Abstract: A system and method for engine control and diagnostics are described. The engine system may include an engine having a catalyst in the exhaust system, the exhaust system further having an exhaust gas oxygen sensor upstream of the catalyst and downstream of the catalyst. In one example, the method may include during a first operating mode in which catalyst diagnostics are not carried out, adjusting air-fuel ratio based on both the upstream and downstream exhaust gas oxygen sensors, where air-fuel ratio adjustment responsiveness to the downstream sensor is reduced as the catalyst performance degrades; and during a second operating mode that includes catalyst diagnostics, adjusting air-fuel ratio based on at least the downstream exhaust gas oxygen sensor, where said air-fuel ratio adjustment responsiveness to the downstream sensor is temporarily increased from said reduction generated during the first operating mode.

Abstract: One concept relates to a method of controlling fuel reforming within an internal combustion engine exhaust line. Fuel injections are controlled using a predicted temperature, the predicted temperature being a temperature that would occur at some point in the future if predetermined assumptions are met. Preferably, the prediction is made using a model that includes terms for hydrocarbon storage and subsequent reaction within the reformer. The method improves reformer temperature control, particularly over periods during which the fuel supply to the reformer is pulsed. The scope of the invention also includes methods wherein a temperature is not specifically predicted, provided the control method takes into account hydrocarbon storage and subsequent reaction.

Abstract: A diesel particulate filter of a motor vehicle is cleaned of ash, typically using equipment already available in a service shop. The filter apparatus is disconnected from the exhaust system of a motor vehicle. The filter apparatus is reversed and reconnected to the motor vehicle's exhaust system in a configuration opposite to which the filter apparatus was originally connected. The engine is started and allowed to run at a high idle and no load engine speed to blow ash from the diesel particulate filter into the exit tubing. The ash is then collected in an ash collector.

Any type of heat source can be utilized such as “ambient air” which is preferred, or the like. The system incorporates fluids namely, a liquid refrigerant and hot oil. The unusual new end results are accomplished when the liquid refrigerant and hot oil are mixed together resulting in a physical reaction that produces intense (P.S.I.'s) and highly pressurized foam which in turn provides lubrication and produces usable energy that can be used to power the system and/or transferred to a rotary shaft for work. Also, the system may be easily used for refrigeration or air conditioning purposes.

Abstract: A clearance volume valve for controlling cylinder compression at varying engine speeds in a steam engine. At the injector of each cylinder, a clearance volume valve is hydraulically operated in response to changes in engine RPMs to thereby control opening and closing of an inlet to a sealed tube that extends from each cylinder of the engine. At lower engine RPMs, the clearance volume valve opens the tube inlet to increase the volume of the cylinder, thereby lowering compression and relieving back pressure against an incoming change of super-heated steam. At higher engine RPMs, the clearance volume valve is hydraulically operated to close the tube inlet, thereby reducing the total clearance volume and raising the cylinder compression for greater efficiency at higher engine speeds.

Abstract: This invention is a water producer that extracts water from the air. One embodiment of the invention adiabatically compresses and heats the air. The heated air is cooled through a counter-flow heat exchanger so that it becomes supersaturated and water condenses. The air is then cooled further and passed back through the heat exchanger to recover its former heat. It then passes through an adiabatic expander to recover energy. A second embodiment utilizes a unique isothermal compressor/expander to compress the humid air isothermally so that the air becomes supersaturated with water, and the water condenses. The air is then cooled to remove the heat of condensation of the water and returned to the isothermal compressor/expander to recover energy. A third embodiment draws in humid air through a counter-flow heat exchanger to cool it down below its dew point so that water is collected.

Abstract: A device for moving a shutter for blocking and diverting an air stream, in climate control apparatuses, comprising a rotating element actuated by an electric motor and pivoted to a containment frame for at least part of the machine body of a climate control apparatus, a first end of a traction and pusher cable being rigidly coupled to the rotating element, its opposite end being rigidly coupled to the louver of a shutter of the louver type to be moved. The cable is arranged slidable within a sheath fixed to the frame by means of two brackets, a first one proximate to the rotating element and a second one at the opening which can be closed by the louver.

Abstract: A refrigerator incorporates a dual swing door including a dual hinge mechanism. The dual hinge mechanism includes a lock bar having a first end portion and a second end portion joined by an intermediate portion. Each of the first and second end portions includes first and second lobe elements. The hinge mechanism also includes a hinge plate having a first end section and a second section joined by an intermediate section. Each of the first and second end sections include a wedge member and a rudder member. The hinge plate further includes first and second hinge pins, mounted to corresponding ones of the first and second end sections, that define left and right pivot axes for the door. The rudder and wedge members interact with the first lobes to automatically force one of the second lobes into engagement with a respective hinge pin to establish a desired hinge axis for pivoting of the door.

Abstract: A receptacle for maintaining the temperature of its contents. The body of the receptacle is constructed of a triple-walled, dual chamber enclosure. This dual chamber enclosure is comprised of an inner chamber and an adjacent outer chamber occupied, respectively, by a gel and a gaseous matter. Temperature regulating properties of the gel contained within the inner chamber are insulated by the adjacent outer chamber, permitting the temperature regulating properties of the gel to last for a longer period of time.

Abstract: A design for equipment and process for reliquefaction of LNG boiloff gas, primarily for shipboard installation, has high thermodynamic efficiency and lower capital cost, smaller size (volume, footprint), lower weight, and less need for maintenance than systems utilizing the prior art. The main refrigerant gas compressor is reduced to a single stage turbocompressor. Optional elements include: compression of boiloff gas at ambient temperature; compression of boiloff gas in one or two stages; turboexpansion of refrigerant gas incorporating one or two turboexpanders; turboexpander energy recovery by mechanical loading, compressor drive, or electric generator; refrigerant sidestream for cooling at the lowest temperatures.

Abstract: A hollow ring design which may be formed by stamping a shank and stamping a top piece is provided. The shank is formed with a comfort fit, such as a convex configuration, along its inside surface and with a non-planar recess, such as a concave, rectangular or square hollow configuration, at least along a portion of its outside surface. A top piece is also stamped along its inside surface and is thus formed with non-planar recess, such as a concave, rectangular or square hollow configuration, opposite that of the recess of the shank. The top piece is configured and sized to fit onto the shank without any need to force fit one piece to the other, while at the same time forming an arcuate channel inside the ring to reduce the cost of materials.

Abstract: The inventive setting has a plurality of prongs, each of the prongs having at least one, preferably two, longitudinal grooves adapted to accommodate a girdle of one or more subordinate stones. A top stone is retained by all of the prongs and bears down on the subordinate stones, so that the top stone keeps the at least one subordinate stone in place in the prongs. As the girdle of the subordinate stones is retained in the grooves of adjacent prongs, the tables of the subordinate stones faces outward between the prongs. Support beads projecting from the prongs may be provided for support on one or both sides of the girdle of the subordinate stones.

Abstract: A molding operation produces an extractor array by providing a mold having a plurality of cavities therein, each cavity being adapted to form an extractor suitable for coupling to an LED die; filling the mold with a plurality of glass particles; heating the glass particles above glass transition temperatures thereof so that the particles are reshaped to conform to the cavity shapes; and forming a land layer that extends between the cavities. The land layer maintains the extractors in a fixed spatial relationship with each other for subsequent handling or processing, such as a simultaneous polishing operation or in attaching the extractor array to a corresponding LED array.
