Abstract: A particulate deposit amount Spm on a particulate filter disposed in an exhaust passage is estimated during a usual period different from a regeneration period of the particulate filter and during the regeneration period thereof respectively. An increase value Dpm per unit time of the Spm during the usual period is estimated based upon an engine operating condition and a total amount of the Spm is determined by integration thereof (S15, 16).

Abstract: A filter system for a free-standing air blowing fan having a support stand, motor driven fan blades and a cage about at least portions of the blades, is described. The filter system comprises a filter support hub defined by a solid circumferential wall. The filter support hub is secured about or forms part of the cage. The hub is also provided with filter retention attachments rearwardly thereof for removable securement of a flat annular disc-shaped air filter behind the fan blades and cage. The filter support hub has a projecting air shield front edge projecting forwardly of a central planar axis of the fan blades of the fan to prevent ingress air flow from a front opened end of the filter support hub when the fan is operating. All the ambient air is accordingly drawn from the back through the filter.

Abstract: The apparatus is a spring system on forage harvester feedrolls. The Upper forward feedroll has two concentric springs on each side. The outer spring is operative over the whole range of displacement. The inner spring exerts tensioning force on the feedroll only as of a certain minimal lifting of the feedroll. The rear upper feedroll has one spring on each side. This one spring has a substantially smaller spring force than the forward spring package. The feedroll supporting linkages are arranged with complementary and cooperating cam surfaces which are disposed so that, when the forward feedroll is lifted above a predetermined minimum value, the rearward feedroll is also lifted thereby (to a lesser degree) without even any lifting force from the crop material passing therebelow.

Abstract: The invention provides an improvement to the common leaf and lawn rake in that, with a simple adjustment, the rake can be converted from a pull type rake to a push type rake. The pull rake is required in some circumstances where pushing is not practical. However, being able to adjust the pull rake to a push rake, and any angle in between, gathering leafs or debris of the like will require much less energy and less dexterity. The combination of being able to pull or push the rake so that the tines interact with the ground the same in either mode, enables the user to fully and efficiently clean an area by being able to access all areas and expanding the least amount of energy during the cleaning process.

Abstract: Apparatus and methods allow fused bi-conical couplers to be pulled to reduced diameters to exposes more of the evanescent field in the coupled region. First and second stages hold the fibers on either side of the fused region, with at least one of the stages being moveable relative to the other. A furnace positioned relative to the fused region, and a tensometer is used to determine the tension of the fibers between the stages. A controller is provided to monitor the tension on the fibers and increase the distance between the stages when the tension falls to a predetermined threshold. As the fibers are pulled, light begins to couple from one fiber to the next, leading to five distinct crossover regions. The tension is continuously monitored, and when the tension drops below each threshold, the furnace is slowly pushed back to maintain the tension by decreasing the heat on the fiber from the furnace. As the fiber is pulled through these crossover areas, the coupling region decreases in diameter.

Abstract: An apparatus for stamping sheet metal is disclosed. The apparatus has a lower bolster having a number of air pins disposed at predetermined locations. A first die set having first and second die shoes and a stamping ring and cap are disposed on the lower bolster. The first and second die shoes are matable to form a stamped component. The second die shoe is coupled to the lower bolster so that at least one air pin is operable to apply force to the ring. The system further has third and fourth die shoes which are used to form a second stamped component. The third and fourth die shoes further have a second stamping ring and second cap. The system is such that the third and fourth die shoes can be inserted into the press after the first and second die shoes have been removed. It is not necessary to remove the air pins disposed in the lower bolster to change the die shoes.

Abstract: A slider head of a suspension supports a read/write head for data transfer to and from a data storage disk. Deviation from a pitch static attitude and a roll static attitude of the suspension arises due to manufacturing variations, resulting in inefficient data transfer. The deviation results in pitch and roll errors. Various methods have been provided for correcting the pitch and roll errors. The application of conventional methods using conventional apparatus results in the suspension either being damaged or experiencing bending cross-talk. An embodiment of the invention provides two pairs of probes with each probe having a free end for abutting and thereby cooperating for gripping the suspension. Each pair of probes allows for two degrees-of-freedom for respectively adjusting the roll static attitude and the pitch static attitude of the suspension. The contact configuration of the probes substantially reduces bending cross-talk while substantially alleviating damage to the suspension.

Abstract: The present invention relates to the field of tools used to modify the magazines of firearms. A die and anvil are configured to engage and form the lips of magazines, like that of the M16A4 and M4A1, to correct damage and enhance the feed angle of rounds to improve feeding and accuracy. The die and anvil are provided with a means to align them during the forming process to minimize the attempts necessary to complete the forming process. The anvil is configured to enter from the base of a magazine and to engage the side walls with sufficient tolerance to allow for free movement, but tight enough to detect deformation in the side walls. The anvil can be used as a rigid surface to correct deformation of the side walls with a non-marring tool. The preferred embodiment provides sufficient force to form the feed lips of the magazine without the need for additional tools.
