Publication number: 20130269508Abstract: A shock wave barrier comprises a periodic structure having the proper symmetry and local contrast modulation of the acoustic index to divert an incident shock wave by using constructive/destructive interference phenomena that produce a “band gap” in the transmission spectrum of the periodic structure. In general, shock wave energy within the band gap is reflected from the structure. Defect cavities may be formed in the periodic structure to create transmission resonances or “windows” in the band gap. A portion of the incident energy passes through the window and is concentrated in the defect cavities where it is dissipated by other means. The band gap can be quite wide, at least 50% of the center wavelength, and thus can provide an effective barrier from a wide variety of threats with varying blast pressure and range. The structure may be periodic in two or three dimensions providing a band gap barrier in two or three dimensions, respectively.Type: ApplicationFiled: April 25, 2011Publication date: October 17, 2013Inventors: DELMAR L. The circumferential wall of the moving piston unit has a pair of skirt parts opposing each other across a piston boss and a pair of side-wall parts coupling the skirt parts and each having an outer circumferential surface concaved toward the central axis X1 of the piston. The side-wall parts have a penetration part each, which penetrates the side-wall part and extends in the directions the moving piston unit reciprocates with respect to the base piston unit. The base piston unit has rotation preventing projections that project perpendicular to the central axis of the piston and are inserted into the penetration parts.Type: ApplicationFiled: December 22, 2011Publication date: October 17, 2013Applicant: MITSUBISHI JIDOSHA KOGYO KABUSHIKI KAISHAInventors: Kazushi Miyamoto, Hirofumi Higashi, Jun Hoshikawa, Akihiro Fujimoto, Noritsugu Ohsawa, Kiminari Kato, Seiji Matsuda

Publication number: 20130269516Abstract: A linear actuator is provided having a housing with a bore having at least first and second portions extending therethrough. The second portion has a polygonal geometry with substantially rounded corners having at least one planar bearing surface. A shaft is in sliding engagement with the first portion of the bore, and a piston member is operatively coupled to the shaft. The piston member has a mating geometry to the second portion of the bore, wherein the piston member is in sliding engagement with the second portion of the bore. An anti-rotation member is coupled to the piston member or shaft and has a generally D-shaped geometry with a planar anti-rotation bearing surface. Contact between the anti-rotation member and the housing is limited to a sliding engagement between the anti-rotation bearing surface and one of the at least one bearing surfaces based on an orientation of the anti-rotation member.Type: ApplicationFiled: April 16, 2012Publication date: October 17, 2013Applicant: ZAYTRAN, INC.Inventors: Theodore S. Publication number: 20130269517Abstract: A linear actuator has a housing with a bore extending therethrough. A first portion of the bore extends into the housing from a first end, and a second portion of the bore extends into the housing from a second end of the housing. The second portion of the bore has a rectangular geometry with substantially rounded corners when viewed from the second end. A shaft is in sliding engagement with the first portion of the housing. A piston member is coupled to the shaft and has a rectangular geometry with substantially rounded corners. The piston member is in sliding engagement with a first interior surface of the second portion of the bore via one or more o-rings. An anti-rotation apparatus is associated with one or more of the piston member and the shaft, wherein the anti-rotation member generally prevents a rotation of the shaft with respect to the housing.Type: ApplicationFiled: April 24, 2013Publication date: October 17, 2013Applicant: ZAYTRAN, Inc.Inventors: Theodore Stanley Zajac, JR., David Moore Zajac, Steven Eric Wallace, Cory David Trent

Publication number: 20130269518Abstract: A device for purifying air from non-desired gases and particles, in the case of nuclear power plants from radiating particles and gaseous iodine, and for extermination of microorganisms and removal from the air. The device includes a purifying chamber through which the air to be purified is arranged to flow. In the structurally grounded purifying chamber ionized air (1) is led to a water dust or vapor which can be oxidized with hydrogen peroxide (6) and by increasing the voltage level of the ionization to produce ozone and to be led further to high voltage operated ion blast tips (8) producing a continuous ion jet, which is directed onto collecting surfaces (9) and taking with it droplets, particulate materials and gaseous components connected to them. The volume of the air to be purified determines the shape and volume of the purifying device.Type: ApplicationFiled: July 14, 2011Publication date: October 17, 2013Applicant: AAVI TECHNOLOGIES LTDInventor: Veikko Ilmari Ilmasti

Publication number: 20130269521Abstract: [Object(s)] To provide an adsorbent which achieves a low-emission performance while maintaining the adsorption performance for adsorbing an evaporated fuel component, a canister comprising the adsorbent, and a method for reducing evaporated fuel emission. [Means to Solve the Problems] A second adsorbent (e.g., a granule) filled in a second compartment disposed in a downstream side with respect to a first compartment comprises an activated carbon as an adsorption site and a solid diluent as a non-adsorption site. The adsorbent has a difference in n-butane adsorption volume of not less than 35 g/L between a n-butane vapor concentration of 5% by volume and a n-butane vapor concentration of 50% by volume measured at 25° C., a butane working capacity measured in accordance with ASTM D5228 of not less than 8 g/dL, and a butane desorption rate of not less than 45% when a purge air amount measured in accordance with ASTM D5228 is 30 bed volumes of the adsorbent volume.Type: ApplicationFiled: February 7, 2013Publication date: October 17, 2013Inventor: Kuraray Chemical Co., Ltd.

Publication number: 20130269522Abstract: A humidity control system including a heat pump with desiccant coated passive heat transfer devices on both sides of the heat pump and an air circulation system for alternately directing a process air stream to be humidity controlled and a separate regenerative air stream past each side. As desiccant on one side becomes laden with moisture, the air streams are redirected to the opposite sides of the heat pump so the regenerative stream can remove moisture from the first side. Simultaneously, the air stream to be humidity controlled uses the previously regenerated desiccant on the second side.Type: ApplicationFiled: December 20, 2010Publication date: October 17, 2013Applicant: Carrier CorporationInventor: Timothy D.
