Abstract: The present invention deals with the serious pollution problems from electric power plants that burn coal which may be forced to shut down by virtue of their being uneconomical to be retrofitted with expensive pollution controls. The pollutants from coal-burning power stations comprise SO2, NOx, Hg, Particulate Matter, Ash, and CO2. This invention offers a unique and comprehensive solution that makes possible the prevention of the ill-effects currently caused to health and environment while at the same time would also prevent the closure of these badly needed power generation facilities that provide some 50% of the electricity generated in this country. The herein comprehensive solution converts the six mentioned pollutants into valuable products and thus avoids the discharge of such pollutants into the atmosphere.

Abstract: Disclosed herein is an approach that uses a motor protection system to assist in determining power plant metrics. In one aspect, a motor protection system obtains operational data from motor-driven sub-processes operating within a power plant. A controller receives the operational data and determines power plant metrics that may include net power plant output and costs each of the motor-driven sub-processes has on the overall operation of the power plant. In another aspect, the controller may partition the power metrics into one or more user-specified groupings for viewing thereof.

Abstract: In a power plant which is equipped with a gas turbine, fuel for the gas turbine is preheated by means of solar heat. The preheating is realized through the use of a heat transfer circuit. The use of an additional, second heat transfer circuit between the source for the solar heat and the first heat transfer circuit permits storage of the solar heat. The fuel preheating according to the invention permits in particular an increase in the efficiency of the power plant.

Abstract: A flow balancing valve for a multistage combustor includes a first pressure feedback line, a first burn line, and a first metering port fluidly connected to the first fuel injector. The flow balancing valve further includes a second pressure feedback line, a second burn line, and a second metering port fluidly connected to the second fuel injector. A metering land is located between and defines sizes of the first metering port and the second metering port. An increase in pressure differential between the first pressure feedback line and the second pressure feedback line causes a compensatory movement in the metering land to balance fuel flow for the first fuel injector and the second fuel injector.
