Description
TECHNICAL FIELD

A folding bag that is designed to open up into a mat and serve as a sitting or lying mat in general, and specifically as a baby play mat.

BACKGROUND ART

It is very common that adults (parents, family members, baby-sitters and so on) take their babies or the babies under their charge on various outings, primarily to play in the garden, the backyard, the park or other places. As part of protecting the baby, it is customary to take along a mat, a blanket or a sheet, which is spread out on the grass or any other place, upon which the baby lies and plays. It is also customary for the adult to take along various items and toys required for the baby's care, entertainment and occupation. It is also customary that people go out to the park, the beach, the nature and to other outdoor activities, and take along both a bag to carry various items and a mat to sit or lie on.

Carrying the mat and the items and the baby toys involves a degree of cumbersomeness that is familiar to any mother or baby-sitter. This is true also when going out into nature. The present invention offers an efficient, inexpensive and quick solution that enables the adult to carry the said mat and baby items with great ease. The invention also offers an efficient solution when going out into nature.

THE INVENTION The Numbers in Parentheses Refer to the Corresponding Numbers in the Drawings

The present invention refers to a folding bag (1) that can open up into a mat (2) that serves as a baby play mat. The mat (2) is relatively large, spacious and safe for the baby to play on. The mat (2) can be folded and easily turned back into a carrying bag (1) for necessary baby items. The top layer (21) of the mat (2) (the part on which the baby plays) is made of a material that is comfortable and pleasant for the baby, preferably cotton fabric and the like. On the other hand, the bottom layer (22) of the mat (2) (which comes in contact with the grass or floor) is made of a water- and moisture-proof material and can be relatively easily cleaned.

The present invention refers to a folding bag (1) that essentially is composed of a mat (2) that serves as a baby play mat. The bag (1) comprises the following components: (a) A mat (2). (b) A buckle (31) that is attached to one end of the mat. (c) Another buckle (32) that is attached to the opposite end of the mat. (d) A strap or belt (3) with connectors that match the buckles at its ends. (e) Two or more buttons (41), (41′), (42), (42′) that are attached to the mat.

Drawing No. 1 depicts the bag (1) in open position. The bag (1) is essentially composed of a mat (2) whose top layer (21) is made of a pleasant-to-touch material, whereas the bottom layer (22) (not depicted in Drawing No. 1) is made of a waterproof and easy-to-clean material. There is a buckle (31) at one end of the mat and another buckle (32) at the opposite end of the mat. In this drawing, the top layer (21) of the mat (2) is facing up.

Drawing No. 1A depicts the bag (1) in open position. In this drawing, the bottom layer (22) of the mat (2) is facing up. The bag (1) is composed, as mentioned, of a mat (2) with two buckles (31) (32) attached to its ends. This drawing depicts the fastening devices (41) (42) (41′) (42′). It is recommended that the fastening devices be buttons so as to facilitate fastening. The fastening devices can be snap buttons, as depicted in this drawing (41) (42) (41′) (42′) or buttons, Velcro or any other common fastening device.

Drawing No. 2 depicts the bag (1) in open position, whereby the right-hand part of the mat (2) is in folded position. Drawing No. 3 depicts the bag (1) in open position and the right- and left-hand parts of the mat (2) in folded position. This drawing depicts both the strap (3) and the fastening devices (41) (42) (41′) (42′). Drawing No. 4 depicts the bag (1) in folded position. Drawing No. 5 depicts the bag (1) folded and ready to serve as a bag, and Drawing No. 6 depicts the bag in use.

The bag (1), subject of the invention, is used as follows: Stage 1: The bag (1) is open and ready for use as a baby play mat, as depicted, for instance, in Drawing No. 1. Stage 2: In order to fold the play mat and use it as a bag, one end of the mat (2) is folded over to about one third, as depicted, for instance, in Drawing No. 2. Stage 3: Then, the opposite side of the mat (2) is folded over to a degree that corresponds to the first fold, as depicted, for instance, in Drawing No. 3. Stage 4: The strap (3) is connected to the buckles (31) (32). Stage 5: The two remaining ends of the mat are folded (the two ends that were not folded in the previous stages) and the ends are joined using the fastening devices (41) (42), as depicted in Drawing No. 4. Stage 6: The strap (3) is retrieved, as depicted in Drawing No. 5, and the bag is ready to be carried, as depicted in Drawing No. 6.

When the user wishes to leave the house with the baby, he or she can put all of the items and toys required for the baby or the user into the bag (1) and carry them comfortably to the destination. Upon arriving at the destination, the bag (1) can be opened and spread out so as to serve, as mentioned and as described, as a play mat for the baby. When the user wishes to end the activity with the baby, he or she can fold up the bag (1) with the items and toys in the middle of the mat (2) and carry them easily and conveniently back home.

The bag, subject of the invention, can be implemented with various dimensions and sizes and from a variety of materials. The preferred, though not exclusive implementation of the bag (1) is with a mat (2) with a diameter of 106 cm. and a strap 116 cm. long. The preferred locations for attaching the buttons (41) (42) (41′) (42′) to the mat (2) are as depicted in Drawing A1, in other words 7 cm. from the edge of the mat. Nevertheless, as mentioned above, the invention applies to other dimensions as well.

The implementation of the invention can refer also to bags for use as sitting or lying mats, for use by people on nature outings, and not necessarily for outings with babies or children.

For aesthetic reasons, it is recommended to implement the invention using materials, strap, buckles and buttons in desirable designs and colors.

The invention can also be implemented on a storage box that can be opened up to serve as an activity, play or sitting mat. In such a case, that the mat from which the box is made should be made of a relatively rigid material with fold lines.
