  • Patent number: 5761774
Abstract: A band clamp tightening tool comprising a cylindrical body, having at one end an internal bore adapted to pressfit the tool over the hex shaped head of a hose clamp adjustment screw, to which a combination crank/thumbscrew element has been affixed, said element being formed by passing a metal rod through a transverse aperture in the tool body, bending said rod to form a crank arm and a crank handle on one side of the body, and, on the opposite side of the tool body bending said rod to form a semicircular loop or thumbscrew element in the plane of the crank handle. In the use of this tool when attached to a hose clamp, the crank handle is rotated between the thumb and index finger to take up any slack in the band of the clamp, and to tighten the clamp the index finger is moved across the tool body to the thumbscrew loop, and the tool is turned as a large thumbscrew.

  • Patent number: 5761779
Abstract: A method of producing soft fine metal spheres for semiconductor packaging from a material selected from soft metals and soft alloys. A plurality of fine wires made of the material are arranged in parallel on a flat base plate. Each of the wires has a diameter of not more than 100 .mu.m. The fine wires are cut into wire chips having an equal mass relative to each other and a chip length/chip diameter ratio between 5 and 100 by utilizing a cutting jig having cutting edges which are arranged at a constant pitch. The resulting wire chips are arranged so that the chips are spaced apart a minimum distance sufficient to prevent the chips from merging when melted. The resulting spaced-apart wire chips are heated to a temperature up to but not exceeding 100.degree. C. above the melting point thereof, thereby forming the chips into molten spheres. The resulting molten spheres are cooled, thereby forming solid spheres having a diameter within about 5% of a desired diameter.

  • Patent number: 5761785
Abstract: A method and apparatus for reliably placing the spring retainer and keys on a valve stem, to lock the valve spring in place. The apparatus includes a linear actuator, having an extended position and a retracted position, and a connector for connecting the linear actuator to a carrying member, such as a robotic arm. A gripper is attached to the linear actuator, adapted to grip the spring retainer. The keys reside in a retainer-key kit, held therein by gravity, and are presented to the gripper in a predetermined position by a positioning device. As the linear actuator is extended from its retracted position to its extended position, the gripper engages the retainer-key kit. The retainer-key kit is then withdrawn from the positioning device by retracting the linear actuator. The gripper and retainer-key kit are then transported to the cylinder head so that the retainer-key kit is substantially positioned for application to the valve stem.

  • Patent number: 5761790
Abstract: A composite thin film slider with a protruding R/W device formed by chemical-mechanical polishing to protrude above its substrate and thereby reduce the distance between the R/W device and the recording media. The slider includes a ceramic or non-ceramic substrate with a substantially planar bearing surface, and a R/W device. The R/W device includes an insulator and certain conductive R/W components, deposited onto the substrate's deposit end. The R/W components may include, for example, a magnetic shield layer, a MR stripe layer, and a magnetic pole tip layer, all layered over the deposit end of the substrate. The R/W components protrude from the insulator sufficiently to extend past the substrate's bearing surface. To manufacture this slider, a substrate with the R/W device deposited thereon is polished with a lapping slurry to disproportionately erode the substrate and insulator with respect to the R/W components.

  • Patent number: 5761810
Abstract: A method and tool for installing a baffle in a tubular member, such as a heat exchanger manifold. The method and tool are adapted to use a baffle having a closed base that acts to obstruct the flow of a fluid within the tubular member, and further having a sidewall extending axially from the perimeter of the base so as to form a recess in the baffle. The tool is generally composed of a sleeve having an elastically and radially deformable end, such as a number of cantilevered members adapted to be elastically bent radially outward. Radially outward deformation of the sleeve enables the sleeve to securely grip the baffle, maintain the orientation of the baffle during its insertion into the tubular member, and then plastically deform the sidewalls of the baffle in order to secure the baffle to the wall of the tubular member.

Abstract: An aerodynamic cutting string for use with such devices as flexible line trimmers and the like. The string incorporates a number of embodiments which eliminates or greatly reduces the drag, fluttering and force imbalances which are created as a result of the pressure differential and wake which are formed behind the flexible line as it moves. This accomplishment is achieved by employing an aerodynamic profile for the line which lowers the coefficient of drag and reduces the forces created by the air foil.

  • Patent number: 5761821
Abstract: A gauge for determining the diameter of an eccentric cylindrical workpiece part during grinding. The measurement is effected by a pair of fingers adapted to engage diametrically opposite regions of the part. The fingers are carried at the ends of a pair of elongate probes mounted on the grinding wheel table so as to move therewith, thereby to follow the eccentric movement of the said part in a horizontal plane, as the workpiece rotates. The probes are slidable in a generally vertical sense relative to the grinding wheel table and relative to each other. The two probes are also slidable as a unitary assembly relative to the table, in a direction towards the workpiece, with the two fingers positioned above and below the upper and lower extremities of the eccentric movement of the workpiece part, to allow subsequent gauging thereof by closure of the two fingers onto the part to make contact therewith.

  • Patent number: 5761823
Abstract: An inspection tool for verifying the relative planarity of a flat surface or for verifying whether a first planar surface is parallel to a second planar surface is described. The tool includes a dial indicator on the end of a flexible support arm which is rotatably mounted on a base with a planar bottom surface. The flexible support arm permits the dial indicator to be positioned in contact with the planar bottom surface of the base and the axis of rotation is adjustable with respect to the planar bottom surface which allows the device to be self-calibrating. One application of the device is verifying whether the ring carrier or probe card of a wafer prober is parallel with the wafer probe chuck. The planar bottom surface of the base is placed on the wafer probe chuck and the support arm is rotated with the dial indicator in contact with the ring carrier or the probe card. Any deviation in the dial indicator reading indicates that the surfaces are not parallel.
