  • Patent number: 5765334
Abstract: A building panel is formed using particulate mineral material, such as sand, with an adhesive binder, to form an aggregate. The mix undergoes a heating process to cure the adhesive, which also produces a porosity in the panel. The relative quantities of the materials are such that the resulting panel is porous after heating, with the interstices between particles being devoid of binder material. The resulting porosity provides for the limited passage of air and moisture, particularly water vapor, through the panels so the panels may "breathe" to allow circulation through a structure composed of the present panels, and also provides acoustic properties. The present panels are non-flammable, in accordance with the non-flammable materials used in the formation thereof. The panels may be colored or tinted as desired, by adding a coloring material (epoxy paint or other suitable coloring agent) which may be mixed with the sand and adhesive binder before heating.

Abstract: A yarn splicing device and method provides for overlapping yarn ends from different spools or packages of yarn to form a smooth, continuous splice. The device allows the operator to place the different yarn ends in a pair of clamps that are separated by a pneumatic commingling jet. After the yarn is clamped into place the yarn ends, which consist of multi-filament yarns, are pneumatically commingled and thereafter the clamps are rotated in opposite directions from the commingling jet to stretch the splice junction to reduce the diameter thereof. Thereafter the clamps release the spliced yarn so it is available for removal and further processing such as texturizing. The splicing method described provides a fast, efficient method which provides for uniform yarn diameter which does not slow or obstruct other yarn processing steps by snagging or breaking at the splice junction.

  • Patent number: 5765361
Abstract: A low-cost rocket or thruster has a low-cost propellant injector, in which fluid fuel and oxidizer are injected into a combustion chamber. The walls of the combustion chamber are protected from the high temperatures of the combustion by a grain of solid propellant, the surface of which tends to melt andor vaporize in the presence of combustion temperatures, and thereby protects the walls of the chamber. The low-cost propellant injector may not mix the fluid fuel and oxidizer effectively, so that pockets of noncombusted gas may occur within the chamber. The ratio of fluid fuel and oxidizer is selected to be slightly oxidizer-rich, so that any pockets of unburned gas tend to be oxygen-rich. When the pockets come into contact with the solid fuel, the excess oxygen combusts with the gaseous solid fuel, and when the mixture is near stoichiometric, the fluid fuel combusts.

  • Patent number: 5765363
Abstract: An annular combustor system is disclosed in use with a radial turbine-type gas turbine gas generator, the system having an annular housing defining a single stage combustor, an external fuel/air premixer system having a mixing chamber and a fuel valve under the control of a controller, to provide a preselected lean fuel/air ratio mixture for introduction to the combustion zone of the annular housing. A separate compressed air valve under the control of the controller can optionally be included. Compressed air conduits are used to channel a portion of the total compressed air flow to the premixer and the remainder to the dilution zone of the combustor, and a fuel conduit is used to deliver all of the fuel to the premixer. Convection cooling of the annular housing is accomplished using compressed air without diluting the fuel air ratio in the combustion zone.
