Abstract: An agitator for a horizontally oscillating clothes washer includes a hollow perforate column on a flared skirt configured to provide three distinct levels of agitator action. The first and second levels comprise four triangular fins. The first or upper level of each fin helps submerge dry articles by pulling them downwardly, channelizes the articles between the fins to keep the articles in straight toroidal planes, and beats bellow-causing air out of the articles without generating a "suds lock" condition. The second or intermediate level provides just enough circulation to maintain the articles loose, unbunched, and channelized. The third or bottom level comprises four rounded vanes projecting upwardly from the skirt with each vane having a decreasing cross section in the radially outer direction. The outer bottom edge of each vane is rooted to the skirt by a thin web, the decreasing cross section in combination with the thin web allowing the vane to flex in a controlled pattern when under load.

  • Patent number: 4018073
Abstract: An apparatus is disclosed for shaping the cross-section of a metal wire or metal ribbon product obtained by slitting metallic coil stock into multiple lengths of wire with an aspect ratio of 1 or ribbon having an aspect ratio of 2 or more. The product obtained from the slitting procedure is marred by the presence of a burr which impairs mechanical properties and consequently must be eliminated. In previous practice, this was achieved by feeding the slit product through the nip of a pair of mating, shaping rolls having a fixed engagement. However, problems arise from run to run when the rolls are in fixed engagement. For example, variations in the thickness of the material being processed presents difficulties with a fixed engagement. In the disclosed apparatus engagement is allowed to vary while the engagement force is held constant. In brief, this is accomplished by mounting the shaping rolls on separate support members with one of the support members being movable to permit the roll engagement to vary.

  • Patent number: 4018089
Abstract: Improved apparatus for bringing a fluid in a process stream in contact with a sensor is disclosed. The present invention uses the kinetic energy of the process fluid to convey some of the fluid to and from the sensor, as opposed to the prior art practice of inserting the sensor itself into the process fluid stream. A nozzle is placed into the process fluid stream facing into the direction of flow. A small portion of the flowing process fluid is trapped by the nozzle and some of its kinetic energy is converted to pressure. This pressure causes a flow from the nozzle into a conduit through an open valve to the sensor. The fluid continues past the sensor and returns to the process fluid stream through the same valve. In one embodiment, the path for incoming fluid and exiting fluid are separate paths. In a second embodiment, the incoming fluid and exiting fluid exist coaxially.

A drive member in the form of a shaft eccentric to the axis of said planetary engages and slides in a slot of an output member, thereby driving said output member about a second axis displaced from said first axis. A movable mount for the output member changes the drive relationship with said eccentric shaft to change the index motion.
