    Abstract: Isopipes (13) for making a glass or a glass-ceramic using a fusion process are provided. The isopipes are made from an alumina material which has a higher static fatigue than existing alumina materials intended for use as isopipes. In particular, the alumina materials have times-to-failure (static fatigues) of greater than one hour at 1200° C. at an applied stress of 10,000 psi. These high levels of static fatigue allow alumina isopipes to replace zircon isopipes in the manufacture of high performance glass sheets by the fusion process, including glass sheets which are incompatible with zircon isopipes but compatible with alumina isopipes, e.g., chip and scratch resistant glass sheets which have high alkali contents.

    Abstract: A flaw detection testing device that carries out a flaw detection test on an outer peripheral surface of a clinched portion used to fix an inner ring member of a hub unit to a hub spindle includes: a flaw detection sensor; a clearance setting member that contacts the outer peripheral surface of the clinched portion to set a clearance between the flaw detection sensor and the outer peripheral surface of the clinched portion at a predetermined value; a fixing device that fixes a position of the flaw detection sensor with the clearance between the flaw detection sensor and the outer peripheral surface kept at the predetermined value; and an actuating device that moves the clearance setting member in such a direction that the clearance setting member is separated from the outer peripheral surface of the clinched portion with the position of the flaw detection sensor fixed by the fixing device.

Measuring the measuring areas furnishes no more accurate information with regard to the curing level of ink combinations in the actual printed image which differ from the combinations of the measuring areas of the print process control strip. A level-of-curing control area is provided, which is formed by overprinting preferably at least four printing inks, in each case in full tone, to obtain statements relating to the curing level of the printing inks with the print process control strip. Measuring the level-of-curing control area provides information about the curing level of all printing ink combinations in the printed image.

    Abstract: Computers with proper programs generate signals in phased array sequence. In pulsers with delays, signals are fed through a multiplexor into multiple water wedges attached to a valve being tested. For a sequential operation of the valves from the open to the closed position, ultrasonic signals are transmitted through fluid contained in the valve and reflected back through piezo-electric crystals to the multiplexor. By summation and merger of the signals, an image can be developed of the operation of the valve to determine if the valve is operating properly. By using multiple water wedges and pass visualization software, the operator can see exactly how the valve is functioning, which information can be stored for inspections or maintenance.
