  • Patent number: 4144827
Abstract: Means are disclosed for permitting entry of operator selected stitch points in a switch array which exceeds the capacity of the switch array. In a switch array for a programmable memory of a sewing machine, the columns of switches are representative of the needle position and the rows of switches are representative of fabric position determined by accumulation of feed increments. Each required feed increment is determined by the change of the present stitch position coordinate for feed over the just prior stitch position coordinate for feed. In order to provide for feed increments in the forward direction beyond the number of rows provided, an artificial signal is generated for the just prior stitch position coordinate for feed representative of the first row of switches. To provide for feed increment in the reverse direction, an artificial signal is generated for the just prior stitch position representative of the last row of switches.

  • Patent number: 4144842
Abstract: This invention relates to a device whereby entry into the feed pan area of a bird feeder is limited to birds of a desired maximum size by means of adjusting the distance between a protective hood and the rim of a feed pan of the bird feeder. Access to the feed area is further limited by making the feed column of the feeder of such a height as to deny squirrels and other marauders a gripping purchase on the top of the feeder while they attempt to reach around the protective hood. In the preferred bird feeder a cylindrical feed column dispenses feed into a pan fixed relative to the bottom of the feed column. An adjustable height conical hood is positioned over the feed pan. Access to the feed in the feed pan is gained by birds passing between the rim of the feed pan and the hood. The maximum size of the bird which may gain access to the feed pan is determined by the distance set between the rim of the feed pan and the hood.

Abstract: A fuel supply apparatus for an internal combustion engine in which fuel is supplied to the air induction tube in proportion to the aspirated air flow rate. A fuel metering valve, which may be electromagnetically actuated on the basis of engine rpm and other variables, is connected to the induction tube, possibly into the bypass channel of a carburetor to provide fine fuel control. Between the fuel metering valve and the induction tube there is disposed a pneumatic valve assembly including an equal pressure valve, the pressure chamber of which controls the fuel flow and the control chamber of which is coupled to the pressure chamber of a further, differentially-biased pressure control valve connected to downstream portions of the induction tube. The differential pressure valve maintains the control pressure in the equal pressure valve.

  • Patent number: 4144859
Abstract: In a non contact ignition circuit for an internal combustion engine, a current induced in the primary winding of an ignition coil is controlled and cut-off by operation, on and off, of a thyristor so as to produce a discharge in a spark plug. A capacitor connected to the gate of the thyristor is charged with an inverse voltage. When the rotational speed of the internal combustion engine exceeds a predetermined level, i.e. a state of overrotation, the inverse voltage stored in the capacitor is discharged whereby the gate potential of the thyristor is negatively biased relative to the cathode. Accordingly, during the discharging period of the capacitor, the triggering time of the thyristor and sparking are retarded as compared to the normal running condition of the internal combustion engine. Thereby overrotation of the internal combustion engine is prevented.
