Abstract: Nail clippers having both shielded cutting blades to prevent intentional or accidental injury and an integral means for collecting clipped nails. The nail clippers include two hollow cylindrical housings each having both a closed and open end. The edges of the open ends of both housings each have a corresponding concave sharpened section, forming the cutting edges of a nail clipping slot. The housings are both slideably connected to and spring biased against each other. A nail inserted into the nail clipping slot is clipped by squeezing the housings together. Clipped nails are collected in the closed end of one of the housings. The closed end may be opened and/or removed to discard the clippings.

Abstract: A long blade of a knife has first and second working end portions disposed at opposite sides of the blade central portion. The central portion of the blade is pivotally attached to a handle such that, in a first position, the first working end portion is exposed for use and the second working end portion extends along the handle, and in a second position, the second end portion of the blade is exposed for use and the first end portion of the blade extends along the handle. A spring biased locking mechanism is provided to retain the blade in either of the first or second positions.

Abstract: A retaining assembly is provided for a tensioning arrangement for adjusting the tension of the cutting chain in the chain saw. The retaining assembly includes a rotatable knob that operates in conjunction with the chain saw's engine chassis, clutch cover, and guide bar and is rotatable about an axis of rotation between a tightening position for holding the guide bar in place and a loosening position enabling the guide bar to be repositioned whereby the tension in the cutting chain is adjusted. A locking mechanism is provided for locking and unlocking the knob for rotational movement. When the locking mechanism is in a locking position, moveable engagement points of the locking mechanism extended beyond the confines of the knob and engage fixed engagement points. When the locking mechanism is in the unlocking position, the moveable engagement points, having moved inwardly of the confines of the knob, are disengaged from the fixed engagement points.

Abstract: A probe head includes a housing and a probe element. The probe element has a longitudinal axis and stop faces and is able to shift from a rest position along the longitudinal axis into a stop position relative to the housing. The probe head further includes counter-support faces, which are arranged in a stationary manner relative to the housing. For limiting the path of the probe element, in a stop position, the stop faces of the probe element contact the counter-support faces at stop points. In the rest position, a geometric plane may be spanned orthogonally with respect to the longitudinal axis of the probe element. The stop points are arranged such that in the stop position, the longitudinal axis intersects the geometric plane at an oblique angle.

Abstract: An elastic fixture which is employed for attaching a length measuring apparatus to an object to be measured having a different linear expansion coefficient therefrom. The elastic fixture is elastically deformable in the lengthwise direction of the length measuring apparatus. The elastic fixture includes a sheet-metal curved beam having one end fixedly attached to the length measuring apparatus and the other end fixedly attached to the object to be measured. The sizes and the machining accuracy of the elastic fixture are less restricted, and the elastic fixture can be manufactured easily. In addition, the elastic fixture is applicable to relatively severe temperature environments in a manual machine tool or the like. Further, the sizes and the cost of the elastic fixture can be reduced as compared with a parallel spring mechanism.

Abstract: A linear scale attachment device for holding and securely attaching a linear scale on an object to be measured is disclosed. The device includes an aluminum base formed with a holding groove having a larger opening than the width of a linear scale that is fitted in this groove, and a retainer for preventing the linear scale fitted in the holding groove from falling off. The base is permanently attached to the object at one location in the lengthwise direction, and resiliently attached at one or more other locations such as to be pressed in the X and Y directions using a cantilever plate spring. While using an aluminum base, the attachment device allows easy attachment and maintenance of the scale and relieves the effect of thermal stress caused by a difference in the thermal expansion coefficient between the aluminum base and the object.

The washing machine may also include a humidity regulating part which reduces the humidity of the inner air as it is discharged. Thus, the washing machine improves efficiency of heat exchange between the inner air and the external air through the heat exchanger.

Each of these center rings is defined in a frame so as to penetrate through, and the frame comprises a surface contact recess formed at a lower side of the frame for allowing the frame to come into partial contact with an outer peripheral surface of the fishing rod or with a mount ring slidably fitted around the fishing rod, and a guiding groove formed along an outer periphery of the frame for winding a thread around the frame and the fishing rod so as to fix them relative to each other. The present invention can simplify the center ring structure by allowing the center ring itself to be affixed to the fishing rod, and can allow adjustment of the distance between the center ring and the fishing rod through variation in shape and size of a center ring aperture formed in the frame.

The downrigger apparatus includes a reel and a downrigger cable spooled on the reel. The free end of the downrigger cable extends to a depth beyond the selected fishing depth. A downrigger weight is attached at the free end of the cable. A sound emitting device is attached to the downrigger cable and emits sounds attractive to the fish. Sound waves travel through the water a range extending beyond the visual range of the fish. Fish, although out of visual range of the lure, detect the sound and travel toward the source. The fish eventually comes in to visual range of the lure being trolled behind the fishing boat. The fish is attracted to and takes the lure. The sound emitting device can generate intermittent sounds.

Because the tail can be released, fish caught on hooks can be released quickly, and new tails with new hooks rapidly attached to the same head. A tail including a drag chute released by a fish strike, attachable to the same head, is also disclosed. A dive wing, attachable to the removable tails, is also disclosed. The PPD comprises a retaining clip, an outer wall, an inner wall, and a floor containing a plurality of holes. Alternatively, a semi-permeable material can be substituted for the floor and holes. The inner wall, outer wall, and floor create a U-shaped channel which contains a planting medium. At least one second plant may be planted in the planting medium in the U-shaped channel. The PPD may be a complete circle or may be comprised of several sections, which together can form a circle. The holes in the floor are sized such that excess water will pass through the holes and irrigate the planting medium in the pot, but the planting medium in the U-shaped will not pass through the holes.

Abstract: An improved method for synthesizing superabrasive particles provides high quality industrial superabrasive particles with high yield and a narrow size distribution. The synthesis method can include forming a growth precursor of a substantially homogeneous mixture of raw material and catalyst material or layers of raw material and metal catalyst. The growth precursor can have a layer of adhesive over at least a portion thereof. A plurality of crystalline seeds can be placed in a predetermined pattern on the layer of adhesive. The growth precursor can be maintained at a temperature and pressure at which the superabrasive crystal is thermodynamically stable for a time sufficient for a desired degree of growth. Advantageously, the patterned placement of crystalline seeds and disclosed processes allow for production of various morphologies of synthetic diamonds, including octahedral and cubic diamonds, and improved growth conditions generally.
