  • Patent number: 6308533
Abstract: The process and the apparatus serve for the low-temperature fractionation of air. Feed air (1) is introduced into a first rectification column (3). A transfer fraction (6, 7) of density &rgr; is withdrawn in the liquid state from a reservoir (24, 16) within the first rectification column (3), expanded (14, 14a, 18) and fed to a further process step (5, 23). The liquid level in the reservoir (24, 16) is in this case at a first level h1 and is at a first pressure p1. The expanded transfer fraction is fed to the further process step (5, 23) at a second, higher level h2 (h2 >h1) and at a second, lower pressure (p2 <p1). The difference between the two pressures &Dgr;p=p1−p2 is less than the hydrostatic pressure (Phydr=&rgr;·g·[h2−h1]) caused by a liquid column of the transfer fraction between the first level and the second level: &Dgr;p=p1−p2<&rgr;·g·[h2−h1] (g: acceleration due to gravity).

Abstract: An apparatus to normalize a flow rate of a fluid in a main flow channel is provided. The apparatus uses a moveable member, such as a flexible membrane disposed for reciprocating displacement, to produce a constant dither flow of the fluid that is independent of fluid composition. This dither flow generates a signal output from a normalizing flow sensor that both represents a characteristic property of the fluid and a flow rate calibration factor. A similar apparatus to determine the characteristic property or flow rate calibration factor is also provided. The devices disclosed may be used in numerous industrial, process, and medical flow system applications for normalization of flow sensors and to derive other properties of a fluid.

Abstract: A mud pulse telemetry adaptive noise canceler (ANC) employs a primary transducer and a reference transducer downstream from a position of the primary transducer. The primary transducer receives a primary signal based on a combination of a transmitted pulse and a reflected pulse, and the reference transducer receives a reference signal based on the transmitted pulse. The ANC linearly relates the secondary signal to the primary signal by means of a fast recursive least squares algorithm and calculates a set of weighting coefficients. The finite impulse response (FIR) filter of the ANC uses the set of weighting coefficients to adaptively noise cancel correlated portions between the primary signal and the secondary signal to produce an ANC output signal based on uncorrelated portions between the primary signal and the secondary signal.
