  • Patent number: 5765367
Abstract: The control system comprises a plurality of nozzles pointing in different directions, a plurality of gas generators, and pipework connecting the gas generators to the nozzles via gates for allowing or preventing gas being ejected therethrough. Each gas generator is fitted with a shutter disposed in an outlet passage connecting the generator to the pipework, the shutter having a closed position in which it closes the outlet passage by bearing against a seat formed in the passage and against which it is pressed when the generator is not ignited so as to isolate the gas generator in sealed manner from gas contained in the pipework and coming from other generators, the shutter being automatically lifted off its seat to move from the closed position to an open position under the effect of the pressure produced in the generator in response to being ignited, thereby enabling control to be performed with gas generators being ignited independently of one another.

  • Patent number: 5765368
Abstract: In an engine, if a catalytic converter is not in the activated region, a fuel injection rate is corrected to increase, and a secondary air is introduced from a secondary air feed port into a catalytic converter. Even immediately after the cold start of the engine, the fuel injection rate is increased to be richer in fuel than the stoichiometric air/fuel ratio to feed the secondary air simultaneously, so that the temperatures of the catalytic converter and the exhaust gas can be kept over the activation temperature by the heat of the reaction of the increased fuel in the catalytic converter thereby to improve the exhaust gas purification.

  • Patent number: 5765379
Abstract: It is already known that heat insulating elements, e.g. in refrigerators, may be more efficient if they are sealingly encapsulated and subjected to a high vacuum. Based on theoretical considerations in connection with foam having small cells it has been relevant to use a vacuum of the magnitude of 0.001 mbar and hermetical sealing of the elements. According to the invention it has been found that practically well usable results are achievable at much higher pressures, viz. in a range about 1 mbar, which is much easier to produce. Consequently, a further simplification can be obtained by renouncing the hermetical sealing and relying on an only "almost tight" sealing, combined with the use of an operationally active vacuum pump provided in each apparatus unit.

  • Patent number: 5765392
Abstract: The invention shows an improvement in the lubrication of bearings and shaft seals of screw compressors for refrigerants with oils soluble in refrigerants. A typical application results, for example, for ammonia with polyalkylene glycol soluble therein. Due to the fact that a partial oil flow is taken out of the oil flow returned to the screw compressor at an intermediate pressure prior to a pressure reduction to nearly suction pressure of the compressor and conveyed via a vapor separation container, substantial proportions of the dissolved refrigerant can be fed in at an intermediate pressure connection on the compression path of the screw compressor. Correspondingly more advantageous are the lubrication properties of the remaining partial oil flow at the lubrication connection, and the disadvantages of pressure collapse or foam conveyance at an oil pump are absent, since no oil pump is required with a suitable intermediate pressure.

In the first method, a first half of the circumference of the tube is knitted on a front needle bed, whereupon the second half of the circumference is knitted on the rear needle bed upon the backward movement of the cam carriage of the flatbed knitting machine. Thereupon, the second course of loops is knitted on the first needle bed and knitted backward in the second needle bed. In this way an endless tube is knitted. The tube is stabilized in circumferential direction by the laying-in of a filling thread. In the other method, the first course is knitted as connected multi-layer knitted fabric on the front and rear needle beds.

Abstract: In a spin extractor, an eccentric load judging unit judges the magnitude of the eccentric load based on the amplitude of fluctuations in the motor current while a drum is rotated at a speed at which the centrifugal force on fabric articles contained in the drum is a little larger than the gravity. If the magnitude of the eccentric load detected is larger than predetermined, a balance correcting operation is conducted by a speed control unit. That is, a speed reducing position designating unit sends a pulse signal to the speed control unit at the moment when the eccentric load of the drum comes just before the highest position, in response to which the speed of the drum is reduced momentarily. When the speed is reduced, the centrifugal force is smaller than the gravity, so that the fabric articles crammed and piled fall off the inner peripheral wall of the drum. Thus the fabric articles can be scattered almost evenly.

Abstract: A water treatment method and apparatus is described for generating a supply of activated water containing oxidants, including hydroxyl radicals, hydrogen peroxide, and hydroperoxy radicals, but excluding ozone. The apparatus includes a generator having ultraviolet lamps to which air is exposed to create activated air. To suppress the generation of ozone in the activated air, the air subjected to the ultraviolet lamps is maintained at a relative high humidity. Also, the activated air is generated in the presence of a catalyst and using 254 nm light, both of which are believed to aid in the destruction of any ozone generated by the exposure of the air to other wavelengths of the uv light. The catalyst also provides additional oxidants in the air. The activated air is entrained in the water using an injector to thereby produce the activated water.
