Abstract: A cooling, carbonation and dispensing system for use with a liquid in a keg includes a cooling ring mounted on top of the keg. The cooling ring includes a toroidal-shaped shell into which dry ice is placed. The cooling ring and dry ice provide contact cooling of the keg, as well as carbon dioxide gas by sublimation of the dry ice to carbonate the liquid in the keg and pressure on the liquid so that it may be dispensed from the keg. A chilling unit having a hose bundle is mounted on top of the cooling ring. A liquid dispensing hose from the keg coupler on the keg connects to the hose bundle, so that liquid from the keg passes through the hose bundle. A lid having a tower is attached to the top of the chilling unit and latched to it to form a water-tight seal. Another hose connects to the hose bundle in the chilling unit and conducts the liquid to a dispensing hose attached to a dispenser in the tower.

Straightness of the workpiece is measured by gripping the workpiece at a pair of longitudinally spaced supports, applying tension to a longitudinally extending horizontal portion of the workpiece between the supports, and continuously moving the workpiece in the travel direction at the travel speed with a lower surface of the portion substantially unsupported. At least periodically a vertical spacing is measured between the portion and a straight longitudinal reference line extending in the direction between the supports parallel to the workpiece at the supports. Abstract: When rolling hot-rolled strips, different draughts per pass might occur during the rolling operation over the length of the roll gap, due to changes in the hardness of the rolling stock, to the roll gap itself or to the geometry of the incoming rolling stock. These different draughts per pass lead to lateral deviations and shifts of the rolling stock in the roll stand and to a lateral banding of the outgoing hot-rolled strip. In order to avoid these defects by intentionally influencing the geometry of the rough-rolled strip, it is proposed to interconnect in at least one roughing-down stand a dynamic positioning in the roughing-down stock (1) with fast and powerful lateral guides (8,9) arranged before and after the roughing-down stand (1), by corresponding regulation operations, in such a way that a grainy or tapering bloom (4) is shaped into a straight and taper-free roughed-down strip (5) in one or more passes, in continuous or reciprocating operation.

Abstract: The invention relates to a method for calibrating the relative content (RH) of water. According to the invention, at least one calibration point is defined at a known partial pressure (Pw) of water vapour and sensor temperature of the sensor. According to the invention, at the same known partial pressure (Pw) of water the sensor (2) is heated and, at least one increased temperature point, both the relative content (RH) and the temperature (T) are measured simultaneously.

Abstract: A method for calibrating a weighing system of a blast furnace top hopper and a corresponding weighing system are disclosed. The method comprises the step of using at least one actuator for exerting a vertical net force with a certain magnitude onto the hopper, so as to simulate a certain weight of charge material in the hopper; and the step of determining the magnitude of the vertical net force. According to the invention, the method further comprises the step of determining the magnitude of a pressure exerting a lifting force onto said hopper and the step of using the determined magnitude of the vertical net force and the determined magnitude of the pressure to establish calibration data for the weighing system.

Abstract: A leak in a membrane on top of a horizontal roof deck is located by applying conductive wires on the membrane underneath the aggregate in a grid pattern. A measuring and switching circuit generates voltage having a positive attached to the roof deck and a negative attached to the wires. The circuit has a relay for each wire which can be switched between a current sensor system and the negative potential. The sensor system is arranged to sense at each of the wires in turn the current flowing from the roof deck through any leak in the membrane to the wire. A microprocessor operates the relays in turn to connect all the other wires to the negative as a shield while each wire is sensed. From the output of the grid the changes in current in the x and y directions are analyzed to locate the leak in the membrane.

Abstract: A hollow container defining a sample chamber is formed of at least two parts which fit together and have apertures therein. One of the parts is displaceable relative to the other part between a first relative disposition of the parts in which the apertures are open so as to provide a clear path for air to pass through the container and a second relative disposition of the parts in which the apertures are closed so that there is no path for air to pass through and a volume of air is trapped in the chamber. In one embodiment part is axially moveable relative to the other part. In another embodiment where the parts are tubular, one of the parts is rotatable relative to the other.

Abstract: An inlet conduit (32) connects to aerosol source (100) of an initial particle concentration. A first flow path having particle counter (62) connects to inlet conduit (32). A second flow path (36) connects to the inlet conduit (32) and branches to form third flow path (38) and fourth flow path (40) which meet at junction (50). A flow restrictor (42) is positioned in the third flow path (38). Filter (44) and a flow meter (46) are connected in the fourth flow path. An outlet path (52) connects to the junction (50). A low particle counter (54), a second filter (56) and a second flow meter (58) are positioned in the outlet path. The system can accurately perform a traceable measurement of the dilution factor of an aerosol particle concentration traceable to national standards and allows for traceable measurements of aerosol concentrations below the dynamic range of a given particle counter.

Abstract: In a linear transport device (30) for tear-off lids (20), the latter are tested for the impermeability of the seal and the foil in a test device (9) that is integrated into the linear transport device. The lid is fixed between a pressure chamber (43) and a measuring chamber (47, 48, 49) in an airtight manner and a test pressure is applied to the lid from the underside. An air-permeable support (47) in the measuring chamber exerts pressure on the upper face of the lid and any increase in air pressure in the measuring chamber caused by a degree of permeability is detected and evaluated by a sensor (55). A burst test can be carried out in the same test device.
