  • Publication number: 20020056258
Abstract: Succesive lowermost coupons of a stack in a magazine are withdrawn by suction heads borne by a turnable suction wheel and a pivotable arm to be advanced along one or more arcuate first guides into a second guide which directs the coupons to predetermined positions beneath discrete U-shaped collars of the type forming part of so-called hinged lid packs for confinement of plain or filter cigarettes or other smokers' products. A coupon which has assumed such predetermined position is thereupon expelled from the second guide and is confined, together with the collar and the pack, in an outer envelope of cardboard or the like. An advantage of the method and apparatus is that the collar need not be lifted during advancement of a coupon to its predetermined position to thus reduce the likelihood of misalignment of the collar and the coupon relative to each other preparatory to and during their confinement in the outer envelope of the ultimate product.

The plastic wrapped bales form continuous tubes and have a cross section of at least two substantially rectangular bales stacked in vertical alignment. The air plug is a substantially triangular shaped wedge having two matching concave sides and a third convex side for insertion at the perimeter intersection of two adjacent bales, where the concave sides of the wedge engage the hay and the convex side engages the plastic. The electronic control unit comprises: an estimator for estimating NOx amount occluded in the lean NOx catalyst; means for performing shift-to-rich process responsive to the NOx amount estimated by said estimator exceeding a predetermined value; a calculator for calculating an accumulated value of an exhaust flow amount; and means for completing the shift-to-rich process responsive to the accumulated value of the exhaust flow amount exceeding a threshold value. Completing the shift-to-rich process using the accumulated value of the exhaust flow amount, which is correlated with the amount of the reducing agent (HC, CO), enables the NOx occluded in the lean NOx catalyst to be precisely reduced, and the exhaust gas is cleaned at higher level.

Abstract: Methods, systems, and apparatus consistent with the present invention use a beam of laser energy to concentrically form an optical preform from two or more concentric glass objects, such as two glass tubes or a hollow glass tube and a solid glass rod. The glass objects are placed in a concentric configuration where the outer object has an inner surface that is placed proximate to an outer surface of the inner object. Once these are assembled, a beam of laser energy is generated, positioned, and applied to a starting point in the gap defined by the inner surface and the outer surface. Once the laser beam is applied and is reflecting down into the gap, the beam of laser energy is moved relative to the starting point as the beam is concurrently applied. This heats the inner surface and outer surface so that the two objects can be joined to form the optical preform. In another aspect of the invention, a coating layer is disposed within the gap and can be heated by the laser as it is applied within the gap.

The washing machine comprises: a housing having one open side and partitioned into a plurality of compartments; cabinets which can be drawn out forward through the open side of said housing, each of said cabinets being positioned in each of said compartments; washing baths for washing the laundry, each of said washing baths being positioned within each of said cabinets; and locking means provided between said housing and said cabinets for restraining said cabinet from being drawn out forward from said housing, in which the cabinets are automatically drawn out by only operating a switch installed in an outside wall of the housing. It is prevented that the washing machine falls down as all of the cabinets are drawn out biasing the center of gravity forward.

Abstract: A method for continuously treating unsorted municipal waste to produce a high quality, recycled humus, includes the steps of continuously transporting the waste to a liquid containing soaking tank and, en route, magnetically removing ferrous parts and screening out coarse parts beyond a predefined size, and depositing the remainder of the waste in a liquid containing soaking tank to form a slurry, while continuously skimming off floating matter and removing settled out heavy matter. Dried slurry is continuously subjected to thermomechanical treatment involving high mechanical pressure and high frictional and warping forces, so that the temperature thereof is increased substantially and the microorganism content thereof is changed, rendering the resultant material hygienic, practically germ-free, neutral in odor and loose, springy and full in structure. The resultant material is then heaped into piles for aerobic composting.
