Abstract: A thermal mixer reduces the temperature of flue gas supplied to a fabric filter. Two spray dry absorbers are operable to cool flue gas. A housing of the mixer has first and second inlet passages for gas from the absorbers, an outlet passage for gas to the fabric filter, and a mixing passage. A set of damper vanes extends in the mixing passage and has a mixing position for mixing the flue gases from the inlet passages to supply mixed gas to the outlet passage at relatively high pressure drop but lower temperature if one of the absorbers in not operating. They have a non-mixing position for passage of gases without mixing and at low pressure drop when both absorbers are operating. The invention can also be used to improve mixing of combined gas streams initially having different chemical compositions or amounts of particle loading.

Abstract: A method for predicting oxygen capacity of an LNT during storage phase of such LNT and the amount of NOx stored in the LNT during purge phase thereof as a function of the time history of an output signal produced by an exhaust gas sensor disposed downstream of the LNT. Oxygen storage capacity of the (LNT) is estimated by integrating output signal over time to determine the amount of oxygen stored in the LNT as function of time. The method includes evaluating the integrated output signal at a time the voltage indicates the exhaust has switched from a condition rich of stoichiometry to a condition lean of stoichiometry. A relative amount of oxygen stored in the LNT is calculated at the switch time. The calculation is a function of the air-fuel ratio of the exhaust and an air-fuel ratio of exhaust leaving the LNT.

Abstract: An apparatus for converting solar energy to electrical energy and continue to generate electricity even when the solar radiation is not available by directing solar radiation to heating plates, which were mostly immersed in a steam generator to induce water temperature, and process water into steam which interacts with steam turbine and generator assembly to produce electricity. The remnant of the steam after steam to electricity conversion is captured by an elevated condensation collector, which is tilted with the lower side attached to a reservoir, the condensed steam descends into the reservoir, which is also elevated and attached by a water collecting system that collects rain and water from other sources.

Abstract: A method for producing power to drive a load (17) using a working fluid circulating through a system that includes a prime mover (12) having an inlet and an accumulator (20) containing discharge fluid exiting the prime mover. A stream of heated vaporized fluid is supplied at relatively high pressure to the prime mover inlet and is expanded through the prime mover (12) to a lower pressure discharge side where discharge fluid enters an accumulator (20). The discharge fluid is vaporized by passing it through an expansion device (28) across a pressure differential to a lower pressure than the pressure at the prime mover discharge side. Latent heat of condensation in the discharge fluid being discharged from the prime mover is transferred by a heat exchanger (14) to discharge fluid that has passed through the expansion device (28).

Abstract: An integrated-cycle power system and method, comprising thermal transfer assembly, recuperating heat exchanger assembly, heat integrator, thermal conduit assembly and gas turbine. The thermal transfer assembly receives heat emitted from the effluent of a heat source, wherein the heat is preferably in the form of high temperature gas. Within the thermal transfer assembly, the energy of the high temperature gas is transferred to a conductive medium carried within a thermal conduit assembly. Due to a thermal potential between the augmenting heat source effluent and the heat integrator, the augmenting heat-source energy is transferred to the heat integrator, wherein energy from a novel recuperating heat exchange assembly is integrated therewith and introduced into the combustion chamber of a gas turbine. The recuperating heat exchanger assembly receives exhaust heat from the gas turbine and recuperates this energy via the heat integrator back into the combustion chamber of the gas turbine.

Abstract: A new thermodynamic cycle is disclosed for converting energy from a low temperature stream, external source into useable energy using a working fluid comprising of a mixture of a low boiling component and a higher boiling component and including a higher pressure circuit and a lower pressure circuit. The cycle is designed to improve the efficiency of the energy extraction process by recirculating a portion of a liquid stream prior to further cooling. The new thermodynamic processes and systems for accomplishing these improved efficiencies are especially well-suited for streams from low-temperature geothermal sources.

Abstract: A magnetocaloric refrigeration device, placed in a controllable magnetic field, includes a heat release/absorption module. The heat release/absorption module includes a magnetocaloric working unit and at least one heat pipe. The magnetocaloric working unit is made of a magnetocaloric material. The temperature of the unit changes as the magnetic field is applied or removed. The heat pipe includes evaporation and condensation portions respectively extending from top and bottom of the magnetocaloric working unit. When a magnetic field is applied to the magnetocaloric working unit to absorb heat, the lower condensation portion of the heat pipe transfers heat upward to the magnetocaloric working unit. When the magnetic field is removed from the magnetocaloric working unit to release heat, the heat from the magnetocaloric working unit is transferred to the outside through the upper heat release portion. The magnetocaloric refrigeration device has advantages of simple structure, low production cost, and small size.

A conduit is connected to an outlet of the air supplying chamber, and sticks outside the housing. Air is forced to travel through the air supplying chamber by means of an air pump, and is guided to outside by means of the conduit; thus, the air traveling through the chamber can have temperature changed by the cold producing plates, and can be conveyed to desired locations or into other objects for use.

Abstract: Apparatus to provide effective removal of heat from a high power density device. The apparatus has a heat spreader and a heat sink structure. The heat spreader is divided into one or more chambers. Electromagnetic pumps are placed inside each chamber in a configuration that facilitates easy circulation of liquid metal inside the chamber. The liquid metal preferably is an alloy of gallium and indium that has high electrical conductivity and high thermal conductivity. The liquid metal carries heat from a localized area (over the high power density device) and distributes it over the entire spreader. This results in a uniform distribution of heat on the base of the heat sink structure and hence effective removal of heat by the heat sink structure.
