  • Patent number: 5392482
Abstract: A toothbrush is provided which avoids the use of a rigid handle. The toothbrush utilizes a brushing element mounted on a sheath that fits over the tip of a user's finger. The brushing element may include a plurality of bristles projecting outwardly from a stiff base which holds the bristles so as to extend away from the finger of a user. The bristles therefore will not collapse against the sheath, but can be used to dislodge food particles from between the teeth. An alternative brushing element may take the form of a brush pad formed as a unitary structure from a resilient, water impervious material and having a multiplicity of protuberances that project therefrom outwardly away from the prophylactic rubber sheath mounted on the user's fingers. The protuberances aid in dislodging food. A stiff rubber pick may also be mounted on the sheath, either projecting from the center of the brush pad, or at a laterally spaced location therefrom.

  • Patent number: 5392486
Abstract: A windshield wiper system incorporates a depressed park mechanism that stores a wiper blade in a depressed, park position. Actuation of the motor in one direction moves the blade out of its park position and into an operative position where it reciprocates through a predetermined wipe pattern. De-actuation of the wipe system then repositions the blade in its depressed park position by simply reversing rotation of the motor and altering the effective length of the drive link assembly.

  • Patent number: 5392489
Abstract: An antilift wiper blade assembly for clearing a generally nonplanar vehicular windshield includes a pressure-distributing superstructure and a resilient wiping element. An elongated flexor interconnects the wiping element and the superstructure and has a longitudinally extending channel engaging the wiping element. A pair of laterally extending flanges are spaced above the bottom wall of the flexor and are engaged by the yoke elements, with the wiping element projecting through an elongated opening formed in the bottom wall of the flexor and into contact with the windshield. An upwardly curved airfoil extends tangentially from the bottom face of the flexor to generate an aerodynamic force which urges the wiping element into engagement with the windshield. A number of parallel slits are spaced along the length of the airfoil to partition the airfoil into a plurality of independently deformable aerodynamic force generating fins.

  • Patent number: 5392495
Abstract: Seed cotton is cleaned in a cotton gin by wiping it over grid bars having a large gap between them. In this manner more cotton per hour may be cleaned. Excessive seed cotton falling through the grid bars with the trash is reclaimed by saw cylinder reclaimers. The cotton with the least amount of trash has the trash from a preliminary reclaimer going to the saw cylinder receiving cotton with more trash. The seed cotton which has been reclaimed may be further cleaned by wiping it across a grid bar and thereafter reclaiming any cotton which might go through the grid bars of the reclamation wiper cleaner. By-passes are provided to by-pass the cleaner cotton that passes through grid bars into the main stream of cleaned cotton. • Patent number: 5392516
Abstract: A valve sleeve is made from a tube having smooth inner and outer diametri surfaces by forming a shallow channel on the tube so that a channelled region of the tube is thinner than other regions of the tube. The tube is confined in a sleeve whose inner peripheral surface conforms with the tube's outer diametrical surface, but the sleeve's inner peripheral surface also defines a gap with the channelled region of the tube. Next, the tube is pressurized to deform the channelled region outward into the gap. As a result, there are both a concavity on the inner diametrical surface of the tube and a smoothly surfaced transition between the concavity and the other regions. Finally, the tube is removed from the sleeve and a port aperture is drilled in the radially outer part of the concavity. As an alternate method, a tube of constant tube wall thickness may be placed in an internally channelled confinement and then pressurized so as to distend regions of the tube wall outward.

Abstract: A ring gear is formed from a blank taken from a hot extruded tube stock. The tube stock is extruded to predetermined dimensions substantially smaller than the finished ring gear blank. A toroidal blank is cut from the tube stock and measured to determine the mass thereof. The blank is expanded by rolling it to new inner and outer diameters and width after which a set of gear teeth are formed on the periphery of the expanded blank.

Abstract: A reciprocating saw includes a body and a slider supported by the body such that the slider is slidably movable in a longitudinal direction of the body and is pivotally movable in a vertical direction. A first motion conversion mechanism is operable to convert the rotational movement of the rotary member into a reciprocal movement of the slider in the longitudinal direction. A second motion conversion mechanism is operable to convert the rotational movement of the rotary member into a reciprocal pivotal movement of the slider in the vertical direction. The second motion conversion mechanism includes an arm having one end vertically pivotally connected to the slider. An actuating member is rotatable with the rotary member and has an abutting surface on which the other end of the arm slidably abuts. The abutting position of the other end of the arm on the abutting surface is varied as the actuating member is rotated, so that the vertical position of one end of the arm is varied.

Abstract: A vector brush can be attached to the front face of a movable carriage of a device for cutting foil material. The vector brush includes an air brush, which can be adjusted in height, thereby adjusting the size of its atomizing cone. The motion of the air brush is controlled by the motion of the carriage in one direction and the motion of the foil strip moved underneath it in the perpendicular direction. After a pattern has been sprayed on the foil material with the vector brush, it can immediately be cut out with a cutting tool mounted on the same carriage.

  • Patent number: 5392521
Abstract: A surveyor's retro-reflective device, such as a corner cube prism, is striped along the reflective surfaces to provide an internal visual center target. The precise center of the prism is identified by the visual target which allows the prism to be used both for distance measuring purposes as well as visual alignment for the one step setting of surveying points or locations. The corner cube prism has the ridges of the intersecting reflective surfaces on the back of the prism striped or lined either with a stripe having equal thickness or tapered towards the center apex of the prism. The stripes are formed with a highly visible paint, ink, tape, or sheet material. This arrangement produces a highly visible visual center target. The prism target can be mounted in an enclosed case and the case can be rigidly mounted or tiltably mounted on a horizontal axis to tilt the prism in a vertical direction for use in mountainous terrain.

  • Patent number: 5392522
Abstract: A plumb bob having a central body portion and at least three substantially identical webs extending outwardly from the body portion along respective radial axes. The angles separating each successive web must be equal to maintain vertical symmetry, and an even distribution of weight, with respect to a longitudinal axis extending centrally through the body portion. In addition, the webs uniformly and linearly taper in a decreasing manner from the top end to the bottom end of the body portion. This geometry permits a worker standing in vertically aligned position above the plumb bob to be able to clearly see both the bottom end of the plumb bob and the preexisting datum from which alignments are being made.

The apparatus includes a fixed locating member and pivotable locating member which respectively interface with the two surfaces being examined. The members are pivotally connected so that angular displacement of their longitudinal axes about the connecting point is possible. A signaling device activates to inform a user when the two surfaces under examination form an angle to each other which equals or exceeds a maximum allowable angle preset into the apparatus. A device is also incorporated for adjusting the apparatus to allow a user to change the angle at which the signaling device activates.
