  • Patent number: 5791172
Abstract: A door key is held in a tray which is slidably installed in a container. The tray is retained in the container by a form member pivotally mounted on the container which engages a latch on the tray. A shackle is removably attached to the container for use in retaining the container to a door knob or the like. The shackle has a notched arm which engages a fork member pivotally mounted on the container, thereby retaining the shackle in a closed position. A motor which rotatably drives a drive gear is mounted in the container. When the motor is driven in a first direction, the drive gear drives a tapered release wheel which operates to release the fork member from engagement with the key tray latch, thereby permitting the key tray to be removed. When the motor is driven in an opposite direction, the drive gear drives a second tapered release wheel so as to disengage the notched arm of the shackle from its associated fork member, thereby permitting the shackle to be moved to an open position.

Abstract: A fastener feeding apparatus provides an aperture for inserting fasteners into the interior of the apparatus so that the fastener lies on the longitudinal axis of the apparatus. A bit is then forced into contact with the fastener in order to engage it for mutual rotation and translation. A set of flexible leaves are preformed to press inwardly against the shank of the fastener so as to maintain its axial orientation. The bit is driven to force the fastener to move through the apparatus while rotating. The leaves move radially outwardly to accommodate the head of the fastener.

  • Patent number: 5791209
Abstract: A self-forming socket having a plurality of retractable pins bundled in parallel within a housing is disclosed. The bundled pins may displace longitudinally and are biased by spring force away from a frame onto which the pins are slidably held. A spacer pin may be positioned at the center of the socket and is similarly biased away from the frame under spring force. When the socket is forced over a fastener, nut, or bolt head, groups of pins are pushed inward toward the frame and into the housing thereby conforming the pins to the contours of the fastener. Applying a torque to the socket transfers the torque through the bundled pins to the fastener. Each pin has a circular cross-section and the interior walls of the housing containing the bundled pins has a hexagonal shape and does not contain any right angles. The pins are packed in a hexagonal arrangement.

  • Patent number: 5791215
Abstract: Precise cutting of pattern strips and pattern pieces from lace and similar patterned fabrics requires correct mutual positioning of the fabric and fabric cutter for precise alignment with the boundary of the pattern pre-existing on the fabric. Patterned fabrics and especially loosely-woven lace are liable to randomly variable stretching and slippage which makes it impossible to cut under the direction of an externally imposed pattern program without regard to the instantaneous location of the pattern pre-existing on the fabric. The invention comprises lace-cutting apparatus and a lace-cutting method including optical scanning of the lace, recognition of the pattern boundary, and mutual alignment of the fabric with the fabric cutter to trace the intended cut line. Different techniques for mutual movement of the fabric and cutter are employed according to whether the pattern boundary is re-entrant or not. Preferred forms of fabric cutter include a hot-wire cutter and a laser beam cutter.

  • Patent number: 5791216
Abstract: A sheet material 2 is cut with a round blade 10 and a notching blade 11. It is assumed that, in a straight section P1-P2-P3-P4, a distance between the end point P1 and the end point P2 is not shorter than a blade width W10 of the round blade 10, a distance between the end point P2 and the end point P3 and a distance between the end point P3 and the end point P4 are shorter than the blade width W10 and it is necessary to cut without cutting into a pattern piece indicated by shadow. A section between the end point P2 and the end point P3 can be cut without cutting into the pattern piece although overcut occurs on the end point P2 side, with the round blade 10 by aligning the leading edge thereof at the end point P3. A section between the end point P3 and the end point P4 is cut with the notching blade 11 because cutting with the round blade 10 causes a cut into the pattern piece at least from one of the end points.

  • Patent number: 5791218
Abstract: In a cutting device having a moving (disc) cutter and a fixed cutter which extends in a cutting direction, wherein the moving cutter moves along the fixed cutter, thereby cutting a medium which is interposed therebetween, a presser member which is movable together with a medium pressing interlocking plate is lowered to press on the medium to fix the same at a portion close to a cutting position since a bearing attached to the moving cutter engages with the medium pressing interlocking plate to press down the same as the moving cutter moves. Since the moving cutter cuts the medium at this state, the cut edge of the medium can be excellent in linearity even if it has low rigidity in the outward-surface direction at right angles to the surface thereof. While the moving cutter does not cut the medium, the presser member is retracted to a standby position.

  • Patent number: 5791220
Abstract: A cutting device of packing apparatus includes at least three cutting blades arranged around the packing material expanding cylinder in a substantially equally-spaced manner. The cutting blades are rotatable about their own rotational axes in a synchronous manner for cutting off the continuous packing material along a circumferential slit formed on the cylinder. This simplifies the overall structure by eliminating a mechanism to move the blades around the cylinder. By using a number of blades rotatable in synchronization with each other, the time period for a single blade in contact engagement with the packing material to be cut off is substantially reduced and the efficiency of the cutting operation is enhanced. Due to the enhanced efficiency, the delay of time in the alternation of the feeding operation and cutting operation is lowered down.

  • Patent number: 5791221
Abstract: A media buffer capable of buffering two lengths of media, is fed a first length of media from an imagesetter at a first speed, and releases the media to a processor at a second speed. An input media sensor senses the media entering the buffer. Drive rollers take up the leading edge of the media at the imagesetter speed. Shortly thereafter a signal from an output media sensor located between the drive rollers and the processor, opens an input door to an input bin and stops the drive rollers. The incoming media continues to be fed by the imagesetter forming a first slack loop within the input bin. The imagesetter signals the buffer that the media has been cut, thereby actuating drive rollers to advance the media at the processor speed to a pair of rollers in the processor. A signal from the processor sensor opens an output door to an output bin. The drive rollers increase speed to transport the first piece of media from the input bin to the output bin thereby forming a second slack loop.
