    Abstract: A cutter is capable of cutting a pipe-shaped object so as to produce a cut surface which is almost perfectly perpendicular to a longitudinal direction of the pipe-shaped object. A blade has a disc-shaped base plate having a blade edge on an outer periphery of the base plate, a level surface perpendicular to an axis of rotation of the base plate, and a sloped surface opposite the level surface and inclined with respect to the level surface so that a thickness of the blade increases toward a central portion of the blade. The sloped surface is shaped such that an angle of inclination of an outer peripheral portion of the sloped surface with respect to the level surface is larger than an angle of inclination of a remaining portion of the sloped surface with respect to the level surface. The level surface has fine grooves thereon.

    Abstract: The tape measure apparatus has a rule blade that is retractably stored in the tape measure apparatus and protrudes when extended during use. For measurements, the rule blade has graduated indicia markings along the rule blade. An end-piece attached to the rule blade has an aperture for receiving a marking instrument to mark and scribe on a work piece and a blade slot for receiving and supporting a blade. There is also a protective shield guide that protects the fingers from slivers and cuts. It has a pivot attachment between the protective shield and the guide. The pivot moves the protective shield into a stored position generally parallel to the rule blade, and in a working position generally perpendicular the rule blade. The guide is slidable along the rule blade. The entire protective shield guide slidably moves into the housing. Thus, the entire protective shield guide disappears and is protected from any outside force by being inside the housing when not in use.

    Abstract: Disclosed is a hydrothermal treatment process for conversion of a carbon-based energy carrier material. The process comprises a step for sensitizing or activating the carbon based energy carrier material to increase its susceptibility to hydrothermal conversion. As a result of the sensitization step, the hydrothermal conversion step itself may be carried out under relatively mild conditions. The process comprises the steps of sensitizing the carbon-based energy carrier material to increase its susceptibility to hydrothermal conversion; and subjecting the sensitized carbon-based energy carrier material to hydrothermal conversion at a temperature of less than 300 degrees centigrade in a hydrothermal treatment reactor.
