Multipurpose Exercising Device

One embodiment of a multipurpose exercising device is capable of being held by a user's hand. The multipurpose exercising device may include a base portion. Further, the multipurpose exercising device may include a tapered portion extending from the base portion. The tapered portion may have a first gripping surface adapted to be secured by fingers of the user's hand and a second gripping surface adapted to contact a palm of the user's hand.

CROSS REFERENCE TO RELATED APPLICATION

This application claims the benefit of U.S. Provisional Application No. 61/153,785 filed on Feb. 19, 2009, the disclosure of which is incorporated by reference.

FIELD OF THE DISCLOSURE

The present disclosure generally relates to exercising apparatuses, and, more particularly, to a multipurpose exercising device capable of being held by a user's hand for performing a multitude of exercises.

BACKGROUND OF THE DISCLOSURE

Exercising is very important for physical fitness and overall development of a human body. Various exercising apparatuses may be employed for performing exercises to workout different parts of the human body. However, particular exercising apparatus may be capable of exercising a particular part of the human body, and as such, different exercising apparatuses may be utilized for exercising different parts of the human body. Further, people very often neglect to workout their hands, fingers, and forearms, which in turn may have adverse effect on the physical fitness and overall development of the human body.

SUMMARY OF THE DISCLOSURE

One embodiment of a multipurpose exercising device is capable of being held by a user's hand. The multipurpose exercising device may include a base portion. Further, the multipurpose exercising device may include a tapered portion extending from the base portion. The tapered portion may have a first gripping surface adapted to be secured by a palm of the user's hand and a second gripping surface adapted to be secured by fingers of the user's hand.

DETAILED DESCRIPTION OF THE DISCLOSURE

The exemplary embodiments described herein provide detail for illustrative purposes and are subject to many variations in structure and design. It should be emphasized, however, that the present disclosure is not limited to a particular multipurpose exercising device, as shown and described. It is understood that various omissions and substitutions of equivalents are contemplated as circumstances may suggest or render expedient, but these are intended to cover the application or embodiment without departing from the spirit or scope of the claims of the present disclosure. Also, it is to be understood that the phraseology and terminology used herein are for the purpose of description and should not be regarded as limiting.

The terms “first,” “second,” and the like, herein do not denote any order, quantity, or importance, but rather are used to distinguish one element from another, and the terms “a” and “an” herein do not denote a limitation of quantity, but rather denote the presence of at least one of the referenced item.

The present disclosure provides a multipurpose exercising device capable of being held by a user's hand for performing a multitude of exercises. Also, the multipurpose exercising device may be used in conjunction with at least one weight member for performing a multitude of exercises. The term ‘at least one weight member’ as used herein refers to weight plates, weight machines carrying weight plates, fitness equipments, and the like. Using embodiments of the device described herein, any or all of a user's hands, fingers, and forearms may be worked alone or in conjunction with other muscle groups, depending on the exercise performed.

Referring to FIG. 1, one embodiment of a multipurpose exercising device 1000 is shown. The multipurpose exercising device 1000 may include a base portion 100. The base portion 100 may include a flat surface 110. Further, the base portion 100 may include an opening 120 configured on the flat surface 110.

In one form, the base portion 100 may have a circular shape and may be made of a lightweight, sturdy material, such as a urethane rubber material. However, the base portion 100 may instead have other shapes, such as polygonal shapes and oval shape, and may be made of other suitable materials. The above mentioned material and shape of the base portion 100 may not be considered as limiting the scope of the present disclosure.

Referring now to FIGS. 1 and 2, the multipurpose exercising device 1000 may include a tapered portion 200 extending from the base portion 100. The tapered portion 200 may include a first gripping surface 220. The tapered portion 200 may also include a second gripping surface 210 extending from the first gripping surface. The first gripping surface 220 may include a plurality of grooves, such as grooves 230, 240, 250, 260, 270 extending between the second gripping surface 210 and the base portion 100. The grooves 230, 240, 250, 260, 270 may extend from the second gripping surface 210 along the first gripping surface 220 and toward the base portion 100.

In the particular embodiment just described, first gripping surface 220 may have five grooves formed therealong for accommodating associated fingers of a user's hand. Alternatively, the first gripping surface 220 may have any desired number of grooves formed therealong, and grooves may be formed along one or more portions of the exterior of first gripping surface 220 or along the entire exterior of first gripping surface 220.

In one form, the tapered portion 200 may be a frustum shaped structure and may be made of a lightweight, sturdy material, such as a urethane rubber material. However, the tapered portion 200 may instead have other shapes, for example an elongated cylindrical structure or an elongated cuboidal structure, and may be made of other suitable materials. The above mentioned material and shape of the tapered portion 200 of the multipurpose exercising device 1000 should not be considered as limiting. Further, it may be apparent that in the present embodiment the base portion 100 and the tapered portion 200 may be constructed as a single unitary structure.

Referring to FIG. 3, the multipurpose exercising device 1000, in one form may include a weight supporting member 300 operatively coupled to base portion 100 to permit mounting of a weight thereon. In one embodiment, the base portion 100 includes an internally threaded hollow member 130 adapted to be carried in the opening 120, and the weight supporting member 300 includes a threaded rod 310 capable of being threadably carried by the internally threaded hollow member 130. The threaded rod 310 may include a first end portion 320 and a second end portion 330. The first end portion 320 may be adapted to be engaged within the internally threaded hollow member 130. Further, the supporting member 300 may include a detachable collar 340 capable of being threadably engaged with the threaded rod 310.

In another embodiment, the weight supporting member 300 includes a rod having a portion molded into base portion 100. The molded-in rod may be threaded rod 310, facilitating engagement with detachable collar 340 as previously described, or the rod may include another feature (for example, a through hole for positioning a pin therein) enabling securement of a weight member 10 to the weight supporting member 300, as described below. Other suitable methods of securing the rod to the base portion and of securing the weight plate 10 to the base portion 100 are also contemplated.

Referring to FIG. 4, the multipurpose exercising device 1000, in another form may include an engagement member 400 capable of being threadably carried by an internally threaded hollow member 130 as previously described. The engagement member 400 may include an attachment component 410 having a first end (not shown) and a second end 420. The first end may be adapted to be threadably received in the internally threaded hollow member 130. Further, the engagement member 400 may include a cord 430 attached with the second end 420 of the attachment component 410.

In use, the multipurpose exercising device 1000 may be capable of being held by a user's hand (not shown) for performing a multitude of exercises. For example, a palm of the user's hand may be positioned on the first gripping surface 220 and fingers may be capable of being received in the grooves 230, 240, 250, 260, 270 of the second gripping surface 210. Specifically, the groove 230 may be adapted to receive a thumb of the user's hand and the grooves 240, 250, 260, 270 may be adapted to receive an index finger, a middle finger, a ring finger, and a little finger, respectively. It may be apparent that the multipurpose exercising device 1000 may be available either as a single unit for performing a multitude of exercises with a single hand one at a time or as a pair for performing a multitude of exercises with both the hands at the same time. The user may be able to perform multitude of exercises such as push-ups, free weight exercises and the like.

Further, the user may perform weight lifting exercises with the help of the multipurpose exercising device 1000. The supporting member 300 may be attached with the base portion 100 for performing multitude of exercises. Specifically, the first end portion 320 of the threaded rod 310 may be threadably attached in the internally threaded hollow member 130. The second end portion 330 may be adapted to carry at least one weight member, such as a weight plate 10, as shown in FIG. 5. Specifically, the second end portion 330 may be adapted to be received in an aperture (not shown) of the weight plate 10. Once the second end portion 330 may be received in the aperture of the weight plate 10, the detachable collar 340 may be threadably engaged with the threaded rod 310 from the second end portion 330 of the threaded rod 310, to secure weight plate 10 between the detachable collar 340 and the base portion 100. Thereafter, the user may employ the multipurpose exercising device 1000 for performing various exercises such as biceps curl, triceps extension, forearm exercises, shoulder exercises, and the like. The user may be able to perform isotonic, isometric and plyometric exercises. It will be apparent that a plurality of weight plates may be stacked on or otherwise secured to the base portion 100 of the multipurpose exercising device 1000 for performing weight lifting exercises with varying weights. It will also be apparent that rod 310 may have any length suitable for accommodating any desired number of weight plates mounted therealong.

Furthermore, the multipurpose exercising device 1000 may be used in conjunction with a conventional weight machine (not shown), such as a stack machine, for performing exercises. The multipurpose exercising device 1000 may be attached with the conventional weight machine with the help of the engagement member 400. Specifically, the first end of the attachment component 410 may be detachably carried by the internally threaded hollow member 130 and the cord 430 attached to the second end 420 may be adapted to be removably engageable with a cable (not shown) of the conventional weight machine. Once the multipurpose exercising device 1000 has been attached to the cable of the conventional weight machine, the user may grip the multipurpose exercising device 1000 by gripping the second gripping surface 210 and the first gripping surface 220 with the palm and the fingers respectively, and, thereafter perform various exercises on the conventional weight machine.

Further, the palm, forearm and fingers of user are conditioned when exercising with the multipurpose exercising device 1000. Specifically, when exercising, the second gripping surface 210 provides conditioning to the palms of the user. The first gripping surface 220 provides conditioning to the fingers of the user. When the gripping surfaces are squeezed and/or the muscles of the hands and forearms are contracted, the forearms will be conditioned.

Additionally, it may be apparent that a pair of the multipurpose exercising device, such as the multipurpose exercising device 1000, may be employed to perform multitude of exercises.

The multipurpose exercising device, such as the multipurpose exercising device 1000, may be beneficial for performing multitude of exercises. Further, the multipurpose exercising device may be helpful for conditioning of a user's forearm, hand, palm, and fingers. Furthermore, the multipurpose exercising device may be employed to perform multitude of exercises for exercising different parts of the body thereby precluding a need for different exercising apparatuses for performing multitude of exercises. Also, the multipurpose exercising device may be simple in construction, portable and easy to use. Additionally, the multipurpose exercising device of the present disclosure may find its utility at a multitude of places such as, homes and commercial places, such as gymnasiums, rehabilitation or physical therapy centers and the like.

The foregoing descriptions of specific embodiments of the present disclosure have been presented for purposes of illustration and description. They are not intended to be exhaustive or to limit the present disclosure to the precise forms disclosed, and obviously many modifications and variations are possible in light of the above teaching. The embodiments were chosen and described in order to best explain the principles of the present disclosure and its practical application, and to thereby enable others skilled in the art to best utilize the present disclosure and various embodiments with various modifications as are suited to the particular use contemplated. It is understood that various omissions and substitutions of equivalents are contemplated as circumstances may suggest or render expedient, but such omissions and substitutions are intended to cover the application or implementation without departing from the spirit or scope of the claims of the present disclosure.

Claims

1. A multipurpose exercising device comprising:

a base portion; and
a tapered portion extending from the base portion and having a first gripping surface adapted to be secured by fingers of a user's hand.

2. The multipurpose exercising device of claim 1, wherein the first gripping surface of the tapered portion comprises a plurality of grooves for receiving therein the fingers of the user's hand.

3. The multipurpose exercising device of claim 1, further comprising an internally threaded hollow member configured in an opening of the base portion.

4. The multipurpose exercising device of claim 13 further comprising a supporting member threadably coupled to the internally threaded hollow member so as to enable the supporting member to support at least one weight member mounted thereon.

5. The multipurpose exercising device of claim 4, wherein the supporting member comprises,

a threaded rod comprising a first end portion and a second end portion, the first end portion being engaegeable with the internally threaded hollow member, and
a detachable collar,
wherein the at least one weight member is receivable onto the threaded rod and wherein the detachable collar is threadably engageable with the threaded rod to secure the at least one weight member along the rod.

6. The multipurpose exercising device of claim 11, wherein the at least one weight member is a weight plate.

7. The multipurpose exercising device of claim 3, further comprising an engagement member threadably carried by the internally threaded hollow member, the engagement member capable of engaging at least one weight member.

8. The multipurpose exercising device of claim 7, wherein the engagement member comprises,

an attachment component having a first end and a second end, the first end being capable of being received in the internally threaded hollow member, and
a cord carried by the second end, the cord being capable of removably engaging the at least one weight member.

9. The multipurpose exercising device of claim 7, wherein the at least one weight member is one of a weight machine and a fitness equipment.

10. The multipurpose exercising device of claim 1 further comprising a second gripping surface adapted to be received in a palm of the user's hand.

11. The multipurpose exercising device of claim 5 further comprising at least one weight member secured along the rod.

12. The multipurpose exercising device of claim 1, further comprising a weight supporting member operatively coupled to the base portion.

13. The multipurpose exercising device of claim 12, further comprising an internally threaded hollow member configured in an opening of the base portion, and wherein the weight supporting member is threadably coupled to the internally threaded hollow member so as to enable the supporting member to support at least one weight member mounted thereon.

14. The multipurpose exercising device of claim 12, wherein the weight supporting member is molded to the base portion.
