Abstract: An apparatus for removal of waste material in a process for extracting puree, or juice, from a starting product based on vegetable or animal food including a step of feeding a measured amount of starting product to a machine for extracting puree. The starting product can be pre-treated, for example softened, and then subject to an extraction step, obtaining a main product including the puree, which is discharged via a first outlet, and a waste material that is discharged via a second outlet. The waste material is then mixed with a measured amount of a liquid, for example water, obtaining a heterogeneous mixture. The heterogeneous mixture can be thus easily removed by suction, for example by a hydraulic pump connected to the second outlet, to be quickly withdrawn from the extraction section avoiding the risk of jamming the machine at the second outlet.

Abstract: Methods and apparatus are described herein related to an environmental monitoring system configured to avoid spoilage of goods by alerting a supervisor to hazardous conditions. A cigar humidor may be monitored by placing a cigar-shaped and cigar-sized sensor-equipped component made from metal or cedar wood inside the humidor amongst the cigars. The sensors monitor a plurality of parameters, of which relative humidity is of particular importance for cigar humidors. One hazardous condition, which is tracked by the system is the absence of an airing event for a period greater than a pre-configured interval. Once an airing event has been absent for a long enough time period, either a pre-alert or a full alert is being issued. The system offers multiple alternative ways of detecting airing events including time series anomaly discovery algorithms with grammar-based compression.

Abstract: A protector for pants bottoms that serves to protect the pants bottoms from being wetted by rain, is formed of a generally tubular body having a smaller cross-section at a side adjacent a bottom opening and a wider cross-section side adjacent at its top opening. An attachment mechanism allows attaching the pants protector to one side of the pants, adjacent the knee of the wearer, and the protector is constructed to have the appearance and look of a pants bottom portion, mimicking the pants itself, from an area at the bottom of the pants to at least approximately the knee location. Thereby, during rain, upon donning a pair of the pants protectors, the bottom of the pants is protected from driving rains and one who appears at a formal event is able to remove the protectors and be left with spotless pants.

Abstract: A helmet includes a fit adjustment system that is operable to adjust a fit of the helmet about a user's head. The fit adjustment system includes a base member, a tightening mechanism, a tension member, and a plurality of guide members that are attached to an interior of the helmet. The guide members guide the tension member about a path within the interior of the helmet and define a gap within which the user's head is positioned when the helmet is positioned about the user's head. Operation of the tightening mechanism tensions the tension member, which reduces the gap defined by the tension member's path and causes one or more components of the fit adjustment system's components to constrict about the user's head.

Abstract: A bicycle helmet for protecting the head of a wearer includes an outer shell and an energy dissipating inner layer coupled to the outer shell. The inner layer defines an inner surface, and front attachment locations are inwardly offset from the inner surface substantially at a frontal portion of the helmet. Rear attachment locations are inwardly offset from the inner surface substantially at a rear portion of the helmet. An internal ventilation system is supported by the front attachment locations and the rear attachment locations. The internal ventilation system is configured for direct engagement with the head of the wearer for supporting the helmet upon the head of the wearer. The internal ventilation system provides a gap between the head of the wearer and the inner surface. The gap allows ventilating air to flow over a substantial extent of the wearer's head and within the helmet.

Abstract: Electrically conductive vulcanised epoxidised natural rubber [ENR]-carbon black blends can be produced by using either internal mechanical mixing method or open milling method. These two methods are commercially friendly due to their practicability and high production rate. The addition of vulcanisation system, either sulfur or peroxide type does not affect the electrical properties of the vulcanised blends. All vulcanized blends prepared in this innovation show useful electrical properties with electrical volume resistances as low as the order of 101 ohms. All these vulcanised blends also exhibit good mechanical properties with tensile strengths up to 26.0 MPa and Dunlop rebound resiliencies of 14.0% (i.e. high damping property). The black colour level of all these vulcanised blends is adjustable. As a result of good electrical and mechanical properties (especially high damping property), they have good potential to be used for antistatic footwear manufacturing and application.
