With Transversely Displaceable Piston Or Movable Platen Patents (Class 100/226)
  • Patent number: 4056053
Abstract: A compactor, particularly for garbage, especially for use in homes and apartment houses, comprising a tubular receptacle having at its top a pressure plate adapted to occupy a position at the upper end of the tubular receptacle, in which position the pressure plate forms a cover for the receptacle and from this position the plate is reciprocably movable into the receptacle, and a position removed from the receptacle, so that the upper end of the receptacle is uncovered, and means for pivoting the receptacle clear of a bottom plate so that compacted matter accumulated in the receptacle can be pressed out by means of the pressure plate through the lower end of the receptacle into a bag disposed over said lower end.

  • Patent number: 4002115
Abstract: This invention pertains to a baling press incorporating a press box defining two side-by-side bale pressing chambers and a single press platen selectively, vertically, reciprocatingly operative in the upper portions of said two chambers, and a pair of doors in the front wall of the press box, hingedly operable in horizontal swinging movements for access into the respective bale pressing chambers. A hydraulic ram assembly, operatingly connected to the platen, is mounted atop a carriage which is manually movable along track means fixed atop the press box for selective alignment with either of the bale pressing chambers. Electric interlock means are provided to prevent operation of the ram unless both doors are completely closed and the platen is perfectly aligned vertically with one of the bale pressing chambers.

  • Patent number: 3986447
Abstract: An improved padding press for holding under pressure a plurality of sheets of paper and cardboard backers while the backs are being glued together to form individual pads, providing a support rack, a pressing mechanism and a plurality of insertable padding racks which enable said support rack and pressing mechanism to be utilized continuously in the padding process. While pads in one insertable padding rack are being glued and dried, another batch can be aligned and pressed in another insertable padding rack.

  • Patent number: 3977155
Abstract: Apparatus automatically stacks and compresses a preselected number of batts of compressible material, such as fiberglass insulation, and then loads each compressed stack of batts into a sleeve wrapper or bag. When the apparatus is started up it is preferable to initially accumulate a stack of batts in the apparatus prior to changing the apparatus to an automatic mode of operation.

  • Patent number: 3961572
Abstract: A method and apparatus are disclosed for temporarily storing cotton after harvesting by forming the cotton into modules. The apparatus includes a box frame which is open at the top and bottom and has a door at one end thereof. The apparatus includes a carriage which is mounted for movement longitudinally along the top of the frame. A tramper footing is mounted for vertical movement with respect to the carriage, which tramper compresses the cotton within the frame to form the cotton module. The tramper is powered by means of a hydraulic piston and cylinder arrangement wherein the piston and cylinder arrangement can be retracted into the frame when the frame is transported from one place to another. A hydraulic system is provided for controlling both the displacement and the rate of displacement of the tramper during the cotton compacting process.

  • Patent number: 3960636
Abstract: A method and apparatus for the production of improved heat seals in thermoplastic materials which includes causing displacement of thermoplastic material in the area being sealed during the sealing operation. The displaced thermoplastic serves to reinforce that area of the seal which is normally weakened as a result of the heat sealing step.

  • Patent number: 3955492
Abstract: A baler comprises a container with an upper open end, a lid hinged on a rear upper edge of the container and a platen mounted on the lid for compressing the material to be baled. The platen slides up and down through a hole in the lid, and hydraulic rams are used for lowering and raising the platen and for lifting and lowering the lid together with the platen. The container has an upper front door which is hinged at its lower end on a horizontal axis and there is a linkage between the lid and the door so that when the lid and platen are pivoted upwardly and rearwardly, the door pivots downwardly and forwardly, with the result that a hopper mouth of large area is formed into which the material to be baled can be placed.

  • Patent number: 3941047
Abstract: The cotton module builder comprises a mobile, open-bottomed rectangular frame structure into which field cotton can be deposited. A compacting mechanism is mounted at the open top of the frame structure in order to compress the cotton therein into a compact, self-supporting stack (or module) which can be left in the field when the module builder is moved to a new location. The stack can then be picked up later and transported to a cotton gin.An improved side frame structure for the module builder increases the structural rigidity thereof and includes a continuous side wall beam of triangular cross sectional configuration interconnecting the side wall struts. This beam provides high torsional resistance and minimizes the horizontal deflections at the base of the vehicle, especially when the rear door of the module builder is open as when the stack or module of cotton is being deposited in the field.

  • Patent number: 3941046
Abstract: A vertically extending framework having a hydraulic ram subassembly mounted in the framework for pivotation about a horizontal axis, and spaced from the lower end of the framework to accommodate a refuse receptacle within the framework under the ram. A disinfectant injection pump is mounted in the hydraulic ram for automatically discharging a disinfectant into refuse compressed by the ram. The ram is double acting, and valve means is provided for automatically retracting the ram when a predetermined force opposes the outward extension of the piston of the ram.

  • Patent number: 3933571
Abstract: The specification and drawings disclose a method and apparatus of forming foam plastic envelopes by simultaneously engaging two juxtaposed sheets of foam plastic with at least three pairs of opposed jaw members positioned to fully define three marginal edges of an envelope. As shown, the jaw members are positioned in a generally U-shaped pattern so that each pair of jaws completely defines a separate marginal edge. The preferred apparatus of the invention includes first and second opposed platens mounted for movement between a first position in which they are spaced a substantial distance apart and a second position wherein they are relatively closely spaced. Each platen carries at least three jaws including two elongated, spaced, side-by-side jaws and one intermediate jaw which extends transversely between the side-by-side jaws.
