Abstract: Active air-fuel ratio control is performed to alternately control an air-fuel ratio in an area located upstream of a catalyst between a lean side and a rich side. The amount of oxygen absorbed and released by the catalyst during lean control and rich control of the air-fuel ratio is measured. When an output from the post-catalyst sensor reaches a predetermined threshold, switching is carried out between the lean control and the rich control, and the measurement of the amount of oxygen is ended. The threshold is set to be reached before the output from the post-catalyst sensor reaches a predetermined reference value. Whether the catalyst is normal or abnormal is determined based on the amount of oxygen measured until the output from the post-catalyst sensor reaches the threshold and behavior of the output from the post-catalyst sensor observed after the output from the post-catalyst sensor reaches the threshold.

Abstract: A method for detecting whether an injector with a valve controlled by a PWM signal of an SCR system is clogged, the SCR system including a rotary positive-displacement pump driven by a motor and pressure of which is controlled by a controller that continuously measures rotational speed of the motor and pressure at an outlet of the pump. During operation of the SCR system at a given pressure: the associated average rotational speed is measured; the speed is held at the measured value; a curve of a change in pressure is compared to reference curves stored in a memory and a condition of the injector, for example whether the injector is clogged or not, is deduced therefrom.

Abstract: A wind tunnel device defines a cyclical tunnel to receive continuous airflow. Airflow is delivered through the tunnel to a testing region that includes a first portion carrying an arm including a spray tip configured to spray particulates in the testing region at an angle, and a second portion including an enlarged cutout region configured to receive the angled sprayed particulates. As airflow carries the angled spray particulates into the second portion, the enlarged cutout region enables the spray particulates to pass through and exit the second portion of the testing region. Analysis in the second region may be conducted through transparent walls free of openings to minimize exposure of the spray particulates to the exterior of the device. A scrubber is adapted to extract spray mist from the airflow as the airflow exits the testing region and is re-circulated through the cyclical tunnel.

Thus, the peak level and a value indicative of the degree of change in the waveform are considered to determine whether the waveform is caused by a strike. A waveform with a small peak level caused by a weak strike is not erroneously detected as noise, while accurate detection of strikes can be obtained.

Abstract: A pedal assembly having an assistance device. In some implementations the assistance device comprises a profile fixed to the arm of a pedal, the arm of the pedal being pivotally coupled to a support. The profile includes an elongate curved surface that is acted upon by a spring-actuated lever attached to the support. In operation as the pedal arm is moved between a rest position and one or more active positions, the lever applies a force to the arm through the profile by acting upon on one or more portions of the elongate curved surface, the direction of the force applied to the arm being dependent upon the portion of the elongate curved surface being acted upon by the lever.

Abstract: This mixed powder for powder metallurgy, the powder having excellent fluidity and minimal graphite powder scattering, can be obtained relatively conveniently by mixing fine graphite having an average grain diameter of 4 ?m or less with an iron based powder. The process is performed without the addition of a binder and while shearing force is applied. It is preferable that the fine graphite have an average grain diameter of 2.4 ?m or less and be wet-milled. A portion of the fine graphite is preferably added in place of at least one constituent selected from the group consisting of carbon black, fullerene, carbon compounds carbonized by baking, and graphite having an average grain diameter of 5 ?m or more.
