The disclosure relates to luggage devices and more particularly pertains to a new luggage device for carrying personal items within a closed compartment and providing an extendable platform to facilitate transporting additional items.

SUMMARY OF THE DISCLOSURE

An embodiment of the disclosure meets the needs presented above by generally comprising a container having a bottom panel, a top panel, and a perimeter wall coupled to and extending between the bottom panel and the top panel defining an interior space of the container. A plurality of container wheels is coupled to the container to support the container on a support surface when the container is in a transport position. A handle is coupled to and extendable from the container such that the handle may be grasped while the container is in the transport position. A platform is coupled to the container and selectively extendable from the container for supporting extrinsic items to the container in a position adjacent to the container. Thus, the extrinsic items are transportable with the container by manipulation of the handle while the container is in the transport position.

There has thus been outlined, rather broadly, the more important features of the disclosure in order that the detailed description thereof that follows may be better understood, and in order that the present contribution to the art may be better appreciated. There are additional features of the disclosure that will be described hereinafter and which will form the subject matter of the claims appended hereto.

The objects of the disclosure, along with the various features of novelty which characterize the disclosure, are pointed out with particularity in the claims annexed to and forming a part of this disclosure.

BRIEF DESCRIPTION OF THE DRAWINGS

The disclosure will be better understood and objects other than those set forth above will become apparent when consideration is given to the following detailed description thereof. Such description makes reference to the annexed drawings wherein:

FIG. 1 is a top back side perspective view of a luggage and cart assembly according to an embodiment of the disclosure.

FIG. 2 is a front view of an embodiment of the disclosure.

FIG. 3 is a bottom view of an embodiment of the disclosure.

FIG. 4 is a side view of an embodiment of the disclosure.

FIG. 5 is a cross-sectional view of an embodiment of the disclosure taken along line 5-5 of FIG. 4.

DESCRIPTION OF THE PREFERRED EMBODIMENT

With reference now to the drawings, and in particular to FIGS. 1 through 5 thereof, a new luggage device embodying the principles and concepts of an embodiment of the disclosure and generally designated by the reference numeral 10 will be described.

As best illustrated in FIGS. 1 through 5, the luggage and cart assembly 10 generally comprises a container 12 having a bottom panel 14, a top panel 16, and a perimeter wall 18 coupled to and extending between said bottom panel 14 and the top panel 16 defining an interior space 20 of the container 12. The top panel 16 is pivotally coupled to the perimeter wall 18 wherein the top panel 16 selectively covers the interior space 20 as desired. A plurality of container wheels 22 is coupled to the container 12 wherein the container 12 is configured to be supported on a support surface 24 by the container wheels 22 when the container 12 is in a transport position 26. Each of the container wheels 22 is rotatably coupled to the container 12 wherein each container wheel 22 swivels up to a full three hundred sixty degrees relative to the container 12. A handle 28 is coupled to the container 12. The handle 28 is extended from the container 12 wherein the handle 28 is configured to be grasped while the container 12 is in the transport position 26. The handle 28 may be telescopic and selectively extendable from and retractable towards the container 12.

A platform 30 is coupled to the container 12. The platform 30 is selectively extendable from the container 12 wherein the platform 30 is configured for supporting extrinsic items 32 such as additional bags or luggage to the container 12 in a position adjacent to the container 12. Thus, the extrinsic items 32 are transportable with the container 12 by manipulation of the handle 28 while the container 12 is in the transport position 26. A pair of spaced rails 42,44 is coupled to a side 46 of the perimeter wall 18 of the container 12. The platform 30 is slidably inserted between the rails 42,44. A bottom support wall 66 may extend between the side rails 42,44 to further stabilize the assembly 10. The side 46 of the perimeter wall 18 may be a short side and the perimeter wall 18 relative to opposed longitudinal sides 56 of the perimeter wall 18.

An elongated slot 48 extends through the platform 30 proximate a distal edge 40 of the platform 30 relative to the container 12 when the platform 30 is in an extended position 50. The elongated slot 48 is configured for receiving fingers therethrough wherein the slot 50 defines a grip 52 positioned in the platform 30 adjacent to the distal edge 40 of the platform 30.

A plurality of platform wheels 34 is coupled to the platform 30. The platform wheels 34 are adjacent to respective corners 36,38 at the distal edge 40 of the platform 30. The platform wheels 34 are further positioned such that the platform wheels 34 are supported on the support surface 24 when the container 12 is in the transport position 26. Each of the platform wheels 34 is coupled to the platform 30 in a fixed direction of rotation aligned with a direction the platform 30 extends from the container 12.

In use, the container 12 is used as conventional luggage. When needed, the platform 30 may be extended from the container 12 and used to support additional baggage or other items 32 being transported. The handle 28 is grasped and the container 12 is manipulated to a desired position while the platform 30 supports the additional items 32.

With respect to the above description then, it is to be realized that the optimum dimensional relationships for the parts of an embodiment enabled by the disclosure, to include variations in size, materials, shape, form, function and manner of operation, assembly and use, are deemed readily apparent and obvious to one skilled in the art, and all equivalent relationships to those illustrated in the drawings and described in the specification are intended to be encompassed by an embodiment of the disclosure.

Therefore, the foregoing is considered as illustrative only of the principles of the disclosure. Further, since numerous modifications and changes will readily occur to those skilled in the art, it is not desired to limit the disclosure to the exact construction and operation shown and described, and accordingly, all suitable modifications and equivalents may be resorted to, falling within the scope of the disclosure.
