  • Patent number: 4167927
Abstract: In a contactless ignition control system having a dwell time control circuit for an internal combustion engine, there is provided a speed responsive bias voltage circuit, a bias voltge switching circuit and a wave shaping circuit. The speed responsive bias voltage changes the switching level of the wave shaping circuit, thereby elongating the dwell time of the current flowing through an ignition coil.In the dwell time control, when the ignition timing comes, the bias voltage switching circuit prevents application of the speed responsive bias voltage so that the ignition timing is made irrespective of the speed responsive bias voltage.

  • Patent number: 4167928
Abstract: For a four cylinder engine, a first and second ignition coil, each having a primary and secondary winding is provided. A first and second electronic switch is connected in series wit the primary winding of each ignition coil and the so-formed series circuits are connected in parallel. A power switch is connected in series with the parallel combination. The power switch is switched to the conductive state a predetermined time interval prior to the ignition time and to the nonconductive state at each ignition time. The series switches are switched to the conductive state alternately during each cycle, but the switching occurs only when the power switch is in the nonconductive state. The on-offswitching of the series switch is controlled by a flip-flop which is clocked at the ignition time and which is initially synchronized to the ignition cycle by a signal derived from a sensor sensing a mark on a rotating shaft in the engine.

  • Patent number: 4167930
Abstract: A four stroke cycle internal combustion engine is presented having a sustained power stroke which results from a delayed mixing of a stratified charge. Use of delayed mixing of an overall stoichiometric air-fuel mixture results in formation of a low amount of the oxides of nitrogen. Delayed mixing of the stratified charge is achieved by placement of a Helmholtz resonator cavity in the head or closed end of each combustion chamber. The Helmholtz resonator cavity communicates with the main combustion chamber via a narrow slot made around the periphery of the top end of the chamber. On the intake stroke of each engine cylinder, the main chamber is filled with a slightly fuel rich gaseous charge while the companion Helmholtz resonator cavity is filled with air. During the compression stroke some of the rich air-fuel mixture is forced into the resonator cavity via the communicating slot. At or near TDC, the air-fuel mixture in the main chamber is ignited.

  • Patent number: 4167932
Abstract: A heater system for warming the body of a diver while underwater, to be used in combination with and powered by an air supply tank is disclosed. In essence, the heater system functions by taking in controlled amounts of water from the ambient, heating this water and delivering it to the diver's suit.High-pressure air from the air supply is admitted into the heater system through a pressure regulator which reduces the air pressure and utilizes the energy thus provided to operate as a pneumatic motor and water-circulating pump. The reduced-pressure air controls a fuel pressure regulator, allowing fuel, such as propane, to enter the system from a fuel canister. The air and fuel of controlled volume are permitted to mix and flow together into a catalytic combustion chamber where combustion is initiated by a spark generator.

  • Patent number: 4167933
Abstract: The present invention teaches a novel internal combustion engine wherein a unique structural means of transmitting combustion-generated forces and motion is incorporated. A journalled rotor assembly having combustion cavities in each of opposing faces thereof receives a combustible fluid. A main cam carried by an output shaft which is integral with the rotor assembly drives intermittent-motion cams carried on transfer shafts. Transfer plates integral with the transfer shafts and captively movable within housings rotate into and out of the combustion cavities so as to define the variable working volumes of each cavity. With each of the firings, the rotor is caused to spin in a direction opposite with respect to the relative rotational direction of the respective transfer plates.

  • Patent number: 4167938
Abstract: A distensible body having an air impervious bladder of stretchable material is connected to a compressed air source and to a pressure indicator by hoses. A squeeze bulb and a releasable check valve pumping air into the body force the stretchable bladder to distend. The bladder pressure is shown on the pressure indicator which can be entirely mechanical or can include electronic components providing a digital display of such pressure. When relaxed, the body is inserted into the vagina and then the body bladder is distended until it engages the vaginal wall. The elasticity of the vaginal muscles is measured by noting the increase in bladder pressure indicated as more air is pumped into the body. Controlled exercise of the vaginal muscles is effected by alternately distending the body bladder to exert a predetermined amount of pressure on the vaginal wall and releasing the pressure by allowing air to escape through the releasable check valve.

Abstract: A control circuit for a typical home heating and cooling system is shown. The control circuit includes a standard 24 volt transformer in conjunction with a thermostat selector switch and a fan selector switch. As is common in many heating and cooling systems, a multiple speed blower is included with the higher speed being used during the cooling cycle. In addition to the standard relay for normal operation of the multiple speed blower motor in the typical home heating and cooling system, the control circuit includes an economizer control relay. The economizer control relay activates when the thermostat selector switch is in the cool position and the fan selector switch is ON to cause the blower motor to run at a high speed while the compressor is running and at a low speed while the compressor is not running.

Abstract: A heat exchanger including a pressure vessel and a plurality of heat exchanger tubes extending within the vessel. A tube shroud forms an annular passage between the tubes and the pressure vessel wall. A partition wall, comprising a plurality of openings normally closed by closure means, divides the passage into a fluid inlet compartment and a fluid outlet compartment. In the event the fluid pressure differential between the inlet and outlet compartments attains a predetermined value, at least some of the closure means will open to reduce the pressure differential below the predetermined value. In one embodiment of the invention, the closure means comprise flap valves. In an alternate embodiment of the invention, rupture discs are utilized as closure means.

  • Patent number: 4167972
Abstract: Mounting arrangement for a pipe base well screen utilizes a weld for joining one end of a cylindrical screen member to the outer surface of an internal pipe member which has perforations along a portion of its length underlying the well screen. The opposite free end of the screen member includes an elongated sleeve portion which supports an internal elastomeric O-ring member in a groove. The O-ring seals the screen member to an unperforated portion of the pipe base and permits the pipe to be subjected to substantial tensile and torsional stresses without destroying the screen as often happens when a screen is welded at each of its ends.
