  • Patent number: 5413036
Abstract: A roll press with two press rolls which together form a press gap and whose axes are situated in a press plane. A journal is disposed on the ends of each roll, with pillow blocks for receiving the journals, with a rack for supporting the pillow blocks, and with tie rods which are arranged on both sides of the press plane and at least approximately parallel to it. Cradles are provided which support the pillow blocks. • Patent number: 5400708
Abstract: A roll assembly comprising a rotatable roll (1 in FIG. 2) and a second roll (2 in FIG. 2) cooperating therewith, in which a pressing element (17) to effect displacement between the rolls along a pressure plane of the roll assembly is located in one of the rolls (1,2) and in which both rolls are supported at either end by respective support members (5,6). Prior to operation of the roll assembly, dumbbell-like shaped connecting parts (7) installed in corresponding cut-outs (9) in the support members (5,6) are tensioned and thereby securely form-locked by actuating the pressing element (17). Locking action is released by subsequent deactivation of the pressing element (17) after which the connecting parts (7) can be withdrawn. Two principal advantages of this arrangement, are the compacter construction, enabled by the fact that the frame no longer bears the pressing forces of the roll assembly, and the ease and speed with which components such as rolls, roll jackets or felt belts can be changed.

  • Patent number: 5385309
Abstract: A wood chip cracking device for use in papermaking employs closely spaced, oppositely rotating rolls which have pyramid-shaped projections on the roll surfaces. This chip destructuring apparatus is rendered readily serviceable with minimal downtime by constructing the roll surface of removable segments which are bolted to a central rotatable shaft. The segments are sized so they can be lifted by a service man. As damage to the roll surface, such as by exposure to tramp metal, is typically limited to a single segment, service and repair of the roll is expedited by permitting removal of a single damaged segment without removing the remaining undamaged segments. Each sector is bored for twelve bolts and is affixed to the central axis by twelve recessed bolts. The surface segments allow the surface to be replaced without removing the rolls from the frame of the wood chip cracking device.

Abstract: Method and apparatus for the finishing of a fiber web (W) by means of an on-machine calender connected to a paper machine or the like. The calendering apparatus includes a first hard roll (1) and a second hard roll (2) which is at a distance from the first one, and at substantially the same horizontal level, and in addition at least two elastic rolls (3,4,5) mounted on bearings borne by movable support (9,10,11,12). The elastic rolls (3,5) define in a working position calendering nips with the hard rolls (1,2). A number of paper guiding rolls (6,7,8,9,10,11) lead the course (W.sub.in .fwdarw.W.sub.out) of the web (W) through the calendering nips. The elastic rolls (3,4,5) have been arranged with respect to the hard rolls (1,2) so that the calendering nips (N.sub.1, N.sub.10, N.sub.11,N.sub.2, N.sub.20, N.sub.21) can be defined against the upper quadrant of the hard rolls (1,2) at substantially the same horizontal level with each other.

  • Patent number: 4889049
Abstract: An improved wringer device is provided for squeezing water from a cloth or chamois when fed between a pair of adjacent rollers. Each roller is made from thermoformed plastic, or molded elastomeric material with an outer surface defining a plurality of axially aligned curvilinear hill and valley surfaces. The hill surface of one roller meshes with a valley surface of the adjacent roller to assist in feeding the cloth through the rollers and to maximize efficiency by minimizing required cranking force. The device includes a first support member for mounting to a wall, a second roller support member selectably connected to the first member, and a third roller support member fixedly secured to the second member, a pair of rollers with substantially parallel axes and each supported between the second and third support members, and a crank interconnected with one of the rollers to drive that roller, which then drives the other roller.

  • Patent number: 4888096
Abstract: A paper machine includes a press section in which the paper web is carried along between a pair of paper machine felts. A dewatering apparatus is included in the press section which consists of a pair of opposed press rollers, one on either side of the felts, with the rollers forming a nip. The rolls are pressed toward each other to compress the felts and the paper web to the maximum mechanical compression. Compressed air is passed through one roller at the nip to the other roller which includes an exhaust device for draining the water blown through by the compressed air. The air is passed under pressure at the nip to evacuate water from the pores of the compressed felts and web. When the paper advances from the nip into an environment at atmospheric pressure, the paper web is substantially free of water.

  • Patent number: 4884386
Abstract: A system for recovering, selecting and recycling empty containers returned after use which includes two specific sequences. In the first sequence, a container (4) passes a door (2) to remove material of a different type, while the accepted product activates a microswitch (9) for counting and activating a warming device to blow in hot air onto the same material which is thus softened; the container is then pushed between a motor driven heated pressing roll (18) with tension supplied by sliding contacts (22) to carry out a compact and permanent pressing by using pressing-welding points and another inertia roller (19). Knives (24) cooperate with the two rollers to ensure the separation. In the second sequence or selection phase, recovered bodies (29), are applied from hopper (30) and fall onto a feeding system with vibrating canals, to maintain the containers individually; photocells (34) check that no superpositions occur.
