    Abstract: A strap tensioning device that uses ratchet means to wind up and secure a tension strap in a tensioned condition for securing loads for hauling or transport. The device is adapted to be moveable along the length of a tension strap prior to tensioning the strap and includes a slotted member having a guide slot through which the strap is threaded for facilitating movement of the device along the strap and to prevent the device from cocking or twisting away from the device when the device is actuated to tension the strap. A slidable hook for a tensioning strap is also provided for use with the tensioning device. The hook includes a guide clip that provides for a receiving slot through which the strap is also threaded. The receiving slot maintains the strap in alignment with the guide slot.

A first functional element has a fastening tab portion and the second functional element has an attachment portion, The attachment portion of one closure system tab element interacts with a fastening tab portion of an adjacent closure system tab element to form a functional closure system on a disposable article made using the second web.

    Abstract: A conveyor belt with rods and connective links that engage one another so as to resist lateral and rotational movement about the rods during conveyor operation. The links are affixed on the rods by resistance welding the rod to the link apertures. In addition to the resistance weld, the rods include diametrically enlarged protrusions or swells that are placed proximate the link apertures to constrain the links from lateral movement on the rod. At the ends of the rod, this protrusion is in the form of an upset or button head. Alternative embodiments also include rotational constraints of the links relative to the rod. The additional fixation steps such as manual welding used in conventional belt manufacture are thus eliminated. By affixing the links and rods together in the manner disclosed, repeated movements of the link legs relative to the rods are eliminated thereby significantly reducing the chances of fatigue failure of the links.

    Abstract: The present invention provides a method of fabricating coated multiple metal substrates comprising the steps of fabricating from a section of metal a gang matrix comprising a frame, at least one piece of base metal which later forms a substrate, and a connective portion connecting or linking the piece to the frame. A coating of resist or mask material is applied in the immediate proximity of the notched portion and then a layer of dielectric coating material is applied to the carrier gang. The resist serves to prevent the deposition of the dielectric coating material in the proximity of the notched portion. After coating, the carrier gang is fired in order to cure the dielectric material. The piece of base metal may be further processed, for example, screen printed with thick or think film inks. When required, the piece of base metal can be easily removed or separated from the frame by bending and/or twisting.

    Abstract: A method of repairing a cylinder head of a water cooled internal combustion engine that has damage to the boundary wall between a cooling water passage and the combustion chamber. According to the method. the boundary wall B located between a cooling water passage and a combustion chamber and including a crack is cut away from a cylinder head until the cut reaches a depth of one half the cross section of the cooling water passage. Then, a half-pipe portion. having a semicircular cross section that is equal in size to one-half the cross section of the cooling water passage is fixed in the cylinder head from which the boundary wall B has been removed such that an inner surface of the half-pipe may serve to form a cooling water passage after repair. With the use of the above method, the repair operation is completed easily with a low cost because the boundary wall B has only to be cut away to a shallow depth.

    Abstract: A method for identifying and repairing indications open to the surface of a turbine component, such as cracks or other tight crevices that may develop during turbine engine operation. The process includes cleaning the component of debris, dirt or other foreign material that may otherwise mask the presence of the indications. This is followed by applying a fluorescent penetrant to the surface of the component. Without removing the penetrant, the article is visually inspected under normal lighting conditions and repair alloy is applied as needed to areas requiring repair. Next, the article is inspected under an ultraviolet light, at which time very tight indications not otherwise detectable by the unaided eye are identified as areas requiring repair and repair alloy is applied to these additional areas, by an automatic and/or manual process. Without removing the penetrant, the article is then heated to an elevated temperature sufficient to liquify at least a portion of the repair alloy to accomplish the repair.

    Abstract: A method for replacing cracked core spray supply piping in a boiling water reactor vessel includes removal of all or part of the core spray supply piping inside the reactor vessel and replacement of the piping with new piping components configured to couple with one another or any remaining core spray supply piping without being welded. In accordance with one aspect of the invention, a lower elbow of the core spray supply piping is removed and replaced with an elbow assembly configured to mechanically couple with an existing feed-through assembly at the core shroud, for example by use of friction fit, bias members, and/or bolts. A vertical section of the core spray supply piping feeding into the elbow can also be removed and replaced with a new piping section configured to mechanically couple with the replacement lower elbow assembly, for example using pins, clamps and sealing members such as piston rings.

    Abstract: A heat exchange unit and the method of its manufacture including a base plate with heat dissipating protrusions extending therefrom which are formed by plastic deformation. One or more long holes extend through the base plate to receive heat pipes in conductive contact. The long hole is formed during the extrusion of billets from which the units are formed. Mandrels are placed in the long holes through the billets and the heat exchange unit is formed therefrom. The mandrel is then extracted and replaced by a heat pipe. Further deformation of the base plate around the inserted heat pipe can insure intimate contact for heat conduction between components.

    Abstract: A crank arm for a bicycle includes a crank arm body having a pedal attachment hole on a first end thereof and a spindle attachment hole on a second end thereof. The crank arm body defines an elongated interior cavity surrounded by a shell, wherein the interior cavity is open to an exterior of the crank arm body. The opening can be used to access the cavity during and after manufacturing. The shape of the cavity may be varied to produce a lightweight yet strong structure. In the method used to form the crank arm body, a mold core formed by a shell containing a sand-like filler material is positioned into a casting mold so that a melt space is formed around the mold core, molten metal is poured into the casting mold, and the molten metal is solidified to form a crank billet. The filler material may be removed through an opening in the crank billet.
