A crossbow has a body and a bow. The body has a mounting recess and a percussion device. The percussion device is mounted in the mounting recess and has an outer casing, a safety device and a trigger. The outer casing is mounted in the mounting recess and has an arrow groove, a holding frame and a limiting block. The arrow groove is formed through the outer casing and extends out of the body. The holding frame is connected to the outer casing. The limiting block is connected to the outer casing. The safety device is connected to the outer casing and has a moving mount and a safety catch. The moving mount is mounted in the outer casing. The safety catch is connected to the moving mount. The trigger is connected to the outer casing. The bow is mounted on the body and has two limbs and a string.

Description
BACKGROUND OF THE INVENTION

1. Field of Invention

The present invention relates to a crossbow, and more particularly to a crossbow that can be operated safely.

2. Description of the Related Art

A conventional crossbow has a body and a bow. The body has a front end, a rear end, a stock and a percussion device 50 as shown in FIGS. 8 and 9. The stock is formed on the rear end of the body and has a front side. The bow is mounted on the front end of the body and has two limbs and a string 60. The limbs are connected to the front end of the body and each limb has a distal end. The string 60 is extended between the distal ends of the limbs. The percussion device 50 is mounted in the body at the front side of the stock and has an outer casing 51, a safety catch 52 and a trigger 53. The outer casing 51 is securely mounted in the body at the front side of the stock and has a front side, a rear side, a bottom and an arrow groove 511. The arrow groove 511 is transversally formed through the front side of the outer casing 51 at a position out of the body. The safety catch 52 is movably mounted in the rear side of the outer casing 51 and has a front end and a holding frame 521. The holding frame 521 is pivotally connected to the front end of the safety catch 52 and selectively extends into the arrow groove 511 of the outer casing 51 to hold the string 60. The trigger 53 is pivotally connected to the bottom of the outer casing 51 below the safety catch 52. The trigger 53 selectively abuts the safety catch 52 and has a free end extended out of the body.

When the conventional crossbow in used, with further reference to FIG. 9, the string 60 is stretched backward into the arrow groove 511 for shooting an arrow and the safety catch 52 is pulled backward to lock at a safe condition and to make the holding frame 521 extend into the arrow groove 511 to hold the string 60 at the same time. Then, a rear end of an arrow can be inserted into the arrow groove 511 ahead of the string 60. With reference to FIG. 10, when the safety catch 52 is pulled forward at a fire condition, the trigger 53 can be pivotally pressed relative to the outer casing 51. When the free end of the trigger 53 is pulled, the holding frame 521 will move out of the arrow groove 511 to allow the string 60 push and shoot the arrow out of the body of the conventional crossbow.

The percussion device 50 of the conventional crossbow can shoot an arrow out of the body and the safety catch 52 can be moved at a save condition to lock the trigger 53. When the string 60 is stretched and held in the arrow groove 511 of the outer casing 51 by the holding frame 521 as shown in FIG. 9, the string 60 may be shot out of the outer casing 51 before an arrow being inserted into the arrow groove 511 of the outer casing 51 if the safety catch 52 is pulled at the fire condition and this is very dangerous for a user or people around the conventional crossbow.

To overcome the shortcomings, the present invention provides a crossbow to mitigate or obviate the aforementioned problems.

SUMMARY OF THE INVENTION

The primary objective of the present invention is to provide a crossbow that can be operated safely.

The crossbow in accordance with the present invention has a body and a bow. The body has a stock, a mounting recess and a percussion device. The percussion device is securely mounted in the mounting recess and has an outer casing, a safety device and a trigger. The outer casing is securely mounted in the mounting recess and has an arrow groove, a holding frame and a limiting block. The arrow groove is transversally formed through a front side of the outer casing and extends out of the body. The holding frame is pivotally connected to the front side of the outer casing. The limiting block is pivotally connected to a top of the outer casing in the arrow groove over the top end of the holding frame. The safety device is movably connected to the outer casing behind the arrow groove and has a moving mount and a safety catch. The moving mount is movably mounted in the outer casing behind the arrow groove. The safety catch is securely and transversally connected to a front end of the moving mount and has two ends respectively extended out of the arrow groove of the outer casing. The trigger is pivotally connected to the outer casing below the safety device. The bow is mounted on a front end of the body and has two limbs and a string.

Other objectives, advantages and novel features of the invention will become more apparent from the following detailed description when taken in conjunction with the accompanying drawings.

DETAILED DESCRIPTION OF THE INVENTION

With reference to FIGS. 1 to 4, a crossbow in accordance with the present invention comprises a body 10 and a bow 20.

The body 10 has a front end, a rear end, a stock 11, a mounting recess 111 and a percussion device 12. The stock 11 is formed on the rear end of the body 10. The mounting recess 111 is formed through the body 10 near the stock 11.

The percussion device 12 is securely mounted in the mounting recess 111 of the body 10 and has an outer casing 13, a safety device 14 and a trigger 15.

The outer casing 13 is securely mounted in the mounting recess 111 of the body 10 and has a front side, a rear side, a top, a bottom, two sidewalls, an arrow groove 131, a holding frame 16, a limiting block 17 and a positioning assembly 18. The arrow groove 131 is transversally formed through the front side of the outer casing 13 at a position extending out of the body 10. The holding frame 16 is pivotally connected to the front side of the outer casing 13 by a pin, extends into the arrow groove 131 and has a top end, a rear side and at least one torsional spring 161. The top end of the holding frame 16 extends backward into the arrow groove 131 of the outer casing 13. The at least one torsional spring 161 is connected to the front side of the outer casing 13 at a position ahead of the holding frame 16 and presses against the holding frame 16 to make the top end of the holding frame 16 extend backward into the arrow groove 131.

The limiting block 17 is pivotally connected to the top of the outer casing 13 in the arrow groove 131 over the top end of the holding frame 16 and has a front end, a rear end, a bottom surface, a top surface, an abutting bar 171 and a pressing spring 172. The front end of the limiting block 17 is pivotally connected to top of the outer casing 13. The abutting bar 171 is transversally formed on and protrudes from the bottom surface of the limiting block 17 at the front end. The pressing spring 172 is mounted on the top of the outer casing 13 and presses against the rear end of the limiting block 17 to make the rear end of the limiting block 17 extend into the arrow groove 131.

The positioning assembly 18 is movably mounted in the outer casing 13 and has a positioning spring 181 and a ball 182. The positioning spring 181 is mounted in the top of the outer casing 13 near the rear side of the outer casing 13. The ball 182 is pressed by the positioning spring 181 in the outer casing 13.

The safety device 14 is movably connected to the outer casing 13 behind the arrow groove 131 and has a moving mount 141 and a safety catch 142. The moving mount 141 is movably mounted in the outer casing 13 behind the arrow groove 131. The moving mount 141 abuts positioning assembly 18 and has a front end, a rear end, a top surface, a bottom surface, two opposite sides, two positioning recesses 143, an elongated groove 144 and multiple guiding rods 145. The front end of the moving mount 141 selectively abuts the rear end of the limiting block 17. The positioning recesses 143 are formed on the top surface of the moving mount 141 at an interval and selectively engage the ball 182 of the positioning assembly 18. The elongated groove 144 is transversally formed through the opposite sides of the moving mount 141 between the front end and the rear end of the moving mount 141. The guiding rods 145 are transversally connected to the sidewalls of the outer casing 13 and are mounted in the elongated groove 144 of the moving mount 141. The safety catch 142 is securely and transversally connected to the front end of the moving mount 141 and has two ends respectively extended out of the arrow groove 131 of the outer casing 13.

The trigger 15 is pivotally connected to the outer casing 13 below the safety device 14 and has a top end, a bottom end and a front side. The top end of the trigger 15 abuts the bottom surface of the moving mount 141. The bottom end of the trigger 15 extends out of the body 10 via the bottom of the outer casing 13. The front side of the trigger 15 is mounted in the outer casing 13 and selectively abuts the rear side of the holding frame 16.

The bow 20 is mounted on the front end of the body 10 and has two limbs 21 and a string 22. The limbs 21 are connected to the front end of the body 10 and each limb 21 has a distal end. The string 22 is extended between the distal ends of the limbs 21.

With further reference to FIG. 4, when the crossbow in accordance with the present invention is in use, the rear end of the limiting block 17 is pressed against by the front end of the moving mount 141 with a force provided by the pressing spring 172 to avoid the safety device 14 moving relative to the outer casing 13 and the bottom surface of the moving mount 141 abuts the top end of the trigger 15. Thus, the trigger 15 cannot be pivotally pulled relative to the outer casing 13, and the percussion device is at a safe condition. With further reference to FIG. 5, the string 22 is stretched backward into the arrow groove 131 of the outer casing 13 and is held securely by the rear side of the holding frame 16 with the force provided by the at least one torsional spring 161, and with the rear side of the holding frame 16 abutting against the front side of the trigger 15.

With reference to FIG. 6, after the string 22 is held in the arrow groove 131 of the outer casing 13 by the holding frame 16, a rear end of an arrow 40 can be inserted into the arrow groove 131 ahead of the holding frame 16 to push the abutting bar 171 of the limiting block 17. Then, the limiting block 17 will be pivotally rotated relative the outer casing 13 to press the pressing spring 172 and to separate the rear end of the limiting block 17 from the front end of the moving mount 141.

With reference to FIG. 7, when the rear end of the limiting block 17 is separated from the front end of the moving mount 141, the moving mount 141 can be move forward along the arrow groove 131 by pushing the safety catch 142 and the bottom surface of the moving mount 141 will be separated from the top end of the trigger 15. Thus, the trigger 15 is set at a fire condition and can be pulled pivotally relative to the outer casing 13 to shoot the arrow 40 out of the crossbow with the force provided by the string 22. During the above-mentioned movement and operation of the moving mount 141, the moving mount 141 can be stably moved forward along the arrow groove 131 and relative to the outer casing 13 by the guiding rods 145 mounting in the elongated groove 144 of the moving mount 141. In addition, the moving mount 141 can be stably held in the arrow groove 131 of the outer casing 13 at the safe or fire condition by the ball 182 of the positioning assembly 18 engaging one of the positioning recesses 143.

Therefore, before an arrow 40 is inserted into the arrow groove 131 to make the limiting block 17 rotate and separate from the moving mount 141, the top end of the trigger 15 is kept abutting the bottom surface of the moving mount 141 and cannot be pulled to release the string 22 out of the crossbow and this can prevent the user or people around the crossbow from getting hurt by the string 22. Consequently, the crossbow in accordance with the present invention can be used safely with the percussion device 12 of the body 10.

Even though numerous characteristics and advantages of the present invention have been set forth in the foregoing description, together with details of the structure and function of the invention, the disclosure is illustrative only. Changes may be made in detail, especially in matters of shape, size and arrangement of parts within the principles of the invention to the full extent indicated by the broad general meaning of the terms in which the appended claims are expressed.

Claims

1. A crossbow comprising

a body having a front end; a rear end; a stock formed on the rear end of the body; a mounting recess formed through the body near the stock; and a percussion device securely mounted in the mounting recess of the body and having an outer casing securely mounted in the mounting recess of the body and having a front side; a rear side; a top; a bottom; two sidewalls; an arrow groove transversally formed through the front side of the outer casing at a position extending out of the body; a holding frame pivotally connected to the front side of the outer casing, extending into the arrow groove and having a top end extending backward into the arrow groove of the outer casing; and a rear side; and a limiting block pivotally connected to the top of the outer casing in the arrow groove over the top end of the holding frame and having a front end pivotally connected to top of the outer casing; a rear end; a bottom surface; and a top surface; a safety device movably connected to the outer casing behind the arrow groove and having a moving mount movably mounted in the outer casing behind the arrow groove and having a front end selectively abutting the rear end of the limiting block; a rear end; a top surface; a bottom surface; and two opposite sides; and a safety catch securely and transversally connected to the front end of the moving mount and having two ends respectively extended out of the arrow groove of the outer casing; and a trigger pivotally connected to the outer casing below the safety device and having a top end abutting the bottom surface of the moving mount; a bottom end extending out of the body via the bottom of the outer casing; and a front side mounted in the outer casing and selectively abutting the rear side of the holding frame; and
a bow mounted on the front end of the body and having two limbs connected to the front end of the body and each limb having a distal end; and a string extending between the distal ends of the limbs.

2. The crossbow as claimed in claim 1, wherein the limiting block has an abutting bar transversally formed on and protruding from the bottom surface of the limiting block at the front end of the limiting block; and

a pressing spring mounted on the top of the outer casing and pressing against the rear end of the limiting block to make the rear end of the limiting block extend into the arrow groove.

The crossbow as claimed in claim 2, wherein the holding frame has at least one torsional spring connected to the front side of the outer casing at a position ahead of the holding frame and pressing against the holding frame to make the top end of the holding frame extend backward into the arrow groove.

4. The crossbow as claimed in claim 3, wherein

the moving mount has two positioning recesses formed on the top surface of the moving mount at an interval; and
the outer casing has a positioning assembly movably mounted in the outer casing and having a positioning spring mounted in the top of the outer casing near the rear side of the outer casing; and a ball pressed by the positioning spring in the outer casing and selectively engaging one of the positioning recesses of the moving mount.

5. The crossbow as claimed in claim 4, wherein the moving mount has

an elongated groove transversally formed through the opposite sides of the moving mount between the front end and the rear end of the moving mount; and
multiple guiding rods transversally connected to the sidewalls of the outer casing and are mounted in the elongated groove of the moving mount.

6. The crossbow as claimed in claim 1, wherein

the moving mount has two positioning recesses formed on the top surface of the moving mount at an interval; and
the outer casing has a positioning assembly movably mounted in the outer casing and having a positioning spring mounted in the top of the outer casing near the rear side of the outer casing; and a ball pressed by the positioning spring in the outer casing and selectively abutting one of the positioning recesses of the moving mount.

7. The crossbow as claimed in claim 1, wherein the moving mount has

an elongated groove transversally formed through the opposite sides of the moving mount between the front end and the rear end of the moving mount; and
multiple guiding rods transversally connected to the sidewalls of the outer casing and are mounted in the elongated groove of the moving mount.

8. The crossbow as claimed in claim 1, wherein the holding frame has at least one torsional spring connected to the front side of the outer casing ahead the holding frame and pressed against the holding frame to allow the top end of the holding frame extend backward into the arrow groove.

9. The crossbow as claimed in claim 8, wherein

the moving mount has two positioning recesses formed on the top surface of the moving mount at an interval; and
the outer casing has a positioning assembly movably mounted in the outer casing and having
a positioning spring mounted in the top of the outer casing near the rear side of the outer casing; and
a ball pressed by the positioning spring in the outer casing and selectively abutting one of the positioning recesses of the moving mount.

10. The crossbow as claimed in claim 9, wherein the moving mount has

an elongated groove transversally formed through the opposite sides of the moving mount between the front end and the rear end of the moving mount; and
multiple guiding rods transversally connected to the sidewalls of the outer casing and are mounted in the elongated groove of the moving mount.
