  • Patent number: 4167865
Abstract: A hand-operated bender apparatus for forming relatively thin metal stock into parts having predetermined shapes, comprising a base, a clamp on the base for holding portions of the metal stock to be shaped, and a elongate handle which is pivotally carried on the base and which can swivel about an axis thereon. The handle carries a spring-biased slide member on which there is mounted a transverse, upstanding pin constituting a shoulder adapted for engagement with the metal stock. The clamp is in the form of a vise having a fixed jaw constituted as a die, around which the metal stock is formed. The slide member is normally biased toward the pivotal axis of the handle but can yield outwardly in a direction away from such axis as the handle is swiveled, this occurring under the action of forces transmitted through the metal stock as it is being formed. The yieldable shoulder on the handle permits the use of dies having irregular shapes.

  • Patent number: 4167868
Abstract: A hose testing system comprising a source of pressurizing fluid, a distribution system for supplying the fluid from the source to a hose under test, a pump for pumping fluid through the distribution system into the hose under test, a regulator for maintaining a constant volume flow rate for the fluid being pumped into the hose and a gauge for indicating the fluid pressure existing in the hose at any specific time. Because of the constant volume flow rate provided by the test system, the monitored pressure vs. time of the hose under test is indicative also of its pressure vs. volume. Consequently, the system can be used to dynamically measure the internal pressure vs. volume characteristic of a given hose which measurements can in turn be employed to predict its structural integrity.

  • Patent number: 4167871
Abstract: An electromagnetic flowmeter capable of accurately measuring the flow rate of fluid conveyed on a line in either direction. The flowmeter includes a primary whose flow tube is provided with electrodes yielding a signal depending on the flow rate of the fluid intersecting a magnetic field established in the tube, the sense of the signal changing with the direction of flow. This electrode signal is applied to a secondary in which the electrode signal is converted by demodulator means into a d-c signal whose magnitude is a function of flow rate and whose polarity depends on the sense of the electrode signal. This d-c signal is converted into variable-frequency pulses which exhibit a duty cycle proportional thereto, the pulses being sampled and fed back through a feedback loop to one input of a summing junction to which the electrode signal is also applied as another input, the ouptut of the junction being fed to the demodulator means.

  • Patent number: 4167873
Abstract: A flow meter comprising a fluidic switching device coupled as a free-running oscillator. The frequency is dependent on the flow rate of the medium. The device called a fluidistor has a nozzle (edges) arranged upstream of the control chambers and a first region downstream of the control chambers, within which first region the flow of medium lies either on one side or the other side in dependence upon the pressure conditions and flow conditions prevailing in the oscillator circuit. A second region is located downstream of said first region. Mutually spaced apart orifices of a cross-connecting line, said orifices preferably being arranged transversely to the flow direction, are arranged at a location at which the stream of fluid is deflected, in a manner such that said orifices are coupled together, through a line. In said line is a pressure-sensing device arranged to generate a signal corresponding to the measuring result and that said deflection location is placed downstream of the control chambers.

  • Patent number: 4167874
Abstract: A device for indicating the volume of liquid in a fuel tank or like container includes a linear variable differential transformer (LVDT) mounted within the tank, which is divided into a liquid containing section and a gas containing section by a longitudinally movable piston. Pressure gas is provided to the gas containing section of the tank through a port in a tank wall, and urges the piston to follow the liquid level in the tank. The LVDT has a fixed coil housing with a fixed electrical input and a rotatable core actuator. The core actuator is coupled for rotation in response to movement of the piston. Rotation of the actuator effects translational movement of the core within the coil, thereby producing a variable electrical output in response to changes in liquid volume.
