily. Further, a simple type pallium cannot cover the user's back, waist, and hands. A complex type pallium is shaped like a poncho, having a front panel, a back panel, shoulder panels, and arm panels that are stitched to one another. A complex type pallium has a complicated structure. The fabrication of a complex type pallium requires much labor and time, resulting in a high manufacturing cost. Wearing a complex type pallium is also complicated.

SUMMARY OF THE INVENTION

The present invention has been accomplished under the circumstances in view. It is therefore the main object of the present invention to provide a pallium, which can firmly be secured to the body of the user to cover the user's shoulders, arms, back, and waist. It is another object of the present invention to provide a pallium, which has a simple structure and is inexpensive to manufacture.

To achieve these and other objects of the present invention, the pallium is formed by folding up a single rectangular piece of fabric and partially fastening the two opposite short sides of the folded piece of fabric so that a main opening is defined in one long side of the folded piece of fabric and two small side openings are defined in the two opposite short sides of the folded piece of fabric.

BRIEF DESCRIPTION OF THE DRAWINGS

FIG. 1 is an extended out view of a single rectangular piece of sheet material for pallium in accordance with a first embodiment of the present invention.

FIG. 2 is an elevational view of a pallium in accordance with the first embodiment of the present invention.

FIG. 3A shows the status of the pallium of the first embodiment of the present invention put on the body of a user.

FIG. 3B is a front view of FIG. 3A.

FIG. 3C is a back side view of FIG. 3A.

FIG. 4A is an extended out view of a single rectangular piece of sheet material for pallium in accordance with a second embodiment of the present invention.

FIG. 4B is an elevational view of a pallium in accordance with the second embodiment of the present invention.

FIG. 5A is an exploded view of a pallium in accordance with a third embodiment of the present invention.

FIG. 5B is an elevational view of the pallium in accordance with the third embodiment of the present invention.

DETAILED DESCRIPTION OF THE PREFERRED EMBODIMENT

Referring to FIGS. 1 and 2, a pallium in accordance with the present invention is formed of one single rectangular piece of sheet material 10 prepared from chemical fibers, cottons, non-woven fabric, wool, fur, etc. The single rectangular piece of sheet material 10 is folded up, and then the short sides of the two opposite panels 11 and 12 of the folded single piece of sheet material 10 are partially fastened together by means of stitches, heat sealing (when non-woven fabric is used for the single rectangular piece of sheet material 10), hook and loop materials, adhesive, buttons, snaps, zip fasteners. Thus, the folded single rectangular piece of sheet material 10 has a main opening 13 extending along one long side, and two side openings 14 respectively disposed at the two opposite short sides.

Referring to FIGS. 3A, 3B and 3C, the main opening 13 can be opened widely for receiving the user's body, and the user's hands can be inserted through the side openings 14. Thus, the top panel 11 covers the user's shoulders and hands and the upper part of the user's back, and the bottom panel 12 covers the user's waist and the lower part of the user's back. Alternatively, the pallium can be put on the user's body in a reversed manner with the bottom panel 12 covering the user's shoulders and hands and the upper part of the user's back and the top panel 11 covering the user's waist and the lower part of the user's back.

FIGS. 4A and 4B show a second embodiment of the present invention. This embodiment is substantially similar to the aforesaid first embodiment with the exception that the single rectangular piece of sheet material 10 has two smoothly arched notches 15 respectively formed on the two opposite short sides. Thus, the side openings 14 have a smoothly curved profile.

FIGS. 5A and 5B show a third embodiment of the present invention. According to this embodiment, the pallium is formed of two equal rectangular pieces of sheet material 110 and 120.

Although particular embodiments of the invention have been described in detail for purposes of illustration, various modifications and enhancements may be made without departing from the spirit and scope of the invention. Accordingly, the invention is not to be limited except as by the appended claims.

Claims

1. A pallium comprising a rectangular top panel, said rectangular top panel having two opposite short sides and two opposite long sides, a rectangular bottom panel, said rectangular bottom panel having two opposite short sides and two opposite long sides, each of said short sides of said rectangular bottom panel being fastened to each other in a partial manner and defining a side opening between each short side of said rectangular top panel and the associating short side of said rectangular bottom panel, said rectangular top panel having a first long side thereof fixedly connected and non-detachable to a first long side of said rectangular bottom panel and a second long side defining with a second long side of said rectangular bottom panel to form a main opening.

2. The pallium as claimed in claim 1, wherein said rectangular top panel and said rectangular bottom panel each have a smoothly curved notch on each of the two opposite short sides thereof corresponding to the associating side opening.

3. The pallium as claimed in claim 1, wherein the first long side of said rectangular top panel is formed integral with the first long side of said rectangular bottom panel.
