“C” shaped, Wedge, Nursing Pillow is disclosed. This nursing pillow combines the “C” shape for security; the wedge form to prevent acid reflux in infants; and firm foam to keep the baby's head at breast height and prevent back pain from slouching.

BACKGROUND OF THE INVENTION

1. Problem Solved

This invention solves problems associated with breast feeding and bottle feeding. It facilitates proper posture, preventing back pain. It helps prevent and manage acid reflux in infants. It helps maintain the baby at a height to facilitate a proper latch for optimum breast feeding. It prevents the common problem of a nursing pillow flattening out, and slipping away. Other devices are too flat; they slip away from the nursing mother; they break down; they're awkward to use.

BRIEF SUMMARY OF THE INVENTION

The invention claimed is a “C” shaped, wedge nursing pillow with a firm foam core topped with memory foam. This invention will facilitate an optimum breastfeeding position for both mom and baby, by positioning baby at breast level for proper latch, as well as allowing the nursing mother to maintain proper posture. The incline of the wedge helps to prevent or manage infant acid reflux. The firm foam core ensures that the pillow will not break down and flatten out over time. The memory foam provides a plush place for baby to nestle, and for the arms of the nursing mother, or one bottle feeding an infant, to rest.

DETAILED DESCRIPTION OF THE INVENTION

This invention combines the “C” shape into a wedge form. It has a firm foam core, with a small layer of memory foam on both sides. The “C” shape of this pillow is designed to fit securely around the waist of the nursing mother, or another person that is bottle feeding an infant. The wedge shape of the pillow keeps the baby nursing at an incline to prevent acid reflux. The firmness of the foam keeps the pillow at the proper height, without sinking down, so that the nursing mother may keep proper posture. The memory foam layer allows the baby, and the mother's arms, to nestle into the pillow to provide a feeling of comfort and security. The wedge is designed to flip from side to side so that the nursing mother may evenly utilize both breasts for feeding. The height of the highest side of the pillow allows baby to nurse at breast level. This height, coupled with the firmness of the foam, helps to prevent the back pain associated with having to slouch while nursing. The sides of the pillow, provide generous arm support so that one does not need an armchair to feed their baby.

The claimed invention differs from what currently exists. It solves the most common breast feeding problems that other nursing pillows do not entirely address. Other devices are either too flat, too soft, or lack stability. Other devices which contain loose stuffing, flatten out over time. Other “C” shaped pillows are horizontal, which does not allow for incline feeding. Other wedge shaped pillows lack the “C” shape, and therefore will not stay sufficiently close to the nursing mother. Rather, they slide away during feeding. This invention solves these problems.

Relationship Between The Components:

The pillow is constructed of item number 1, with a layer of item number 2, on either side. The pillow is simultaneously in the form of item's number 3 and 4. The pillow is covered by item number 5, and then also by item number 6. Item number 7 is installed on both item numbers 5 and 6 to enable it to fit over the pillow.

How The Invention Works:

All features of the pillow are integral to the function of the pillow. There are not any moving parts.

How To Make The Invention:

One would take a piece of firm foam with the greatest overall dimensions. The “C” would then be cut out. The pillow would then be tapered equally on both sides, from one end to the other to achieve the specified measurements, depending on the pillows given size. The pillow would then have layers of memory foam, with the “C” cut out, adhered to either side. All of the corners of the pillow would then be rounded with the appropriate radius, depending on the pillows given size. The pillow would then be inserted into the inner protective case cover with the required law tags, and subsequently inserted into the decorative outer pillow case cover.

The only optional element is the outer, decorative pillow case cover. All other elements are absolutely necessary.

The dimensions, types of foam used, and overall shape could be varied and still yield the same result.

How To Use The Invention:

A nursing mother, or one that is bottle feeding an infant would simply lay the pillow in their lap, allowing the “C” to curve around their waist. The person feeding the infant would lay the baby on the platform of the nursing pillow, with the baby's head on the higher end of the pillow. When ready, a nursing mother will flip the pillow over the other direction. The pillow provides proper firmness, height, angle, security, and comfort. Since the infant is at breast height, the nursing mother is able to keep correct posture. When the pillow is in the lap, the angle increases to allow an infant to nurse or bottle feed at an incline to prevent or help manage acid reflux.

1. A “C” shaped, wedge article comprising: The polyurethane foam of claim 1, may be substituted for an eco friendly soy, or latex foam. The memory foam in claim 1, may be substituted for an eco friendly latex foam.

a firm, furniture grade, polyurethane foam; and
a one inch layer of polyurethane memory foam on either side.
