  • Patent number: 4007691
Abstract: A smoke marker for indicating the location of a target drone. An aluminum tube with one open end and one closed end contains a polyethylene bottle filled with titanium tetrachloride, a smoke chemical. The bottle is held in place within the tube by means of set screws adjacent the bottle's neck. A nylon washer containing an explosive primer and a metallic disc are disposed between the bottle and the closed end of the tube. The open end of the tube is potted closed with styrofoam potting. Upon ignition, the explosive primer forces the copper disc to collapse the bottom of the bottle. The neck of the bottle shears and the titanium tetrachloride is expelled from the aluminum tube and the bottle, creating a 25 to 30 foot cloud of smoke.

  • Patent number: 4007696
Abstract: A solid fuel conversion furnace for breaking down solid fuel into its two basic combustible components, combustible gases and combustible solids, prior to ignition. This is achieved by preheating the solid fuel when it is not in the presence of a combustion supporting atmosphere. This preheating of the solid fuel is achieved through the use of a heat exchange compartment where the hot exhaust gases transfer their heat through the heat exchange wall to preheat the solid fuel in the fuel compartment. The hot exhaust gases are obtained from the ignition of the combustible gases and the combustible solids in the presence of oxygen. This ignition occurs in the fire box area which is below the fuel compartment. The combustible solids are gravity fed to the fire box and the combustible gases are fed to the fire box by both their self-generated pressure and the furnace exhaust draft.

  • Patent number: 4007710
Abstract: A check valve designed for incorporation in a milk line of large milking systems is comprised of a vertical tubular member having an outlet tube of smaller bore extending laterally therefrom at right angles thereto and a spherical valve element within the vertical member having a diameter considerably less than the bore of said member and greater than the bore of the outlet tube. The vertical tube extends above the discharge outlet a distance equal to the diameter of the valve element, is sealed at its upper end, and receives the valve element therein when milk is pumped through the lower end and out of the outlet tube. A horizontally extending circular valve seat is carried by the lower end portion of the vertical tubular member closely adjacent to the outlet tube and cooperates with the valve element to prevent return flow of milk from the outlet tube when pumping through the line ceases.

  • Patent number: 4007716
Abstract: An arrangement for rotating a valve of a reciprocating internal combustion engine relative to the valve seat in addition to the normal reciprocating motion of the valve, whereby to more evenly distribute wear on the valve and on the valve seat, and, in the case of an exhaust valve, to more uniformly distribute heating of the valve and thus avoid or minimize thermal distortion of the exhaust valve. The rotation of the valve is obtained by use of the well known principle in accordance with which the central longitudinal axis of the valve lifter is offset from the central plane (as measured in the lengthwise dimension of the cam shaft) of the rotating cam which imparts reciprocatory movement to the valve lifter and thus to the valve. The offset relation just described imparts a rotary movement to the valve lifter which, in turn, imparts a rotary movement to the valve during the period of cam rotation when the valve is lifted off the valve seat.

Abstract: An apparatus for the detoxification of exhaust gases of an internal combustion engine having a fuel metering mechanism, such as a carburetor, which meters out fuel corresponding to the air quantity, is described. An air quantity measuring device is provided which controls the metering mechanism so as to achieve a slightly enriched fuel-air mixture. Thus, the air number (.lambda.) is initially maintained at less than 1, the air number 1 designating a stoichiometric fuel-air mixture. Secondary air is admitted via a secondary air pump, an oxygen sensor being disposed on the exhaust side, until such time an optimum of fuel-air mixture is reached. • Patent number: 4007731
Abstract: Neonates are tested for hearing deficiencies. A printed record is made of changes in heart beat rate in response to various sound stimuli. Relevant information such as heart beat rate, frequency of the stimulating sound, intensity of the stimulating sound, and related clock information is printed out in digital form. In a modification, changes in time between heart beats are extrapolated so that, in effect, changes in heart beat rate may be quickly determined on a go-no-go basis. These tests are particularly useful on infants under the age of eight months so that corrective measures may be taken prior to expiration of a critical period of development in the infant's life.

  • Patent number: 4007732
Abstract: X-ray techniques are used to detect early evidence of breast cancer. When such evidence is found, a target is implanted in the suspect area while the patient is being x-rayed. The target has an attached line which leads from the target out through the skin of the patient. A biopsy is made with a cutting tool guided on the line attached to the target, thereby obtaining a biopsy specimen accurately centered on the suspect area.

  • Patent number: 4007734
Abstract: A blood pressure indicator adapted for self-examination includes a blood pressure arm cuff having an inflatable bladder, and a pair of pressure sensing switches impinging on the bladder and set to audibly or visually indicate the maximum systolic and diastolic pressure permissible. The bladder is inflatable by a flexible bulb connected thereto through a hose and a unidirectional flow valve which maintains inflation of the bladder. As air leaks out of the bladder, the patient notes when the pulse returns to the brachial artery, in relation to the indications given by the switches to ascertain whether the blood pressure falls within the permissible tolerances.

  • Patent number: 4007736
Abstract: A ventilator is disclosed having a power unit for driving the ventilator which includes fluidic timing control means, gas input means and gas output means. The gas input means is connected to the timing control means via pressure regulating means. Display means are provided to the timing control means. The timing control means is connected to the output means and is alternately conductive and non-conductive of gas from the input means to the output means. The ratio of the periods of conductivity to non-conductivity remain fixed even where the frequency of alternation varies to maintain a fixed ratio of the inspiratory to expiratory phase time.

  • Patent number: 4007737
Abstract: There is disclosed an anesthesia breathing system which is interconnected between a source of gas, such as an oxygen or an anesthesia administration system, or both, and a patient supported inhalation-exhalation means such as a face mask or the like, which includes concentrically oriented double tubular inhalation and exhalation lines having one of the tubes positioned interiorly of the other tube, spacer means for supporting and maintaining the concentrically oriented tubes and spaced in relatively fixed spacial relation, first uni-directional valve means carried adjacent one end of the tube system and positioned adjacent to the patient supported inhalation-exhalation means to control gas flow through the inhalation tube and second unidirectional valve means adjacent to the first unidirectional valve means to control gas flow through the exhalation tube, such that the double tubular inhalation-exhalation line functions as a heat exchanger to warm the gases as they travel to the patient while at the same time

  • Patent number: 4007738
Abstract: Disclosed is a mechanism for allowing blood bags to communicate with each other comprising a connection pipe, a connection tube fitted into and bonded to said connection pipe, for connecting a first blood bag to a second blood bag, and a hard plastic-made communication pipe whose one end on the side of said first blood bag is hermetically sealed and the other end of which is fitted into and bonded to said connection tube and which is formed with a cutting-off small thickness section at its intermediate portion. The communication between said first and second blood bags is rendered effective by cutting off said communication pipe at said small thickness section.

  • Patent number: 4007740
Abstract: A tamper-proof, hermetically sealed cover for a cannula having a sharpened distal end. The cover is initially tubular encircling and covering a substantial portion of the cannula length and extending outwardly beyond the distal end. The free end of the cover is flattened and formed to provide a bubble-like chamber spaced in all directions from the sharpened distal end to avoid damage to the sharpened end; to hermetically seal the end for aseptic conditions and to prevent tampering if the cannula connects to a medicament source.
